How much does the 2016 Volkswagen Beetle cost?

Prices are up 7.51% year-over-year — a sign of continued demand for this model year.

There are 289 listings available, which gives you a modest amount of inventory to compare before you buy.

Is the 2016 Volkswagen Beetle a good car?

Yes — 4.5/5 is a strong user rating for this model year. The 2016 Volkswagen Beetle stands out for blending retro style with modern hardware, while also offering a roomier interior and more trunk space than earlier versions. It still isn’t especially practical compared with many rivals, but it does deliver a premium-feeling cabin and a distinctive personality that many shoppers will value.

With 32.2% of listings marked as good or great deals, you still have a meaningful chance to find a competitive listing.

Is the 2016 Volkswagen Beetle reliable?

Owners rate it 4.5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The 2016 Volkswagen Beetle does not have a standout reliability record, and the overview points to potential issues with engines and timing chains. For used buyers, that means long-term ownership risk is worth taking seriously, especially if maintenance history is incomplete.

What should I look for when buying a used 2016 Volkswagen Beetle?

At 50.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and confirm whether any prior damage was repaired properly. Put inspection priority on the engine, timing-chain-related concerns, and overall mechanical condition. Because this car’s appeal depends heavily on how well it has been maintained, condition matters more than mileage alone.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2016 Volkswagen Beetle?

This looks like a moderate market, so you can be selective without expecting a deep bargain on every listing.

• Deal availability: 32.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 289 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices are up 7.51% year-over-year.
• Clean inventory: 50.5% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $13,992, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2016 Volkswagen Beetle's resale value?

The current average of $15,809 sits slightly above last year's $14,704.

That price movement suggests the Beetle has held buyer interest well enough to support values, even as it remains a niche choice. If you buy carefully and keep the car in strong condition, you should have a better chance of preserving value when it is time to sell. The model’s distinctive styling and premium-feeling cabin can help it stand out in the used market.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2016 Volkswagen Beetle or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2016 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2016 if:

• 32.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 50.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices are up 7.51% year-over-year.
• Owners rate it 4.5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2015 if:

• At $13,429, the 2015 costs less than the current year's $15,809 average.
• It offers three engine choices, including a more efficient diesel.

The bottom line: If you want the stronger current-market benchmark and are comfortable paying more for the 2016’s mix of style and substance, that is the cleaner primary path. If your priority is lower entry cost, the 2015 is the better secondary path, especially if you want to spend less up front and still get Beetle character.
