1972 was not the best of years for Chevrolet and its pony car. The 1972 Chevrolet Camaro suffered a few setbacks as the result of a 174-day strike at a plant in Ohio where the Camaros were built. In addition, approximately 1100 Camaros had to be junked when they did not achieve the 1972 Federal Bumper Standards. The entire model was almost scrapped along with the 1100 useless cars. However, Camaro did make a big comeback by the end of the year, rolling 68,656 Camaros out of its plant. Of these cars, 6,562 were SS's, and represented the last of their kind. There would be no more Camaro SS's produced by Chevy.
