Why it stands out
The 2019 Subaru WRX STI stands out as a focused performance sedan that blends serious speed with everyday usefulness. It comes standard with all-wheel drive, and the buying guide describes it as a good blend of serious performance and day-to-day practicality. That same source also frames the WRX STI as a direct offshoot of Subaru’s motorsport and rally racing efforts, which helps explain its reputation as a road-going rally car rather than just a conventional sport sedan.
What makes the WRX STI distinctive is how much performance hardware it packs into a practical package. The buying guide notes a turbocharged 2.5-liter boxer four-cylinder engine, a six-speed manual transmission, a Driver Controlled Center Differential, Multi-mode Vehicle Dynamics Control, and Subaru Intelligent Drive. It also highlights Brembo performance brakes, Super Sport ABS, and a suspension that is firm and geared toward cornering. The tradeoffs are clear, though: the ride is rough in daily driving, the interior materials are cheap, and many examples have been heavily used, abused, or modified.
For buyers, the appeal is partly emotional and partly practical. The WRX STI offers the kind of all-weather traction and back-road capability that made it famous, while still providing enough room and convenience to work as a daily driver. At the same time, the buying guide makes clear that ownership is not cheap, and that clean examples are becoming harder to find. That combination of performance, practicality, and growing collector appeal is a big part of what keeps the 2019 Subaru WRX STI distinctive.

Subaru by far has the best AWD system. The STi is an improvement on the other Subarus, because you can choose how much power goes to each wheel. And for being in the price range it is, it has some power to it. It is super sporty, yet really comfortable to drive, and can be daily driven. Some say about reliability issues, but as a Subaru tech and an owner of a 19 wrx with 121,000 miles on it, if you maintain it properly and do not put modifications on without the proper accessories for it, it is a GREAT car. I have put far less money into this car than into my 2016 Golf GTI with 91,000 miles. No mechanical issues so far, besides small things which every car should have done at 100k miles. 10/10 WOULD RECCOMEND

How much does the 2019 Subaru WRX STI cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $26,451 |
| Year-Round Low | $25,535.81 |
| Year-Round High | $28,142.19 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $28,143 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −6.01% |
Prices have softened 6.01% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 331 listings available, which suggests a workable amount of inventory to compare.
If you find a listing below $25,535.81, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2019 Subaru WRX STI a good car?
Yes — the 5/5 user rating points to strong owner satisfaction, and the model’s rally-inspired performance sedan formula gives you serious speed with everyday usefulness. The standard all-wheel drive broadens its capability, while the overview frames it as a car that feels special on back roads or at a track day. It is best suited to you if you want an enthusiast-first car that still works as a practical daily driver. 29.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2019 Subaru WRX STI reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The overview also makes clear that this is a demanding ownership proposition: it is not cheap to buy or maintain, and many examples have been heavily used, abused, or modified. For used buyers, the biggest long-term risk is ending up with a car that has been driven hard or neglected, so condition matters as much as mileage.
What should I look for when buying a used 2019 Subaru WRX STI?
At 68.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a full vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection from a shop that knows performance cars. Focus on signs of modification, abuse, and deferred maintenance, since the overview warns that many examples have been heavily used or neglected. Pay close attention to overall condition, because a clean, well-kept car is likely to be a much better ownership experience than a cheaper but questionable one.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2019 Subaru WRX STI?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully without expecting deep discounts everywhere.
- Deal availability: 29.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 331 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.01% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 68.9% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $25,535.81, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2019 Subaru WRX STI's resale value?
The current average of $26,451 sits slightly below last year's $28,143.
That price movement suggests the market has cooled a bit, which can help you buy more carefully now, but it also means future sellers may not see rapid appreciation from today’s average unless the car is especially clean. Because the overview says older versions are already steep and likely to rise as clean examples become rarer, well-kept cars should remain more desirable than rough ones. For you, that means condition and originality matter a lot if you want to protect resale value later.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2019 Subaru WRX STI or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2019 if:
- 29.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 68.9% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.01% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2020 if:
- At $30,856, the 2020 costs more than the current year's $26,451 average.
- It adds a more focused, old-school performance feel.
The bottom line: You should start with the 2019 if you want the better value and are willing to shop carefully for condition. If you are price-sensitive, the 2019 is the smarter path; if you want to spend more for a newer model year, the 2020 is the alternative to compare.
