I bought the SLK because I'd become addicted to performance but also missed the convertible aspect. It replaced a Nissan Skyline GTR so it was never going to have an easy task. I was surprised that, when I started to get used to the incredibly sophisticated auto-box, it was so bloody fast and competent. Despite having slightly less power than the 400BHP Skyline it is much better poised and the torque levels are awesome (a big trait of 'V' engines). It also carries a wonderful level of class, despite its brutal power, which allows it to hold its own in a "posh" hotel's carpark but also scare other drivers at a track day. Oh, it also has a 4.5 star NCAP rating (for the safety conscious out there!). As for mine, I finally had it modified to 380BHP but frankly the standard car is all you should really need (at 354BHP); mine only went to that power as I got a bit carried away at a tuning shop! :-) I'll wrap it up with two stats on the standard car: 0-60 - 4.9/5.0 according to MB (most magazines have got 4.6 out of it) 155mph (limited)

There are problems with the K 40 locking computer and the top closing mech. if not cycled about once every 1-2 weeks. has no bluetooth or usb port.

This car drives well and shifts smoothly with firm and predictable brakes. The top operates flawlessly and the remote control for the top is a cool feature. The sound system with CD changer sounds good and there are quite a few storage areas within the interior. The trunk is bigger than most other convertibles out there.

Best, and fastest, car I've ever owned and I don't intend to ever let it go. I told my wife she could bury me in it and save the cost of a casket! And, for the performance (0-60 in 4.5; quarter in 13 flat at 110), it was an incredible bargain at 58k when new. I think MB made a mistake when they priced it. It's still faster than most everything on the road, even though the other manufacturers, including MB, have had 7 years to come up with something better. AND I get 18-20 mpg around town even though I constantly hit it hard.

This is a great sporty convertible suitable for everyday driving. - This car drives well and shifts smoothly with firm and predictable brakes.
