How much does the 2018 Subaru Crosstrek cost?

Prices have softened 4.53% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,862 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of options to compare.

Is the 2018 Subaru Crosstrek a good car?

Generally — the 2018 Subaru Crosstrek earns 4.2/5 from owners and 7.33/10 from our experts. The model scores 9/10 across Technology and Safety.

Owners repeatedly praise its quality, safety features, and smooth driving experience, with the solid feel and EyeSight-equipped confidence coming up often. The Crosstrek’s practical, outdoorsy setup also fits buyers who want a small crossover that feels ready for active use. At the same time, the overview points to a vehicle that can seem overpriced for what it offers, so value matters as much as capability here.

With 33.1% of listings priced as good or great deals, you have some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2018 Subaru Crosstrek reliable?

Owners rate it 4.2/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a reliable, dependable, trouble-free ownership experience for many drivers, especially those who value a car they can count on for everyday use. The expert evaluation also emphasizes Subaru’s practical, durable approach, with the Crosstrek built to handle real-world use rather than just look the part. Its all-weather character and composed driving feel reinforce that sense of long-term dependability.

For used buyers, the main ownership risk is less about the concept and more about finding a well-kept example that has been maintained consistently.

What should I look for when buying a used 2018 Subaru Crosstrek?

At 66.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the listing price looks unusually attractive. Focus on body condition, signs of prior repair, and whether the car’s equipment and wear match the mileage and asking price. Because this model is often bought for its practical, outdoorsy use, you should also pay close attention to signs of hard use.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The Base trim comes with 17-inch alloy wheels, integrated roof rails, manual seats, power windows, a 60/40 split-fold rear bench, and the 6.5-inch StarLink system, while the Premium adds fog lights, heated front seats, a windshield-wiper deicer, heated side mirrors, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, cloth seats with orange stitching, auto on/off headlights, and a six-speaker stereo. The Limited adds leather seats, automatic climate control, an 8-inch StarLink screen, 18-inch alloy wheels, keyless entry with push-button start, and LED headlights that turn with the steering wheel.
• Powertrain: The 2.0-liter four-cylinder makes 152 horsepower and 145 pound-feet of torque, with a 6-speed manual or CVT and standard all-wheel drive. The manual is standard on Base and Premium, while the CVT is standard on Limited and brings paddle shifters; the CVT also returns better fuel economy than the manual.
• Safety package: EyeSight is the named driver-assistance suite, and it includes forward-collision avoidance, lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and sway warning. Automatic high beams, blind-spot detection with rear cross-traffic alert, and reverse automatic braking are also available, while some features are trim-dependent.
• Infotainment: Base and Premium use a 6.5-inch touchscreen, while Limited gets an 8-inch screen. The system supports easy smartphone integration, including Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
• Fuel efficiency: With the manual transmission, fuel economy is 23 mpg city, 29 highway, and 25 combined. With the CVT, it improves to 29 city, 33 highway, and 29 combined.

Which 2018 Subaru Crosstrek trim should I buy?

The 2018 Subaru Crosstrek is offered in 3 trim levels: Base, Premium, and Limited.

Here's the short version:

• Base: This is the value play if you want the Crosstrek’s core strengths at the lowest entry price. You still get the rugged look, roof rails, and the essentials, but the cabin is the most basic and the feature set is sparse compared with the higher trims.
• Premium: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds the comfort and convenience upgrades that make daily use easier, including heated front seats, fog lights, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and a better stereo. It’s the trim that most clearly balances price and livability.
• Limited: This is the trim to choose if you want the most polished version, with leather seating, automatic climate control, the larger 8-inch screen, keyless entry with push-button start, and LED headlights that turn with the steering wheel. It’s the most upscale choice, but you’ll pay for it.

EyeSight is available on the Crosstrek, and some safety features are trim-dependent, so it’s worth checking exactly which driver-assistance equipment is included on the listing you’re considering.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2018 Subaru Crosstrek?

This is a moderate, selective-buyer market, so you can shop carefully without feeling rushed.

• Deal availability: 33.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,862 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.53% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 66.1% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $15,471, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2018 Subaru Crosstrek's resale value?

The current average of $16,014 sits slightly below last year's $16,774.

That decline suggests the market has eased, which can help you buy more confidently now but may also mean future resale gains are limited if prices continue to soften. If you plan to sell later, the current trend points to a model that is holding value reasonably well, but not aggressively appreciating. Strong demand for practical, safety-focused crossovers should still support interest from used buyers.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.2/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2018 Subaru Crosstrek safe?

The 2018 Subaru Crosstrek earns a Top Safety Pick designation from IIHS.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

The Crosstrek comes standard with front and side impact airbags, a reversing camera, tire pressure monitoring, LATCH child-seat anchors, and vehicle dynamics control with traction control. Subaru’s EyeSight suite adds forward-collision avoidance, lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and sway warning, while automatic high beams, blind-spot detection with rear cross-traffic alert, and reverse automatic braking are also available. Some of those features are trim-dependent, so you should verify the exact safety equipment on the vehicle you’re considering.

Should I buy a 2018 Subaru Crosstrek or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2018 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2018 if:

• 33.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 66.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.53% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.2/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• The 2018 model is the first full redesign, with a more SUV-like look, improved composure, and a stronger emphasis on practicality and safety.

The bottom line: If you want the redesigned Crosstrek’s mix of safety, efficiency, and outdoorsy utility, the 2018 is the right target. If you’re mainly chasing the lowest possible price, a nearby year may be worth comparing, but the 2018 gives you the more modern version of the formula and a strong balance of features and market value.
