Overview

We're used to getting more bang with every buck spent at Hyundai, but a new engine under the Elantra GT's smiling hood shifts that bang for 2014. You'll find another 25 ponies and 23 pound-feet of twist in this second-year compact hatch, promising to make its drivers smile behind the wheel of the best weight-to-power ratio in its segment. The new engine is the only significant change for 2014, but it should also take care of the only significant complaints of its debut year.
Good for a total of 173 hp and 154 lb-ft of torque, the estimated (and reportedly more accurate) 24 mpg city/34 highway economy out of this new 2-liter is technically an improvement over the 2013's 1.8-liter if you go by drivers' real-world accounts, though that smaller engine's estimate was advertised at 28/38. The optional 6-speed shiftable automatic drops that highway figure just a touch, but both it and the 6-speed manual transmission are still available this year.
The 2013 setup achieved 60 mph from a standstill in a class-average 9 seconds, and the 2014 shouldn't be significantly different except in terms of overall feel. Low-slung power bands like the programming of this engine (torque increases beginning at 4,000 rpm, peak torque achieved at 4,700 rpm) tend to deliver a rather gratifying launch sensation that make a half-second improvement feel like a world of difference—and might even help lead-footed drivers sip on the fuel tank, instead of chugging.
Generally speaking, folks looking for anything with a GT in the name expect a certain go power, and this Elantra GT promises to finally offer that plus 51 cubic feet for cargo, good looks, luxurious accommodations and excellent usability for tall types above and beyond the kitchen-sink standard features list so typical of Hyundai. The rare lemon on handling aside, that power and economy mix was the only significant downside consistently reported by early drivers.
Otherwise the 2013 Elantra GT was generally touted as exceptionally comfortable with very well-placed conveniences like the map light, USB port and underfloor compartment. Other things were perhaps not so well thought out, like the lack of hooks for bungee chords to hold down the hatch if you're hauling really large items. Some drivers mention a rougher ride than they would like and other concerns meriting a very thorough test drive if you're particular about things like steering, night visibility, or fully-closing panels over insurance devices installed in the OBD II port.

There are so many things to like about this car.........10yr/100k mi warranty, eager motor, good handling with 3 different driver modes to chose from, panoramic moonroof, easy to use navigation, good gas mileage and holds its value better than almost every car in its segment

This car came fully loaded and the owner took great care of it. It is great on gas and cheap on insurance. If you are looking for a safe car for a teen or older driver who needs a smaller car, this is perfect. I highly recommend this car for those looking for a first car or a downsize to be more practical.

The car is a good balance between practicality and performance (with the 6sp manual). The cargo and cabin space is roomy and versatile. Hyundai still seems to offer more value than its competition based on my experience.

How much does the 2014 Hyundai Elantra GT cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $7,673 |
| Year-Round Low | $7,248 |
| Year-Round High | $8,051 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $7,756 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −1.07% |
Prices have softened 1.07% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 198 listings available, which gives you a modest amount of inventory to compare before you buy.
Is the 2014 Hyundai Elantra GT a good car?
Yes — the 2014 Hyundai Elantra GT earns a 4.75/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. Drivers commonly praise its practical balance of performance and space, along with excellent gas mileage, a roomy interior, and versatile cargo space. With 33.8% of listings marked as good or great deals, you still have room to shop selectively.
Is the 2014 Hyundai Elantra GT reliable?
Owners rate it 4.75/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
Reviewers describe it as reliable and practical, and the feedback also points to a dependable ownership experience with good gas mileage and everyday usability. For used buyers, that suggests the bigger risk is less about the model’s basic appeal and more about finding a well-kept example with consistent maintenance.
What should I look for when buying a used 2014 Hyundai Elantra GT?
At 60.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should run a vehicle history report before you commit, then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection if the listing has any accident or repair history. Focus on overall condition, maintenance records, and signs of wear that could affect long-term ownership costs.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2014 Hyundai Elantra GT?
This looks like a moderate market for selective shoppers, so you can buy now if the right listing appears.
- Deal availability: 33.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 198 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 1.07% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 60.1% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $7,248, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2014 Hyundai Elantra GT's resale value?
The current average of $7,673 sits slightly below last year's $7,756.
That modest decline suggests the market has softened a bit, which can make the car easier to buy now but may also limit short-term upside if you plan to sell soon. If you keep the car in strong condition and avoid accident history, you should be in a better position to preserve value. Demand should remain supported by the model's strong owner satisfaction.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.75/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2014 Hyundai Elantra GT or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2014 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2014 if:
- 33.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 60.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 1.07% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.75/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
The bottom line: You should focus on the 2014 if you want a well-liked used hatchback with solid owner feedback and a market that still offers some deal opportunities. If you're especially price-sensitive, keep an eye on listings near the low end of the range and be ready to move quickly when you find a clean, well-documented example.
