Is the 2014 Honda Odyssey reliable?

The expert driving notes reinforce that sense of confidence by describing the Odyssey as composed, responsive, and capable in a wide range of driving situations. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that some examples may show the wear that comes with family-hauler duty, so condition matters a lot.

What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Honda Odyssey?

At 56.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the van has seen heavy family use. Focus on signs of wear in the cabin, sliding-door operation, and any evidence of past collision repair. Because this model is often bought for daily family duty, condition can vary a lot from one listing to the next.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The LX is the most affordable trim, while higher trims add features such as triple-zone automatic climate control, power sliding side doors, keyless access with push-button start, leather upholstery, heated front seats, a power sunroof, a power tailgate, navigation, rear-seat entertainment, bigger wheels, fog lights, parking sensors, blind spot monitoring, and HondaVAC. The base trim leaves out many of those convenience and luxury upgrades.
• Powertrain: All trims use a 248-hp, 3.5-liter V6 with a 6-speed automatic transmission and Variable Cylinder Management. The setup is tuned for responsive everyday driving and better fuel economy, with the van expected to return 19 mpg city and 28 mpg highway.
• Safety package: Honda’s safety suite includes ACE II body structure, SmartVent side-impact airbags, a reversing camera, an expanded-view driver’s side mirror, LaneWatch, Forward Collision Warning, and Lane Departure Warning. The Touring Elite adds Blind Spot Information System.
• Infotainment: The LX includes Bluetooth calling and music streaming, hands-free text messaging, Pandora Internet radio, and a USB port. Higher trims add a touchscreen audio system, HondaLink connectivity, navigation, rear-seat entertainment, an ultrawide rear screen with HDMI technology, HD Radio, and a premium Surround Sound audio system.
• Fuel efficiency: The Odyssey is expected to get 19 mpg in the city and 28 on the highway, and the expert review notes a combined estimate of 22 mpg.

Which 2014 Honda Odyssey trim should I buy?

The 2014 Honda Odyssey is offered in 5 trim levels: LX, EX, EX-L, Touring, Touring Elite.

Here's the short version:

• LX: This is the value play if you want the lowest entry price and still want core tech like Bluetooth, text messaging, Pandora, and a USB port. It makes the most sense if you care more about the Odyssey’s space and fundamentals than extra comfort features.
• EX: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds a strong mix of convenience upgrades, including triple-zone climate control, power sliding doors, push-button start, HondaLink, and a touchscreen audio system.
• EX-L: Choose this if you want a more upscale family hauler, since it adds leather, heated front seats, a sunroof, a power tailgate, and advanced driver warnings. It also lets you choose either navigation or rear-seat entertainment.
• Touring: This is the right pick if you want both navigation and rear-seat entertainment together, plus bigger wheels, fog lights, parking sensors, memory settings, and third-row sunshades.
• Touring Elite: This is the top choice if you want the most equipment, including the ultrawide rear entertainment screen, premium audio, HD Radio, HID headlights, blind spot monitoring, and HondaVAC.

The Touring Elite’s Blind Spot Information System is a notable safety upgrade over lower trims.

• Deal availability: 31.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,229 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.27% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 56.2% of listings are accident-free.

What is the 2014 Honda Odyssey's resale value?

The current average of $10,804 sits slightly below last year's $11,527.

That decline suggests the market has softened, which can be good news if you are buying now but less favorable if you plan to sell soon. A lower current price can also mean future resale gains may be more limited unless the van is especially clean, well maintained, and well equipped.

Because the Odyssey still has strong owner satisfaction and broad family appeal, well-kept examples should remain easier to move than neglected ones. Trim, condition, and accident history will matter a lot when it comes time to resell.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.45/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2014 Honda Odyssey safe?

It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

Honda’s safety package includes ACE II body structure, SmartVent side-impact airbags, a reversing camera, an expanded-view driver’s side mirror, LaneWatch, Forward Collision Warning, and Lane Departure Warning. The Touring Elite trim adds Blind Spot Information System.

Should I buy a 2014 Honda Odyssey or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2014 if:

• 31.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 56.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 6.27% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.45/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• The 2014 brings a strong safety package and a Top Safety Pick+ result.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $12,485, the 2015 costs more than the current year's $10,804 average.
• It adds more design flair and a stronger style-first presentation.

The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2014 is the smarter buy because prices are softer and the safety and ownership appeal remain strong. If you are willing to pay more for a newer model with a bit more visual polish, the 2015 is the secondary path to consider.
