How much does the 2016 Lexus RX cost?

Prices have softened 1.43% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,494 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2016 Lexus RX a good car?

Generally — the 2016 Lexus RX earns a 4.33/5 user rating and a 7.83/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel, Technology, and Safety.

Owners consistently praise its comfort, reliability, and luxury features, especially the smooth ride and loaded interior. The RX’s comfort-first mission and upscale cabin fit buyers who want a relaxed luxury SUV rather than a sporty one. The main trade-offs are sluggish performance and a design that may not appeal to everyone.

With 37.4% of listings marked as good or great deals, there’s still room to find strong value if you shop carefully.

Is the 2016 Lexus RX reliable?

Owners rate it 4.33/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to reliability, comfort, and a trouble-free ownership experience, with drivers especially appreciating how dependable and long-term friendly it feels. The expert evaluation also describes it as more reliable than many German competitors and emphasizes that Lexus buyers tend to value that reputation. The RX’s regular-gas requirement and strong value proposition add to its appeal for everyday ownership.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that some listings may have higher mileage or transmission-related concerns, so a careful test drive and service-history review matter.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Lexus RX?

At 53.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and confirm whether any prior damage was repaired properly. A pre-purchase inspection is worth prioritizing, especially if you’re comparing multiple listings with similar prices. Focus on overall condition, service records, and whether the cabin electronics and drivetrain behave as expected on a test drive.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The RX 350 AWD test vehicle shows the model’s upscale materials, dramatic styling, and available comfort features, while the base setup still emphasizes luxury over performance.
• Powertrain: A 3.5-liter V6 with 295 horsepower and 267 pound-feet of torque comes standard with an 8-speed automatic; the hybrid RX 450h uses the same basic V6 with electric motors and a CVT for 308 horsepower total.
• Safety package: Lexus Safety System + includes forward-collision alert with auto-braking, pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, and adaptive cruise control with lane-keeping assist; blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is also available.
• Infotainment: The RX includes navigation, voice directions, live traffic and weather, Bluetooth streaming, HD Radio, two USB ports, and telematics; the system also supports Lexus Safety System + when equipped.
• Fuel efficiency: The RX 350 AWD is rated at 19 mpg city and 26 mpg highway, and it averaged about 22 mpg in testing.

Which 2016 Lexus RX trim should I buy?

The 2016 Lexus RX is offered in 2 trim levels: RX 350 AWD, RX 450h F-Sport AWD.

Here's the short version:

• RX 350 AWD: This is the core RX experience, pairing the standard V6 with the comfort-first ride, rich cabin materials, and the broad appeal that makes the model easy to recommend. It’s the best-value choice if you want the RX’s main strengths without chasing extra performance or hybrid complexity.
• RX 450h F-Sport AWD: This trim adds the hybrid powertrain and F-Sport character, making it the pick if you want the most equipment and a more distinctive setup. It suits you best if efficiency and a sportier presentation matter more than keeping costs down.

Lexus Safety System + is the key safety package to look for, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert is a useful extra if the listing has it.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Lexus RX?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory and deal activity to make comparison shopping worthwhile.

• Deal availability: 37.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,494 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 1.43% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 53.2% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $21,779, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 Lexus RX's resale value?

The current average of $22,107 sits slightly below last year's $22,428.

That softer pricing suggests the RX is holding value reasonably well, but not aggressively appreciating. For a future seller, that means you should expect steady demand rather than a big upside from short-term ownership. The model’s comfort, luxury appeal, and broad popularity help support used-market interest, especially when the vehicle is well maintained and cleanly presented.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.33/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2016 Lexus RX safe?

The 2016 Lexus RX earns a Top Safety Pick+ rating from the IIHS.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Lexus Safety System + includes forward-collision alert with auto-braking, pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, and adaptive cruise control with lane-keeping assist. The RX also offers blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, and it comes with standard rear-side airbags. The main caveat is that some driver-assist features are optional rather than standard on every listing, so you should confirm equipment before you buy.

Should I buy a 2016 Lexus RX or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 37.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 53.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 1.43% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.33/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• The 2016 redesign brings a bolder look, a quieter cabin, and strong safety credentials.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $17,255, the 2015 costs less than the current year's $22,107 average.
• It’s a quieter, dependable, value-focused RX with plenty of cargo space.

Consider the 2017 if:

• At $23,906, the 2017 costs more than the current year's $22,107 average.
• It adds more standard equipment and broader safety-package availability.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, comfort, and modern safety, the 2016 is the sweet spot. If your budget is tighter, the 2015 is the value play; if you want more standard equipment and can spend more, the 2017 is the upgrade path.
