The Veloster is a fun car to drive. The standard model we bought shifts gears effectively. The safety features are very effective. I think the car is good value for the money we paid. We used to have a Honda CRX and this car tops that.

How much does the 2019 Hyundai Veloster cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $12,448 |
| Year-Round Low | $11,698.21 |
| Year-Round High | $13,206.62 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $13,075 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −4.80% |
Prices have softened 4.80% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
With 165 listings available, you have a modest amount of inventory to compare before you buy. If you find a listing below $11,698.21, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2019 Hyundai Veloster a good car?
Yes — the 2019 Hyundai Veloster earns a 5/5 user rating and an 8/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Cost effectiveness and Safety.
The 2019 Veloster stands out because it takes a different approach from Hyundai’s more conventional cars, with a unique hatchback-meets-coupe shape and an unusual 3-door layout. That design helps it feel like an offbeat hatch rather than a standard compact car, while the redesign for this model year reinforces its fresh take on the hatchback formula.
It is also described as both fun and functional, which gives it broad appeal if you want something practical without giving up character. 32.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which suggests there are still worthwhile opportunities in the market.
Is the 2019 Hyundai Veloster reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The 2019 Veloster is presented as a sporty daily driver that blends practicality and performance, and the expert review emphasizes that balance as a core strength. Its standard equipment and broad trim spread also suggest a car built to serve different kinds of buyers without feeling stripped down.
The standard 2.0-liter engine is described as naturally aspirated, while the turbocharged versions add more power for buyers who want stronger acceleration. The expert review also notes that the driving experience is engaging and that the manual gearbox feels short and direct, which supports the impression of a well-sorted powertrain.
The base trim includes a reversing camera, Bluetooth connectivity, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a 7-inch touchscreen, while higher trims add more comfort and convenience features. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is choosing a neglected example, so condition and maintenance history matter more than the badge on the hatch.
What should I look for when buying a used 2019 Hyundai Veloster?
At 61.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and make sure the car’s accident record, title status, and service history all line up. A pre-purchase inspection is especially important here because the Veloster’s unusual body style and sporty positioning make condition differences more noticeable. Focus on panel fit, tire wear, brake condition, and signs that the car was driven hard or repaired poorly.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base 2.0 comes with 17-inch alloy wheels, LED daytime running lights, heated power-folding side mirrors, a rear spoiler, a lower rear diffuser, a 7-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, dual USB ports, and a reversing camera. The 2.0 Premium adds 18-inch alloy wheels, a wide sunroof, heated front seats, automatic temperature control, wireless charging, voice recognition, push-button start, an Infinity sound system, and an 8-inch touchscreen. The Turbo R-Spec is the most affordable turbo model and adds unique R-Spec seats, alloy racing pedals, a B&M Racing sport shifter, and Michelin Pilot Sport 4 summer performance tires, while removing some comfort features. The Turbo adds back more of the Premium content plus turn signals integrated into the side mirrors, a perforated-leather-wrapped steering wheel, and power lumbar support. The Turbo Ultimate adds rain-sensing wipers, a 2-tone black roof, full-leather seating, navigation, HD Radio, and a head-up display.
- Powertrain: The base engine is a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder with 147 horsepower and 132 pound-feet of torque. Turbo trims use a 1.6-liter turbocharged inline four with 201 hp and 195 lb-ft of torque. All models are front-wheel drive. A 6-speed manual comes standard on the 2.0, R-Spec, and Turbo Ultimate, while a 6-speed automatic is optional on the 2.0 and standard on the 2.0 Premium. The Turbo uses a 7-speed DCT, and the Turbo Ultimate can also be had with that transmission.
- Safety package: Standard safety equipment includes front- and side-impact airbags, a reversing camera, a tire-pressure monitoring system, a driver’s-side blind-spot mirror, forward-collision avoidance, lane-keeping assist, and driver-attention warning. The 2.0 Premium, Turbo, and Turbo Ultimate replace the blind-spot mirror with blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert. The Turbo Ultimate adds an upgraded forward-collision avoidance system with pedestrian detection.
- Infotainment: The base car uses a 7-inch color touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The 2.0 Premium and Turbo Ultimate get an 8-inch touchscreen and wireless charging for compatible devices. The Turbo Ultimate also adds navigation and a head-up display.
- Fuel efficiency: The 2.0 with the 7-speed automatic returns 27 mpg city, 34 highway, 30 combined. With the manual, it returns 25 mpg city, 33 highway, 28 combined. The Turbo with the 7-speed DCT returns 28 mpg city, 34 highway, 30 combined, and the manual drops mileage just 1 or 2 mpg from that in all three phases.
Which 2019 Hyundai Veloster trim should I buy?
The 2019 Hyundai Veloster is offered in 5 trim levels: 2.0, 2.0 Premium, Turbo R-Spec, Turbo, and Turbo Ultimate.
Here's the short version:
- 2.0: This is the value pick if you want the Veloster’s distinctive design and core tech without stretching the budget. You still get a 7-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, a reversing camera, and a surprisingly complete standard safety list.
- 2.0 Premium: This is the best-value upgrade if you want more comfort and convenience without jumping to turbo pricing. The larger 8-inch touchscreen, heated front seats, wireless charging, push-button start, Infinity audio, and sunroof make it the most balanced choice for many shoppers.
- Turbo R-Spec: This is the cheapest way into the turbocharged engine, and it leans into driving enjoyment with performance tires, a sport shifter, and unique seats. It makes sense if you care more about engagement than luxury features.
- Turbo: This trim adds back more comfort and refinement while keeping the stronger turbo engine. It is a good fit if you want the performance upgrade but also want features like power lumbar support and a better steering wheel.
- Turbo Ultimate: This is the most fully equipped version, with navigation, a head-up display, full leather, rain-sensing wipers, and more advanced driver assistance. It is the right choice if you want the most content and are willing to pay for it.
The safety package is strong across the lineup, but the 2.0 Premium, Turbo, and Turbo Ultimate get blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert instead of the base car’s blind-spot mirror.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2019 Hyundai Veloster?
This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it rewards comparison shopping more than impulse buying.
- Deal availability: 32.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 165 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 4.80% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 61.8% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $11,698.21, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2019 Hyundai Veloster's resale value?
The current average of $12,448 sits slightly below last year's $13,075.
That softer pricing suggests the market has moved in buyers’ favor, which can help you get in at a lower cost today. For a future seller, it also means resale value may depend heavily on condition, mileage, and trim choice rather than broad market momentum alone.
Because the model has already shown a 4.80% year-over-year decline, you should expect value retention to be more sensitive to how well the car is maintained. Well-kept examples with desirable equipment should hold up better than neglected ones.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2019 Hyundai Veloster safe?
It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
Standard safety features include a full array of front- and side-impact airbags, a reversing camera, a tire-pressure monitoring system, and a driver’s-side blind-spot mirror. Hyundai also includes forward-collision avoidance, lane-keeping assist, and driver-attention warning as standard equipment, which gives the Veloster a strong baseline for a compact car.
The 2.0 Premium, Turbo, and Turbo Ultimate upgrade to blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert, while the Turbo Ultimate adds pedestrian detection to its forward-collision avoidance system. That means you should pay attention to trim level if you want the most advanced driver-assistance coverage.
Should I buy a 2019 Hyundai Veloster or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2019 if:
- 32.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 61.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 4.80% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2019 model year is notable because it was completely redesigned, giving you the fresh version of the Veloster with its distinctive three-door layout and sporty daily-driver character.
The bottom line: If you want the redesigned Veloster with its distinctive styling, strong standard equipment, and lower current pricing, the 2019 is the right place to focus. If you are especially price-sensitive, keep shopping carefully for the best-condition example and prioritize accident history, because the market includes a meaningful share of cars with prior incidents.
