Is the 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD a good car?

The 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD brings a more modern feel to the heavy-duty segment thanks to available driver-assist features, an available 8-inch digital driver display, and an 8-inch touchscreen. It also adds a larger standard touchscreen and Chevrolet’s MyLink infotainment system for 2016, which helps it feel more current than earlier heavy-duty pickups.

For you, that means this truck makes the most sense if you want serious capability without giving up useful tech. It offers strong towing and payload numbers, multiple cab and bed combinations, and available four-wheel drive, so it can work as a jobsite truck or a more versatile daily driver.

With 25.4% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD reliable?

The 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD is described as having a generally reliable reputation, which supports its appeal as a heavy-duty truck for long-term use. It also combines that reputation with strong capability and useful technology, so you are not giving up practicality to get durability.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that heavy-duty trucks often lead hard lives, so condition and maintenance history matter as much as the badge on the grille.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD?

At 68.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the truck has been used for towing or work duty. Focus on overall condition, signs of wear in the cabin and bed, and whether the truck’s equipment and configuration match the kind of use you plan to put it through.

If you find a listing below $32,351, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD's resale value?

The current average of $32,351 sits slightly below last year's $35,731.

That price movement suggests the truck has softened enough to create a better entry point for you as a buyer, but it also means future resale may depend heavily on condition, mileage, and configuration. If you keep the truck well maintained and avoid overpaying now, you should be in a better position when it comes time to sell.

Should I buy a 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 25.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 68.7% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.46% compared with last year.

The bottom line: The 2016 is a strong choice if you want the updated tech and heavy-duty capability of this generation at a softer price than last year. If you are especially price-sensitive, you may also want to compare nearby years and focus on the cleanest, best-maintained truck rather than chasing the newest badge alone.
