What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Cadillac CTS?

At 53.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle-history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has higher mileage or visible cosmetic wear. Focus on how the electronics, suspension, and driver-assistance features operate, since this model leans heavily on technology and comfort equipment. If you’re comparing multiple listings, condition and maintenance history should matter as much as trim level.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Luxury trim adds leather seating, a Bose stereo, a navigation system, some safety tech, and 17-inch, 10-spoke wheels. The Performance trim adds magnetic ride control, surround view, parking sensors, 18-inch wheels, and automatic parking assist. The Premium trim adds a fully digital, fully customizable instrument panel, adaptive cruise control, a 20-way power driver’s seat, and carbon-fiber inserts.
• Powertrain: The car offers a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline 4-cylinder with 268 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque, a 3.6-liter V6 with 335 horsepower and 285 lb-ft, and a twin-turbo 3.6-liter V6 in the Vsport with 420 hp and 430 lb-ft. Power goes through an 8-speed automatic to the rear wheels or available all-wheel drive.
• Safety package: A standard driver-awareness package includes blind-spot monitoring, lane-departure warning, rear cross-traffic alerts, and rain-sensing wipers. Standard safety equipment also includes 8 airbags, a backup camera, and a surround-view monitor.
• Infotainment: CUE uses a touchscreen layout with customizable menus, Apple CarPlay, and access to phone, text, music, maps, and apps. The system also includes OnStar and a head-up display on the test vehicle.
• Fuel efficiency: The provided data does not state MPG or MPGe figures.

Which 2016 Cadillac CTS trim should I buy?

The 2016 Cadillac CTS is offered in 4 trim levels: Standard, Luxury, Performance, Premium.

Here's the short version:

• Standard: This is the entry point, and it makes sense if you want the CTS’s core design, engine choices, and luxury-sedan character at the lowest starting price.
• Luxury: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds leather seating, a Bose stereo, navigation, some safety tech, and upgraded wheels without jumping all the way to the top.
• Performance: Choose this if you want the most meaningful chassis and parking upgrades, including magnetic ride control, surround view, parking sensors, and automatic parking assist.
• Premium: This is the right pick if you want the most complete CTS experience, with the digital instrument panel, adaptive cruise control, and the 20-way power driver’s seat.

The standard driver-awareness package includes blind-spot monitoring, lane-departure warning, rear cross-traffic alerts, and rain-sensing wipers.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Cadillac CTS?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly on the right car.

• Deal availability: 29.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 239 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.31% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 53.1% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $13,202, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 Cadillac CTS's resale value?

The current average of $13,202 sits slightly below last year's $13,943.

That price movement suggests the model has softened, which can help you as a buyer but may limit upside if you plan to resell soon. If you buy at the right price and keep the car in strong condition, you can reduce the impact of that depreciation. Well-equipped examples with desirable features should hold more appeal than stripped-down cars.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.88/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2016 Cadillac CTS safe?

The 2016 Cadillac CTS earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

It has a standard driver-awareness package that includes blind-spot monitoring, lane-departure warning, rear cross-traffic alerts, and rain-sensing wipers. Standard safety equipment also includes 8 airbags, a backup camera, and a surround-view monitor. The safety content also highlights the car’s long-ish wheelbase and the usefulness of the surround-view camera when parking in tight spaces.

Should I buy a 2016 Cadillac CTS or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 29.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 53.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 5.31% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.88/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2016 brings a more powerful and more tech-savvy update to the CTS formula.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $12,554, the 2015 costs less than the current year's $13,202 average.
• It gets the fundamentals right and emphasizes driving dynamics.

The bottom line: If you want the better-rounded CTS with stronger tech and a more current feel, the 2016 is the smarter default. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2015 is the value play, especially if you find a clean example with the right equipment.
