Is the 2019 Hyundai Veloster a good car?

Yes — the 2019 Hyundai Veloster earns a 5/5 user rating and an 8/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Cost effectiveness and Safety.

Its appeal comes from the way it blends daily usability with a rewarding driving experience, while the hatchback-meets-coupe shape and 3-door layout give it a distinctive personality. That makes it a strong fit if you want something practical but not ordinary.

The market also shows 29.2% of listings as good or great deals, which suggests there are still some attractive buys if you shop carefully.

Is the 2019 Hyundai Veloster reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The 2019 Veloster’s redesign supports its case as a modern, usable small car, and the expert evaluation highlights a sporty daily-driver character that is both fun and functional. Its standard equipment and straightforward cabin layout also point to a car that should be easy to live with.

The 2019 Veloster’s performance setup is simple and proven, with a naturally aspirated base engine and front-wheel drive across the lineup. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is choosing a car whose condition and maintenance history have not been carefully verified.

What should I look for when buying a used 2019 Hyundai Veloster?

At 58.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle-history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a turbo model or a car with higher mileage. Focus on body condition, tire wear, and signs of prior repair quality, since the Veloster’s distinctive shape makes clean panel fit and finish especially important.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base 2.0 comes with 17-inch alloy wheels, LED daytime running lights, heated power-folding side mirrors, a rear spoiler, a lower rear diffuser, a 7-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, dual USB ports, and a reversing camera. The 2.0 Premium adds 18-inch wheels, a wide sunroof, heated front seats, automatic temperature control, wireless charging, voice recognition, push-button start, an Infinity sound system, and an 8-inch touchscreen, while the Turbo Ultimate adds full-leather seating, navigation, HD Radio, a head-up display, and rain-sensing wipers.
• Powertrain: The base model uses a naturally aspirated 2.0-liter 4-cylinder with 147 horsepower and 132 pound-feet of torque. Turbo trims use a 1.6-liter turbocharged inline-four with 201 hp and 195 lb-ft, while the Veloster N is described as a more powerful performance variant with a turbocharged 2.0-liter engine.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes forward-collision avoidance, lane-keeping assist, driver-attention warning, a reversing camera, tire-pressure monitoring, and a driver’s-side blind-spot mirror. The 2.0 Premium, Turbo, and Turbo Ultimate replace the mirror with blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert, and the Turbo Ultimate adds pedestrian detection.
• Infotainment: The base car gets a 7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The 2.0 Premium and Turbo Ultimate move up to an 8-inch touchscreen, and the Turbo Ultimate adds navigation and HD Radio.
• Fuel efficiency: The 2.0 with the 7-speed automatic returns 27 mpg city, 34 highway, and 30 combined. With the manual, it returns 25 mpg city, 33 highway, and 28 combined. The Turbo with the 7-speed DCT returns 28 mpg city, 34 highway, and 30 combined.

Which 2019 Hyundai Veloster trim should I buy?

The 2019 Hyundai Veloster is offered in 5 trim levels: 2.0, 2.0 Premium, Turbo R-Spec, Turbo, and Turbo Ultimate.

Here's the short version:

• 2.0: This is the value play if you want the Veloster’s distinctive design and core tech without stretching the budget. It already gives you the 7-inch touchscreen, smartphone integration, and a reversing camera, so it covers the essentials well.
• 2.0 Premium: This is the best choice if you want the most comfort and convenience for the money. It adds the larger touchscreen, heated front seats, automatic climate control, wireless charging, push-button start, and an upgraded audio system.
• Turbo R-Spec: This is the most affordable way to get the turbocharged engine, and it leans into the enthusiast side with racing pedals, a sport shifter, unique seats, and summer performance tires. It gives up some comfort features, so it suits you best if driving enjoyment matters more than amenities.
• Turbo: This trim restores much of the comfort equipment from the 2.0 Premium while adding the stronger turbo engine and extra driver-focused touches like a better steering wheel and driver lumbar support. It’s a strong middle ground if you want more performance without going all the way to the top trim.
• Turbo Ultimate: This is the most fully equipped version, with leather seating, navigation, a head-up display, rain-sensing wipers, and the most advanced safety setup in the lineup. It makes the most sense if you want the Veloster at its most premium.

The safety package is strongest on the 2.0 Premium, Turbo, and Turbo Ultimate, which add blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert, while the Turbo Ultimate also gets pedestrian detection.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2019 Hyundai Veloster?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you’re patient and compare listings carefully.

• Deal availability: 29.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 154 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.07% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 58.4% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $11,698, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2019 Hyundai Veloster's resale value?

The current average of $12,145 sits slightly below last year's $13,069.

That decline suggests the market has become a bit more buyer-friendly, which can make it harder for sellers to command top dollar right away. If you’re planning to sell later, the current pricing trend means you should expect value to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and trim.

The good news is that the Veloster’s distinctive design and strong enthusiast appeal can help it stand out in a crowded used-car market. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2019 Hyundai Veloster safe?

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety features include a full array of front- and side-impact airbags, a reversing camera, a tire-pressure monitoring system, a driver’s-side blind-spot mirror, forward-collision avoidance, lane-keeping assist, and driver-attention warning. The 2.0 Premium, Turbo, and Turbo Ultimate upgrade to blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert, while the Turbo Ultimate adds pedestrian detection.

The safety setup is a strong point for this model year, especially because those driver-assistance features come standard rather than being reserved for higher trims. The main caveat is that the base trim relies on the blind-spot mirror instead of the fuller blind-spot monitoring system.

Should I buy a 2019 Hyundai Veloster or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2019 if:

• 29.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 58.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 7.07% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2019 model year stands out because it was completely redesigned, giving you a sporty daily driver that is both fun and functional.

The bottom line: If you want the Veloster’s redesigned look, strong value, and distinctive personality, the 2019 is the right year to target. If you’re especially price-sensitive, keep shopping carefully for a clean, well-priced example, because the market still includes enough inventory to reward comparison shopping.
