Why it stands out
The 2020 BMW M2 stands out as a compact rear-wheel-drive sports coupe that was built to prioritize driving enjoyment. It uses a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six engine tuned to deliver 405 hp and 406 lb-ft, and BMW paired that power with a standard six-speed manual transmission or an optional seven-speed automatic dual-clutch transmission. The result is a car that was properly quick, with a 0-60 time of 4.3 seconds with the manual or 4.1 seconds with the DCT, while still keeping the kind of enthusiast-focused character that made the M2 appealing in the first place.
BMW also gave the 2020 M2 the hardware expected of an M model. It came with big brakes, 19-inch wheels wearing Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires, a wider body, a rear-lip spoiler, quad exhaust tips, upgraded front seats, and carbon fiber trim. The chassis was stiffened for 2019, the suspension and electronic driver aids were retuned, and the brakes were upsized, all of which helped sharpen the car’s handling and roadholding. For 2020, BMW built a limited-edition M2 CS with 444 hp, M Adaptive suspension, and optional carbon ceramic brakes and Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires, which pushed the formula even further.
The 2020 model also had some useful everyday features, including BMW’s Driving Assistant safety suite with forward-collision warning, pedestrian warning with a city braking function, and lane-departure warning. On the downside, the ride could be stiff, and the car’s sporty setup was aimed more at enthusiasts than comfort-first buyers. Still, for shoppers who want a small coupe with strong performance, rear-wheel-drive balance, and a distinctly M-flavored personality, the 2020 BMW M2 is an appealing choice.

Aside from the aftermarket spoiler that was put on this car (just not my taste), the M2 was made for people who love to drive. Even without the manual gearbox, it checks almost every other box youd want in a great driving experience. Steering lacks a little bit of feel, but other than that its hard to beat the throttle response and sonorous music coming from under the hood.

How much does the 2020 BMW M2 cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $56,572 |
| Year-Round Low | $55,021 |
| Year-Round High | $67,186 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $67,299 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −15.94% |
Prices have softened 15.94% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 93 listings available, which suggests a modest but workable amount of inventory for shoppers.
Is the 2020 BMW M2 a good car?
Yes — the 2020 BMW M2 earns a 5/5 user rating, which points to strong owner satisfaction. The overview shows a compact rear-wheel-drive sports coupe built around driving enjoyment, with a turbocharged inline-six, a manual transmission option, and quick acceleration that should appeal most if you want an enthusiast-focused car rather than a comfort-first daily driver. It also includes useful everyday equipment such as BMW’s Driving Assistant safety suite, but the stiff ride and performance-first setup make it less suited to buyers who prioritize softness and space. With 45.2% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market still offers some attractive opportunities.
Is the 2020 BMW M2 reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The overview suggests a car engineered with serious performance hardware, including upgraded brakes, a stiffened chassis, and retuned suspension and driver aids. That kind of focused setup can be rewarding, but it also means you should expect a used example to have been driven hard or maintained with enthusiast-level attention. For long-term ownership, the main risk is buying a car whose performance parts, tires, brakes, or suspension have been neglected.
What should I look for when buying a used 2020 BMW M2?
At 73.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
You should start with a full vehicle history report so you can separate clean examples from cars with accident records. After that, prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on the brakes, suspension, tires, and signs of hard use, since this model is built for performance. Pay close attention to overall condition and maintenance quality, because a car like this is often more about how it was treated than how many miles are on it.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 BMW M2?
It looks like a buyer’s market if you’re shopping carefully and comparing listings.
- Deal availability: 45.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 93 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 15.94% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 73.1% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $55,021, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2020 BMW M2's resale value?
The current average of $56,572 sits slightly below last year's $67,299.
That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable entry point today. For a future seller, it also means resale value may depend heavily on condition, mileage, and how well the car has been maintained. Performance cars like this tend to reward clean history and strong presentation, especially when shoppers are comparing them against other enthusiast coupes.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Should I buy a 2020 BMW M2 or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2020 if:
- 45.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- At 73.1% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 15.94% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
Consider the 2021 if:
- It leans harder into track-tested fun while remaining a compact, driver-focused coupe.
The bottom line: The 2020 is the better primary pick if you want a strong mix of enthusiast appeal, current pricing softness, and decent deal availability. If you’re more price-sensitive, the 2020 still makes sense because the market has already moved down meaningfully, and you may be able to find a cleaner or better-priced example without giving up the core M2 experience.
