Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport 4.75 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it an 8.5 / 10.

Why it stands out
The 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport stands out as a well-rounded midsize SUV that combines good looks, a comfortable interior, a roomy cargo area, and an affordable price. It is also described as safe, technologically advanced, quick, and built in the U.S.A., which gives it a broader appeal than its value-focused positioning might suggest.
That mix makes it easy to see why it would attract shoppers who want practicality without giving up comfort or features. The available third-row-seat and extra-cargo-space solution mentioned in the source also points to a broader Santa Fe lineup for buyers who need more room than the Sport provides. At the same time, the emphasis on the Sport’s cargo space and comfort suggests its strengths are in everyday usability rather than maximum passenger or hauling capacity.

Great turning radius, good visibility, and easy to drive. I shoveled the car out of 3+ feet of snow and it started right up! Got my family out of the extreme weather comfortably and safely.

Love this car. It has everything you could want. It dries very comfortably and smooth, the breaking is awesome, and the surround camera view is such a helper. The Seats in the back lay down almost completely flat, provide a great space to pack or go camping, and the storage compartments in the trunk are perfect. Everything fits like a puzzle that’s easy to solve.

OMG, I am in love with my new car. I have luxury features I didnt even know I needed; a heated steering wheel is an absolute necessity at this point. I love the luxury features in this mid size family SUV, heated and cooled seats, with read heated seats that are also adjustable; my kids love to recline. Apple and Android car play Hyundai did not discriminate. Panoramic moonroof, 360 camera, the navigation view appears as an actual map, and the ride is so incredible smooth I love to drive this baby in sport. There is so much to say about this vehicle great buy.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport?
At 60.5% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle-history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually attractive. Focus on condition details that matter in a family SUV: interior wear, cargo-area use, and whether the features you want are actually present and working.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The Santa Fe Sport is a 2-row, 5-passenger crossover SUV, and the base version uses a 185-horsepower, 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine. Upgrading brings the turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder, and the higher-spec test vehicle described in the source adds a more upscale equipment mix, including the 8-inch navigation screen and premium audio.
- Powertrain: You can choose between a 4-cylinder and a turbocharged 4-cylinder engine. The turbocharged engine makes 240 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque, and all-wheel drive is an option.
- Safety package: The vehicle includes forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, automatic high-beam headlights, dynamic headlights, and a multi-view camera system. Blue Link adds SOS emergency assistance, automatic collision notification, and teen-driver alerts.
- Infotainment: Versions with navigation get an 8-inch touchscreen, while models without navigation use a 7-inch screen. Both systems include Android Auto, but not Apple CarPlay, and Blue Link subscription services are available.
- Fuel efficiency: The test vehicle averaged 21.5 mpg and was rated at 23 mpg in combined driving.
Which 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport trim should I buy?
The 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport is offered in 2 trim levels: Santa Fe Sport and Santa Fe Sport 2.0T Ultimate.
Here's the short version:
- Santa Fe Sport: This is the trim to start with if you want the lower entry price and the standard 185-horsepower 2.4-liter engine. It gives you the core Santa Fe Sport formula: a comfortable two-row layout, useful cargo space, and the practical features that make this SUV appealing in the first place.
- Santa Fe Sport 2.0T Ultimate: This is the better pick if you want the stronger turbocharged 2.0-liter engine, the more upscale equipment mix, and the fully loaded feel described in the source. It suits you best if you care more about power and features than keeping the purchase as affordable as possible.

What is the 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport's resale value?

That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can be good news if you’re buying now but less favorable if you plan to sell soon. For a future seller, the key takeaway is that resale value will likely depend on how well your vehicle stands out on condition, mileage, and equipment rather than on broad market momentum.
