What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Toyota Sienna?

At 53.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the van has higher mileage or visible wear. Focus on body condition, interior condition, and how well the features work, since this model’s appeal depends heavily on equipment and family usability.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base L trim already includes automatic headlights, windshield-wiper heaters, tri-zone automatic climate control, a rear-view camera, Siri Eyes Free, and 17-inch alloys, while the LE adds heated side mirrors, power-sliding doors, an 8-way power driver’s seat, a larger touchscreen, and upgraded audio. The SE brings a stiffer suspension, 19-inch wheels, leather upholstery, heated front seats, and sportier exterior details, while the XLE and Limited move further upmarket with more comfort and convenience features.
• Powertrain: Every Sienna uses a 3.5-liter V6 with a 6-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel-drive versions are rated at 18 mpg city and 25 mpg highway, while AWD versions drop to 16 mpg city and 23 mpg highway.
• Safety package: The available driver-assistance suite includes blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise, and forward-collision warning. Some features are tied to packages or specific trims, and the Advanced Technology package is offered for front-wheel-drive Siennas.
• Infotainment: Base models use a 6.1-inch touchscreen, while higher trims move to a 7.0-inch screen and enhanced connectivity. Siri Eyes Free is standard, and the rear entertainment system with Driver Easy Speak is a standout family feature.
• Fuel efficiency: Front-wheel-drive models return 18 mpg city and 25 mpg highway, with a combined 21 mpg. AWD models return 16 mpg city and 23 mpg highway, with a combined 19 mpg.

Which 2016 Toyota Sienna trim should I buy?

The 2016 Toyota Sienna is offered in 6 trim levels: L, LE, SE, SE Premium, XLE, and Limited.

Here's the short version:

• L: This is the value play if you want the essentials without giving up the Sienna’s core strengths. You still get a long feature list, including tri-zone climate control, a rear-view camera, Siri Eyes Free, and 17-inch alloys.
• LE: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds power-sliding doors, an upgraded stereo, a larger touchscreen, and useful family-friendly convenience features without jumping too far in price.
• SE: Choose this if you want the sportier suspension tuning, leather upholstery, heated front seats, and a more distinctive look. It’s the trim to consider if ride feel matters to you.
• SE Premium: This is the upgrade if you want the SE’s chassis tuning plus more luxury and family tech, including blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, rear-seat entertainment, and navigation.
• XLE: This is the comfort-focused choice if you want to skip the SE’s sportier setup and get a more traditional family-minivan feel with added convenience and upscale touches.
• Limited: This is the top-end pick if you want the most premium cabin experience, including leather, navigation, parking sensors, a heated steering wheel, and a JBL audio system.

The safety-package trims are worth a close look because some driver-assistance features are bundled rather than standard across the lineup.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Toyota Sienna?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop with some leverage if you compare listings carefully.

• Deal availability: 31.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,330 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.76% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 53.4% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $16,191, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 Toyota Sienna's resale value?

The current average of $17,488 sits slightly below last year's $17,985.

That softer pricing suggests the market has become a bit more favorable for buyers, but it also means future sellers may need to price competitively to stand out. The year-round range shows that values can move meaningfully depending on condition, mileage, and equipment, so well-kept examples should still have an edge.

Because this model has strong owner satisfaction, demand should remain healthy for clean, well-maintained vans. That helps support resale value over time, especially for examples with desirable features and a clean history.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2016 Toyota Sienna safe?

The 2016 Toyota Sienna earns top overall scores from both IIHS and NHTSA, though NHTSA gave it four-star ratings in frontal crash and five-star ratings in all other tests.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

The available driver-assistance suite includes blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise, and forward-collision warning. Some of those features are tied to packages or higher trims, so you should confirm exactly what a specific listing includes.

The main caveat is that the frontal crash result is a step below the top score, so you should pay attention to the exact safety equipment on the van you’re considering.

Should I buy a 2016 Toyota Sienna or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 31.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 53.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.76% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2016 stands out for its Siri Eyes Free upgrade, which adds useful voice control and a bit of safety for iPhone users.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $15,419, the 2015 costs less than the current year's $17,488 average.
• The 2015 is a notably improved version with broad upgrades and stronger safety.

The bottom line: If you want the better-equipped, tech-forward choice, the 2016 is the stronger pick. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2015 is the value alternative worth a close look, especially if you find one in excellent condition.
