CarGurus Analysis: 2016 Chevrolet Camaro
overall

Summary
With 1,231 currently listed for sale and an average price of $23,148.00, 30.6% of 2016 Chevrolet Camaros for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro 4.38 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.33 / 10.
60.1% of 2016 Camaro models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2016 Chevrolet Camaro stands out as a completely redesigned version of a classic American pony car, and it brings a more refined feel than the model it replaced. Chevy also gave it updated looks, a better interior, and the latest infotainment tech, while the car rides on a platform shared with the Cadillac CTS and ATS. That combination helps make the Camaro feel like a fresh take on a familiar name rather than a simple update.
For buyers, the appeal is easy to understand: the Camaro remains a car with strong emotional pull, but this version aims to pair that heritage with more modern polish. Owners also tend to praise its sporty design, smooth ride, powerful performance, advanced technology, and handling capabilities. At the same time, visibility can be a significant issue, especially for taller drivers, and the cabin may feel cramped for those over six feet tall.

All the tech you could need. Better build quality than expected, better ride than expected. Handling and power phenomenal. Car is solid. Cockpit is snug, but comfy. Sips gas, unless you have a lead foot, if you do plan on extra tires!

Amazing performance. Tons of power and handling was very good for such a big coupe. Nice features including a rev matching downshift that worked flawlessly. The interior is okay with some odd placement for the air vents. Plastic was typical GM. The biggest downside is visibility. I couldnt see anything for changing lanes or passing. Wife didnt like the interior at all. The seats were fine for me, but not for my wife.

Is the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro a good car?
Generally — the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro earns 4.38/5 from owners and 7.33/10 from our experts. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel and Technology.
Owners consistently praise the sporty design, smooth ride, powerful performance, advanced technology, and handling. In practical terms, that lines up well if you want a modern muscle car that feels more refined than purely old-school. The Camaro’s complete redesign and its use as a performance coupe make it especially appealing if you care more about driving enjoyment than everyday utility.
The market also shows 27.4% of listings as good or great deals, so you can still find value if you shop carefully.
Is the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro reliable?
Owners rate it 4.38/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.
Owner feedback also points to a car that feels dependable in daily use, with praise for its trouble-free ownership experience, strong performance, and the kind of long-term appeal that helps buyers feel confident. The expert review also frames the Camaro as a fun, effective compromise between performance, efficiency, and practicality, which supports the idea that it can be a solid choice if you maintain it well.
If you’re buying used, the main long-term ownership risk is that a car built for performance can be more sensitive to how it was driven and maintained.
What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Chevrolet Camaro?
At 55.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has been modified or driven hard. Pay close attention to body condition, panel alignment, and signs of prior repair, since accident history can affect both value and long-term ownership confidence. You should also spend extra time evaluating visibility and everyday usability, because those are the Camaro’s most notable practical tradeoffs.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base car is light on comfort and convenience compared with better-equipped versions, while higher trims add features like heated and ventilated front seats, dual-zone climate control, a Bose premium stereo, and the 8-inch MyLink touchscreen.
- Powertrain: You get a turbocharged inline 4-cylinder with 275 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque, a 3.6-liter V6 with 335 horsepower and 284 pound-feet of torque, or a 6.2-liter V8 with 455 horsepower and 455 lb-ft of torque. The turbo four with the 8-speed automatic returns 22 mpg city, 31 highway, 25 combined; the V6 automatic returns 19 mpg city, 28 highway, 23 combined; and the V8 SS with a manual returns 16 mpg city, 25 highway, 19 combined.
- Safety package: Standard equipment includes StabiliTrak stability control, traction control, advanced dual-stage airbags, and a backup camera. The Convenience and Lighting package adds rear park assist, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alerts.
- Infotainment: The Camaro uses an 8-inch MyLink touchscreen, and the system supports Apple CarPlay. The test vehicle also had a head-up display.
- Fuel efficiency: The turbo four with the 8-speed automatic is the most efficient setup at 22 mpg city, 31 highway, 25 combined. The V6 automatic returns 19 mpg city, 28 highway, 23 combined, while the V8 SS with a manual returns 16 mpg city, 25 highway, 19 combined.
Which 2016 Chevrolet Camaro trim should I buy?
The 2016 Chevrolet Camaro is offered in 3 trim levels: 2LT, SS, and 2LT automatic 4-cylinder.
Here's the short version:
- Base trim: The 2LT automatic 4-cylinder is the entry point, but it leaves out some of the comfort and convenience upgrades that make the Camaro easier to live with every day.
- Sweet-spot trim: The 2LT is the best value if you want the Camaro’s stronger everyday balance, since it can bring the V6, the 8-speed automatic, heated and ventilated front seats, dual-zone climate control, a Bose premium stereo, and the 8-inch MyLink touchscreen.
- Premium/top trim: The SS is the performance pick, with the 6.2-liter LT1 V8 and the most serious straight-line pace in the lineup.
The safety package note to keep in mind is that the Convenience and Lighting package adds rear park assist, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alerts.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Chevrolet Camaro?
This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient.
- Deal availability: 27.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,257 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 1.91% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 55.5% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $21,031.40, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro's resale value?
The current average of $23,116 sits slightly below last year's $23,567.
That price movement suggests the Camaro has softened a bit, which can help you buy at a more favorable point in the cycle. For a future seller, that also means your resale outcome will depend heavily on condition, mileage, and how well the car is equipped. Well-kept examples with desirable features should hold attention better than rougher or less desirable ones.
Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.38/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro safe?
It earns a 5/10 safety score from our experts.
The Camaro comes with safety features such as StabiliTrak stability control, traction control, advanced dual-stage airbags, and a standard backup camera. As part of the Convenience and Lighting package, features like rear park assist, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alerts were all featured on our test car.
The main safety caveat is visibility: the Camaro’s styling creates very thick pillars and poor sight lines, which can make everyday driving and parking more difficult. That means you should pay close attention to how comfortable you feel with the outward visibility before you buy.
Should I buy a 2016 Chevrolet Camaro or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2016 if:
- 27.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 55.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 1.91% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.38/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
- The complete redesign brings a fresher cabin, stronger refinement, and better technology.
Consider the 2017 if:
- At $24,587, the 2017 costs more than the current year's $23,116 average.
- It adds the 1LE Track Performance Package and Performance Data Recorder.
The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2016 is the smarter starting point because it combines a lower average price with strong owner satisfaction and a broad range of trims. If you’re willing to pay more for added performance-focused hardware and a newer model-year setup, the 2017 is the better secondary path.
