CarGurus Analysis: 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe
overall

Summary
With 2,744 currently listed for sale and an average price of $22,376, 33.1% of 2018 Chevrolet Tahoes for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe 4.27 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 6.67 / 10.
61.2% of 2018 Tahoe models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe stands out as an SUV people often buy because they want one, not because they have to justify it. Its appeal is tied to its styling and V8 engine burble, which give it a more emotional draw than a purely practical one. The available owner feedback also points to a cabin that feels spacious and comfortable, which helps explain why it remains attractive to families.
At the same time, the 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe is not the most rational choice in its class. The less expensive Chevy Traverse is better at hauling people and cargo, and other full-size SUVs can tow more trailer weight. That makes the Tahoe a vehicle with clear strengths, but also one whose value depends heavily on whether a buyer prioritizes presence and character over maximum utility.

Really love the Tahoe and all the features. It is very comfortable compared to my previous vehicle the Ford Explorer. I like that the fact that the vehicle sits up higher and is much more spacious. The vehicle is not missing anything in my opinion.

My new 2018 Tahoe LT is unlike my previous Tahoe LT which had leather seats, Bose Speakers & third row seating but it sure is Awesome. The ride, comfort & the all the updated features make this Tahoe a dream to drive. This is my 3rd Chevy Tahoe owned so I have a tremendous amount of confidence in Chevy Tahoe.

How much does the 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $22,396 |
| Year-Round Low | $22,349 |
| Year-Round High | $25,617 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $25,613 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −12.56% |
Prices have softened 12.56% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 2,735 listings available, which gives you a solid pool to compare prices and equipment.
Is the 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe a good car?
Generally — the 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe earns a 4.27/5 user rating and a 6.67/10 expert rating, which points to a vehicle that resonates strongly with shoppers even if it is not the most rational choice in its class. The standout strength is Look and feel at 10/10.
Owners repeatedly praise the spacious cabin, comfort, and family-friendly feel, and they also like its powerful performance and updated features. The Tahoe’s appeal is tied to its styling and V8 character, and the overview makes clear that it tends to win buyers who want presence and personality more than maximum utility.
That said, the Tahoe’s value depends on whether you prioritize emotional appeal over pure practicality, since other SUVs can do more hauling for less money. Even so, 33.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which suggests there is still room to shop selectively.
Is the 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe reliable?
Owners rate it 4.27/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction. The owner feedback also points to a cabin that feels spacious and comfortable, and it highlights the Tahoe as a vehicle many families can count on for everyday use.
The expert evaluation also describes the Tahoe as a vehicle with useful technology and strong capability, while noting that the V8 setup and towing focus are central to its appeal. Chevrolet’s maintenance-friendly ownership story is helped by the fact that the Tahoe includes practical features and a straightforward layout, which can make day-to-day use easier to live with.
For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that a poorly maintained or heavily used example can be expensive to sort out, so condition and service history matter a lot.
What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe?
At 61.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually attractive. Focus on body condition, signs of prior repair, and whether the cabin and mechanicals match the seller’s description. Because this SUV is often bought for family use, it is worth paying close attention to how well the interior, safety equipment, and drivetrain have been maintained.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The Tahoe’s styling is a major draw, and the Premier trim with the optional RST Package adds giant 22-inch wheels, black bowtie badges, and Tungsten Metallic paint for a more aggressive look. Base-trim shoppers should pay close attention to feature gaps, since the more upscale presentation and equipment are part of what makes higher trims feel special.
- Powertrain: You can get a 5.3-liter V8 with a 6-speed automatic, or a 6.2-liter V8 with a 10-speed automatic. The bigger engine brings stronger power and a more engaging exhaust note, but it also comes with premium-fuel recommendations and higher running costs.
- Safety package: Chevrolet includes blind-spot monitoring, forward-collision warning, low-speed automatic emergency braking, and lane-keeping assist. Adaptive cruise control with high-speed automatic emergency braking is reserved for Premier trim, and it is not available with the bigger 6.2-liter V8.
- Infotainment: The MyLink system includes an 8-inch driver information center, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, OnStar subscription services with a Wi-Fi hotspot, and physical knobs and buttons for key functions. It also offers a hidden cubby behind the screen and available rear-seat entertainment.
- Fuel efficiency: The 6.2-liter V8 averaged 17 mpg on the test loop, and Chevrolet recommends premium fuel for that engine.
Which 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe trim should I buy?
The 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe is offered in 2 trim levels: LS and Premier.
Here's the short version:
- LS: This is the value-oriented starting point, and it makes the Tahoe’s core appeal available without pushing you into the pricier luxury-leaning setup. It is the trim to consider if you want the Tahoe’s styling, V8 character, and family-friendly space while keeping the purchase more grounded.
- Premier: This is the better choice if you want the most upscale Tahoe experience and are willing to pay for it. It is the trim that pairs best with the Tahoe’s image-first appeal, and it is also the one tied to the available adaptive cruise control and high-speed automatic emergency braking.
The safety-package note to keep in mind is that adaptive cruise control with high-speed automatic emergency braking is reserved for Premier trim, and it cannot be paired with the bigger 6.2-liter V8.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop patiently but should move quickly on the right listing.
- Deal availability: 33.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 2,735 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 12.56% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 61.2% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $22,349, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe's resale value?
The current average of $22,396 sits slightly below last year's $25,613.
That price movement suggests the Tahoe has already absorbed a meaningful amount of depreciation, which can help future resale stability if you buy at the right number. If you pay close to the current average, your downside is likely better than it would have been a year ago, but condition and mileage will still matter a lot when you eventually sell.
Because the Tahoe has a strong identity and a loyal audience, well-kept examples should continue to attract interest. A clean history and desirable equipment will matter most if you want to protect value later.
Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.27/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe safe?
The Tahoe gets a mediocre three-star rating for rollover resistance from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), and it earns five-star ratings in all other NHTSA tests.
It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
Chevrolet includes blind-spot monitoring, forward-collision warning, low-speed automatic emergency braking, and lane-keeping assist across the Tahoe lineup. Adaptive cruise control with high-speed automatic emergency braking is limited to Premier trim, so that is one of the key safety-related upgrades to look for if you want the most advanced setup.
The rollover result is the main caveat to keep in mind, especially because this is a tall, heavy SUV that families often use for everyday driving.
Should I buy a 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2018 if:
- 33.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 61.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 12.56% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.27/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
- Don’t try to rationalize the purchase of a 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe; this year stands out most for its styling and V8 engine burble, and the expert takeaway is that the Tahoe RST with the RST 6.2L Performance Package is the most compelling expression of that idea.
The bottom line: If you want the Tahoe for its character, presence, and V8 appeal, the 2018 model year makes sense, especially if you can find a clean example at a discount. If your priority is maximum practicality or the lowest possible running costs, you may want to keep shopping and compare alternatives before committing.
