Continuing to refine and update, the 2008 Infiniti M35 tweaks its appearance and adds a few more standard features in its attempt to rival such luxury sedan mainstays as the BMW 5-Series and Mercedes Benz E Class. For 2008, this rear-wheel drive sedan drops its Sport trim, replacing it with a Sport Package. It offers the same features, such as a sports suspension, 19-inch alloy wheels, and rear active steering. Base and AWD trims come with a 3.5-liter, 275-hp V6 and 5-speed shiftable automatic. The powertrain rates 16/23 mpg. Base models start with full power features, 10-way power front seats, leather upholstery, a sunroof, and 6-CD/MP3 player with satellite radio. Owners love the intuitive and easy-to-sue touchscreen driver information center as well as the optional voice-activated navigation system with 3D graphics. The 2008 Infiniti M35 adds heated and cooled seats this year. Though defaulting to rear-wheel drive, the AWD system automatically kicks in to distribute torque where needed according to road conditions. Its extra weight reduces fuel economy slightly. ABS brakes, traction and stability control, and dual front-side and side curtain airbags for all rows are standard. For 2008, the M35 adds xenon headlights. A new option this year is the Lane Departure Prevention System, which warns drivers when they start to drift. This joins an optional rearview monitor in providing maximum driver protection. Other updates for 2008 include styling changes to the front and rear fascia, taillights, and grille, giving the sedan a sportier look overall. Infiniti's combination of luxury and performance seems to be doing something right, as owners have very few negative comments about the sedan. Handling and acceleration get high marks, as does the roomy interior and spacious 15 cubic foot trunk. The highest compliment goes to the navigation system. Low marks go to a rough ride with the Sport suspension, a small trunk opening, and a desire for even more horsepower.
