How much does the 2017 RAM 2500 cost?

Prices have softened 3.07% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 2,310 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of trucks to compare.

Is the 2017 RAM 2500 a good car?

Yes — the 2017 RAM 2500 earns a 4.7/5 user rating and an 8/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Form and function at 10/10.

Owners consistently praise its powerful performance, modern and comfortable interior, and user-friendly features. The overview also points to a truck that works well as both a worksite tool and a family hauler, which helps explain why it feels more versatile than a basic heavy-duty pickup. Market availability is decent too, with 27.9% of listings marked as good or great deals.

Is the 2017 RAM 2500 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.7/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction. Review feedback repeatedly calls out reliability, and owners also describe the truck as dependable and well suited to towing and everyday use.

The expert evaluation also emphasizes that this is a truck built to handle worksite abuse while still serving as a daily driver, which supports the idea that it is engineered for long-term use. On the cost side, the truck’s broad trim range and heavy-duty hardware suggest it is meant to be used hard, so condition and maintenance history matter a lot on the used market.

For used buyers, the biggest long-term ownership risk is finding a truck that has been worked hard without the upkeep to match.

What should I look for when buying a used 2017 RAM 2500?

At 66.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a hands-on inspection of the truck’s body, steering feel, suspension behavior, and interior wear. Because this model is often used for towing and work, condition can vary widely from one truck to the next, so service records and signs of heavy-duty use deserve close attention. If you are shopping a higher-trim truck, make sure the equipment you want is actually present and functioning.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup ranges from the work-focused Tradesman to the well-equipped Limited, with the SLT adding a 5-inch touchscreen and sliding rear window, the Big Horn adding fog lights, a power driver’s seat, backup camera, and an 8.4-inch Uconnect touchscreen, and the Laramie adding heated and ventilated front seats plus front and rear parking sensors. The Tradesman is the most stripped-down version, so feature gaps are most obvious there.
• Powertrain: You get a 5.7-liter V8 with 383 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque, a 6.4-liter Hemi V8 with 410 horsepower and 429 lb-ft of torque, or a 6.7-liter Cummins turbodiesel with 350 horsepower and 660 lb-ft of torque with the manual or 370 horsepower and 800 lb-ft of torque with the automatic. The gas engines pair with a 6-speed automatic, while diesel buyers can choose manual or automatic.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes front and side-impact airbags, tire pressure monitoring, and electronic stability control. A reversing camera is optional, and parking sensors are available on higher trims.
• Infotainment: The Tradesman uses a basic LCD-screen radio, while SLT, Big Horn, and Power Wagon trims get a 5-inch color touchscreen. The 8.4-inch Uconnect touchscreen is standard on the Laramie, Laramie Longhorn, and Limited, and the system is described as intuitive with hard-button backups. There’s no Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.
• Fuel efficiency: In testing, the Power Wagon with the 6.4-liter Hemi returned just under 12 mpg combined.

Which 2017 RAM 2500 trim should I buy?

The 2017 RAM 2500 is offered in 6 trim levels: Tradesman, SLT, Big Horn, Laramie, Laramie Longhorn, and Limited.

Here's the short version:

• Tradesman: This is the work-first choice, with vinyl bench seats, a basic LCD-screen radio, steel wheels, and plastic bumpers. It makes sense if you want the lowest entry point and do not need much comfort or tech.
• SLT: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds the 5-inch touchscreen, cloth seats, chrome bumpers, a mini trip computer, SiriusXM, and a sliding rear window. It gives you a much more livable truck without jumping too far up the price ladder.
• Big Horn: This trim adds fog lights, a power driver’s seat, a backup camera, and the larger 8.4-inch Uconnect touchscreen. It is a smart step up if you want more convenience and a better cabin experience.
• Laramie: This is the comfort-focused choice, with plenty of chrome, heated and ventilated front seats, and front and rear parking sensors. It suits you if you want a more upscale daily driver.
• Laramie Longhorn: This trim sits above the Laramie and gets the 8.4-inch Uconnect touchscreen as standard. It is the right pick if you want a more premium feel and are willing to pay for it.
• Limited: This is the top trim, with a unique grille design, full leather interior, remote start, Ram Box cargo management, and chrome everywhere. It is the one to buy if you want the most luxury and convenience.

The Power Wagon is a separate off-road-focused model with its own hardware, including Bilstein shocks, 33-inch all-terrain tires, skid plates, a 12,000-pound Warn winch, front and rear lockers, and an electronically disconnecting front sway bar.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2017 RAM 2500?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile deals.

• Deal availability: 27.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 2,310 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.07% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 66.2% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $30,326, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2017 RAM 2500's resale value?

The current average of $30,741 sits slightly below last year's $31,715.

That kind of price movement suggests the truck has softened a bit, which can help you as a buyer today but may limit upside if you plan to resell soon. If you buy at the right price and keep the truck in strong condition, you can reduce the impact of that depreciation. Higher-trim trucks with desirable equipment may hold attention better than stripped-down work trucks.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.7/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

The 2017 RAM 2500 earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes front and side-impact airbags, tire pressure monitoring, and electronic stability control. A reversing camera is optional, and parking sensors are available on higher trims. The large mirrors with integrated wide-angle mirrors also help visibility when maneuvering.

Should I buy a 2017 RAM 2500 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2017 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2017 if:

• 27.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 66.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.07% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.7/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2017 model balances heavy-duty capability with a more comfortable, livable cabin, while still offering the broad trim spread and equipment variety that make it versatile for work and daily use.

The bottom line: The 2017 RAM 2500 is the right pick if you want a heavy-duty truck that can do real work without feeling bare-bones. If you are price-sensitive, the 2016 can be worth a look for similar core capability, while the 2018 is the better choice if you want newer tech and a standard backup camera.
