CarGurus Analysis: 2018 Mazda MAZDA6
overall

Summary
With 384 currently listed for sale and an average price of $16,777, 31.3% of 2018 Mazda MAZDA6s for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2018 Mazda MAZDA6 5 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.83 / 10.
56.3% of 2018 MAZDA6 models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2018 Mazda MAZDA6 stands out as a more upscale take on the midsize sedan formula. Mazda gave it a slight redesign, a redesigned interior, a new top-tier Signature trim, and the addition of a turbocharged 2.5-liter engine from the CX-9, all of which were aimed at helping the car compete with more expensive alternatives. That combination gives the MAZDA6 a stronger premium feel than its price might suggest, especially for buyers who want a sedan that looks and feels more refined than the average family car.
What makes this model especially appealing is the way it tries to cover both ends of the market at once. The available turbocharged engine adds a more powerful character, while the upgraded cabin helps the car feel more luxurious. At the same time, the source material suggests Mazda is using this model to make up for not having a separate luxury brand, so the MAZDA6 has to do more than just provide basic transportation. For shoppers, that means the 2018 MAZDA6 is distinctive not because it is the biggest or flashiest sedan, but because it aims to deliver an upscale experience in a single, mainstream package.

Very impressionable features. Very good value for price. This vehicle is missing nothing, it's all there. This vehicle is top tier, it's up there with Honda and Toyota.

Love the car!! Ive been a Mazda fan for years and they just continue to improve. I purchased the Signature, and its fantastic. Loaded with features, tons of power thanks to the turbo, and a very very quiet ride. With snow tires on it also does well in the snow.

Easily one of the top choices in its segment. It drives and has an interior from a car that costs twice as much. Its very good looking outside as well. Its efficient, spacious, and reliable. And NOTHING DRIVES LIKE THIS. it feels amazing to be behind the wheel of one of these. Excellent car all the way around.

What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Mazda MAZDA6?
At 55% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle-history report and then prioritize a close inspection of body panels, paint consistency, tires, and braking feel. Because this model can be found in a wide range of trims and equipment levels, it also pays to confirm that the features you want are actually present on the specific car you’re considering. If you’re shopping a higher-mileage example, pay extra attention to signs of wear in the cabin and on the suspension.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The Sport trim includes standard LED headlights, push-button start, an 8-inch infotainment touchscreen, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, and a rear-view camera, while the Touring adds 19-inch wheels, keyless entry, a sunroof, auto wipers and high beams, heated front seats with driver power, faux leather, rear USB charging ports, and rear vents. The Grand Touring and higher trims add more luxury and technology, with the Signature bringing the most upscale materials and features.
- Powertrain: The base 2.5-liter engine makes 187 hp and 186 lb-ft of torque, and the turbocharged 2.5-liter engine raises output to 250 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque. The base engine returns 26 city mpg and 35 highway mpg for 29 combined, while the turbo returns 23 city, 31 highway and 26 combined mpg.
- Safety package: The available i-Activesense package adds forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise, and lane-departure warning with lane-keep assist. The base Sport already includes blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert and a rear-view camera.
- Infotainment: The Mazda Connect system uses a rotary controller, and the touchscreen only responds to touch when the vehicle is in park. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto were added for all Mazda6 models later in the model year.
- Fuel efficiency: The base engine is rated at 26 city mpg and 35 highway mpg for 29 combined, while the turbocharged engine is rated at 23 city, 31 highway and 26 combined mpg.
Which 2018 Mazda MAZDA6 trim should I buy?
The 2018 Mazda MAZDA6 is offered in 5 trim levels: Sport, Touring, Grand Touring, Grand Touring Reserve, Signature.
Here's the short version:
- Sport: This is the entry point, but it still gives you a strong feature set with LED headlights, push-button start, an 8-inch touchscreen, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, and a rear-view camera. It’s the best-value choice if you want the lowest price and don’t mind the simpler cabin and standard manual transmission.
- Touring: This trim adds the features many shoppers expect in a mainstream midsize sedan, including 19-inch wheels, keyless entry, a sunroof, heated front seats, faux leather, and rear-seat conveniences. It’s the smart step up if you want a more complete daily driver without jumping too far in price.
- Grand Touring: This is where the turbocharged 2.5-liter engine arrives, along with an upgraded infotainment system, an 11-speaker stereo, navigation, and satellite radio. Choose this if you want the stronger performance character that helps define the Mazda6.
- Grand Touring Reserve: This trim adds a heated steering wheel, driver memory, real leather, heated rear seats, ventilated front seats, adaptive front lighting, and a head-up display. It suits you if comfort and premium touches matter more than keeping the price in check.
- Signature: This is the most luxurious version, with a digital cluster, front and rear parking sensors, a 360-degree camera, Nappa leather, microfiber faux suede, real wood trim, and upgraded interior lighting. It’s the right pick if you want the most upscale Mazda6 experience.
The safety package is especially easy to recommend because it’s available for a relatively low price, and the base Sport already includes useful standard driver-assistance features.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Mazda MAZDA6?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage but still need to move quickly on the right car.

- Inventory: There are 398 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 3.84% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 55.0% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $15,794, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2018 Mazda MAZDA6's resale value?
The current average of $16,647 sits slightly below last year's $17,312.
That price movement suggests the market has cooled a bit, which can help you buy more confidently now but may also limit short-term upside if you plan to resell soon. Even so, the Mazda6’s strong reputation for style, driving enjoyment, and value should help it stay appealing to used-car shoppers. A well-kept example with the right equipment should remain easier to move than a neglected one.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2018 Mazda MAZDA6 safe?
The 2018 Mazda MAZDA6 earns five-star ratings in all NHTSA tests except rollover and front passenger side tests, which garnered four-star ratings.
It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.
The base Sport trim comes standard with blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert and a rear-view camera. If you want the full suite of safety systems, Mazda makes it available for $625, which is a relatively accessible upgrade. The expert review also notes that braking performance is a weak point, with stopping distances that trail some rivals.
Should I buy a 2018 Mazda MAZDA6 or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2018 if:
- 33.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 55% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 3.84% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- Mazda’s slight redesign, new Signature trim, and turbocharged 2.5-liter engine make this year feel more upscale and more competitive than the model’s earlier versions.
The bottom line: If you want the strongest mix of style, value, and premium feel, the 2018 Mazda MAZDA6 is the year to target. If you’re shopping mainly on price, you can still find good value here, but you should compare carefully and focus on condition, equipment, and accident history before you buy.
