CarGurus Analysis: 2019 Toyota Avalon
overall

Summary
With 269 currently listed for sale and an average price of $24,148.00, 32.7% of 2019 Toyota Avalons for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2019 Toyota Avalon 4.93 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.5 / 10.
61.7% of 2019 Avalon models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
Toyota redesigned the 2019 Toyota Avalon to appeal to a younger audience, and the result is a sedan that feels more modern and more engaging than its reputation might suggest. New tech, new looks, and more power help it stand out, while a longer wheelbase and a big power bump add to the sense that this generation was meant to be a fresh start. It also brings some new standard safety equipment, which strengthens its appeal for buyers looking for a well-rounded full-size sedan.
What makes the 2019 Toyota Avalon especially distinctive is the way it blends value and driving enjoyment. It is described as excellent value for money and fun to drive, which is not always the combination shoppers expect from a car in this class. At the same time, it is not without drawbacks: outdated technology remains a weakness, and all-wheel drive is not available. Some drivers also noted missing features such as auto wipers and cooled seats, which can make the car feel less complete than its strengths would otherwise suggest.

This is our second Toyota Avalon. We love the performance, comfort, gas mileage, technology, dependability. The car was a good value and after shopping for several months, felt like this one was right for us. It was in perfect shape. On the 400 mile trip home from the dealer, someone passing me gave me a thumbs up. It is a beautiful car.

Is the 2019 Toyota Avalon a good car?
Yes — the 2019 Toyota Avalon earns a 4.93/5 user rating and a 7.5/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 9/10.
Drivers consistently praise its smooth ride, comfort, and impressive performance, and they also call out its stylish design and strong technology. The trade-offs are familiar: outdated technology and the absence of all-wheel drive. That mix fits you well if you want a roomy full-size sedan that leans into comfort and value rather than chasing sporty handling.
Only 32.2% of listings are marked as good or great deals, so the best-priced examples may not linger long.
Is the 2019 Toyota Avalon reliable?
Owners rate it 4.93/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The user feedback points to a car that feels smooth, comfortable, and impressive in everyday use, which is the kind of experience buyers usually associate with dependable ownership. The expert evaluation also emphasizes that the Avalon is a lot of car for the money, with a powertrain and chassis setup that feel composed and comfortable rather than fragile or fussy. Toyota also includes a standard safety suite that adds to the sense that this is built for steady daily use.
For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about outright durability and more about whether the car’s missing features and older-feeling tech will still suit your needs over time.
What should I look for when buying a used 2019 Toyota Avalon?
At 62.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car is priced near the low end of the market. Focus on condition, prior repairs, and whether the equipment you care about is actually present on the specific car you’re considering. Because this model year mixes strong value with some feature omissions, it pays to verify the exact configuration before you commit.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base XLE includes 17-inch alloy wheels, auto LEDs, dual-zone automatic climate control, keyless entry and ignition, heated power seats with pleather upholstery, heated mirrors, and the standard tech and safety features. Higher trims add sportier styling, a sunroof, paddle shifters, microsuede seat panels, a head-up display, leather and wood trim, heated rear seats, a heated steering wheel, wireless phone charging, embedded navigation, and an upgraded JBL stereo.
- Powertrain: Every trim uses a 3.5-liter V6 with 301 hp and 267 lb-ft of torque, paired with an 8-speed transmission and front-wheel drive. The base XLE is rated at 26 mpg combined, while the rest of the lineup gives up 1 mpg on the highway and 1 mpg combined.
- Safety package: Standard equipment includes adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning with automatic braking and pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, auto high beams, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. The Advanced Safety package adds front and rear parking sensors, a 360-degree camera, and automatic braking for rear cross-traffic alert.
- Infotainment: The system uses a 9-inch touchscreen with pinch-and-zoom navigation, Apple CarPlay, Alexa support, Toyota Remote Connect compatibility, and a Wi-Fi hotspot for up to 5 devices. Android Auto is not included, and the system is built on a Linux-based architecture.
- Fuel efficiency: The base XLE returns 26 mpg combined, with 22 city and 32 highway. The rest of the lineup is rated 1 mpg lower combined and on the highway.
Which 2019 Toyota Avalon trim should I buy?
The 2019 Toyota Avalon is offered in 4 trim levels: XLE, XSE, Limited, Touring.
Here's the short version:
- Base trim: The XLE gives you the core Avalon experience, but it is the least expressive choice if you want the sportier styling, upgraded cabin materials, or extra convenience features found higher up the range.
- Sweet-spot trim: The XSE is the best middle-ground pick if you want a more distinctive look and a sportier feel without jumping all the way to the luxury-focused trims.
- Premium/top trim: The Limited is the best choice if you want the richest feature set, including leather and wood trim, heated rear seats, a heated steering wheel, wireless charging, navigation, and the upgraded JBL audio system.
- Off-road trim: The Touring is the most performance-oriented version, but its adaptive suspension, sport exhaust, and Sport+ mode are more about driving character than everyday value.
The standard safety package is a major reason to consider this model year, and the available Advanced Safety package adds useful parking and camera upgrades.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2019 Toyota Avalon?
The market looks selective rather than overheated, so you have room to shop carefully.
- Deal availability: 32.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 267 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 4.00% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 62.2% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $23,899.18, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2019 Toyota Avalon's resale value?
The current average of $24,277 sits slightly below last year's $25,289.
That softer pricing suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable entry point today. For a future seller, that also means resale value will depend heavily on condition, mileage, and how well the car’s equipment and history hold up over time. Listings that are accident-free and well maintained should be easier to move because shoppers still respond to the Avalon’s comfort, safety, and value story.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.93/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2019 Toyota Avalon safe?
The 2019 Toyota Avalon earns a Top Safety Pick+ rating from IIHS.
It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Should I buy a 2019 Toyota Avalon or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2019 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2019 if:
- 32.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 62.2% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 4.00% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.93/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2019 brings a redesigned body, more power, and new standard safety equipment.
Consider the 2020 if:
- At $28,255, the 2020 costs more than the current year's $24,277 average.
- It builds on the 2019 redesign with a refreshed platform and a more future-focused direction.
The bottom line: If you want the better value play, the 2019 is the smarter buy because it combines a lower average price with strong satisfaction and a compelling safety package. If you’re willing to spend more for the next model year’s higher asking price, the 2020 is the path to consider.
