CarGurus Analysis: 2018 Hyundai Elantra GT
overall

Summary
With 176 currently listed for sale and an average price of $11,886.00, 38.1% of 2018 Hyundai Elantra GTs for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2018 Hyundai Elantra GT 4.6 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it an 8 / 10.
59.1% of 2018 Elantra GT models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2018 Hyundai Elantra GT stands out as Hyundai’s most competent hatchback to date, and its appeal starts with the basic hatchback formula. Compared with a sedan, it offers more usable cargo space while keeping the sporty driving dynamics and fuel efficiency that can be lost with a crossover. It also fits into a sweet spot of enjoyability, affordability, and practicality, which makes it an appealing daily driver for buyers who want something more versatile than a conventional four-door.
What makes this Elantra GT distinctive is that it feels like a more fully developed small car than Hyundai’s earlier hatchback efforts. The previous-generation Elantra GT was described as feeling more like an afterthought and going largely unnoticed, while the 2018 model is presented as a standout small car. That gives it a stronger identity in a segment that includes the Volkswagen Golf, Ford Focus hatch, and Subaru Impreza wagon. Owners also praise its good handling, comfort, value for money, and fun city driving, along with its sporty hatchback design.
There are limits, though. Some drivers say acceleration can be lacking, especially at higher speeds. Even so, the 2018 Hyundai Elantra GT remains attractive because it combines everyday usefulness with a more engaging personality than many practical small cars.

Acceleration is lacking but, overall, performance, comfort, mileage are good! Price was fair. Would recommend as a city car.

Base Elantra has good pick up 0-40 mph, but after 40 it strains. Base model is a good handling car and good value if buying it cheap. But new - people should opt for the turbo.. 2-3k more but includes better interior, push button, and way faster engine.

This car is great! I just need a small car, and prefer the versatility and sportiness of a hatchback. So far, seems to be a step up from my Ford Focus.

How much does the 2018 Hyundai Elantra GT cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $11,864 |
| Year-Round Low | $11,736.95 |
| Year-Round High | $12,572.13 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $12,337 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −3.83% |
Prices have softened 3.83% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 172 listings available, which gives you a modest pool of options to compare.
If you find a listing below $11,736.95, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2018 Hyundai Elantra GT a good car?
Yes — 4.6/5 is a strong user rating for the 2018 Hyundai Elantra GT, and the expert score is 8/10. The model scores 9/10 across Cost effectiveness and Technology.
Owners consistently praise its good handling, comfort, and value for money, and they also like its fun city driving and sporty hatchback design. That lines up well with the overview’s focus on a hatchback that gives you more usable cargo space than a sedan while staying practical and enjoyable as a daily driver.
With 43.0% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have a decent chance of finding one that fits your budget.
Is the 2018 Hyundai Elantra GT reliable?
Owners rate it 4.6/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback also points to a car that feels good, comfortable, and value-packed, with a driving experience many owners describe as fun and easy to live with. The expert review adds that it can serve as a refined, dependable daily driver, which reinforces the sense that this is a car built for regular use rather than occasional enjoyment.
For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is making sure the specific car you choose has been maintained well and hasn’t been worn down by hard use or neglected service.
What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Hyundai Elantra GT?
At 56.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has had any bodywork or if the seller can’t clearly document maintenance. Focus on overall condition, because the market includes a meaningful number of cars with prior incidents, and you want to separate a clean, well-kept example from one that has been repaired after damage.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The Base trim gives you 17-inch alloy wheels, an 8-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth, a USB port, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay capability, a 60/40 split-fold rear bench seat, SiriusXM satellite radio, and manually adjustable front seats. The Sport adds LED head- and taillights, larger 18-inch alloy wheels, leather seating, heated front seats, push-button start, dual-zone automatic climate control, and a more upscale cabin treatment.
- Powertrain: The Base uses a 2-liter inline 4-cylinder engine with 161 horsepower and 151 pound-feet of torque, paired with either a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic. The Sport uses a 1.6-liter turbocharged four with 201 horsepower and 195 pound-feet of torque, paired with a 6-speed manual or an optional 7-speed dual-clutch transmission.
- Safety package: Blind-spot detection with rear cross-traffic alert and lane-change assist are optional on the Base but standard on the Sport. The Sport is also available with forward-collision warning, adaptive cruise control, and lane-departure warning, while the Base does not get those features.

Which 2018 Hyundai Elantra GT trim should I buy?
The 2018 Hyundai Elantra GT is offered in 2 trim levels: Base and Sport.
Here's the short version:
- Base: This is the value play if you want the core hatchback formula at the lowest entry price. You still get the 8-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a split-fold rear seat, and a solid set of everyday features, while the driving dynamics and fuel economy remain strong. If you want the best balance of price and practicality, this is the trim to start with.
- Sport: This is the better pick if you want more power, a more upscale cabin, and the most complete feature set. It adds the turbocharged engine, upgraded suspension, leather seating, heated front seats, dual-zone climate control, and standard blind-spot detection with rear cross-traffic alert and lane-change assist. It’s the trim to choose if you want the most engaging and well-equipped version.
The Sport trim is the one that gets the standard blind-spot detection, rear cross-traffic alert, and lane-change assist package.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Hyundai Elantra GT?
The market leans in your favor right now, with a decent amount of inventory and a meaningful share of listings priced competitively.
- Deal availability: 43.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 172 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 3.83% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 56.4% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $11,736.95, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2018 Hyundai Elantra GT's resale value?
The current average of $11,864 sits slightly below last year's $12,337.
That price movement suggests the model has softened a bit, which can work against you if you’re selling soon. On the other hand, it can help you if you’re buying now and plan to keep the car for a while before reselling it.
Because the market has already adjusted downward, a clean, well-kept example is more likely to hold its appeal than one with accident history or visible wear. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.6/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2018 Hyundai Elantra GT safe?
It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.
The Elantra GT comes standard with front and side-impact airbags, electronic stability control, a tire pressure monitoring system, and a reversing camera with dynamic guidelines. Blind-spot detection with rear cross-traffic alert and lane-change assist are optional on the Base trim but standard on the Sport trim. The Sport model is also available with forward-collision warning, adaptive cruise control, and lane-departure warning, while the Base does not get those features.
One important caveat is that this model had not yet been tested by NHTSA or IIHS in the source data, so you should lean heavily on the available equipment list and trim differences when comparing used examples.
Should I buy a 2018 Hyundai Elantra GT or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2018 if:
- 43.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 56.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 3.83% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.6/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- It’s presented as Hyundai’s most competent hatchback to date, with a strong mix of cargo utility, sporty driving feel, and everyday practicality.
The bottom line: The 2018 is the better choice if you want the strongest blend of value, practicality, and driving enjoyment in this generation. If you’re especially price-sensitive, you can focus on the cleanest, best-documented Base trim examples and use the softer market to your advantage.
