About 2020 Ferrari F8
The Ferrari F8 Spider is the latest in the brand’s storied history of droptop mid-engine supercars. It’s essentially an F8 Tributo made into a convertible, and it replaces last year’s 488 Spider for 2020. Design-wise, the F8 Spider is more evolutionary than revolutionary, looking like a zhuzhed-up version of its predecessor. Still, an attractive mix of scallops, creases, and curves gives the entire car a flowing, modern look, set off by gloss-black details. The roof is of the hard-top variety and folds into the rear bodywork inside of 14 seconds. At the back, the heritage twin-circle taillights peek out from a full-width spoiler. Inside, there’s a driver-focused dashboard not terribly different from the one in the previous 488 Spider, a narrow center tunnel, and a pair of heavily sculpted seats. Inside, there’s no space to speak of behind the rear seats. Beneath the trunk, or “frunk,” you’ll find just 7.06 cubic feet of space, about enough for an overnight bag. The centerpiece of any Ferrari is the engine, and here that comes in the form of a twin-turbocharged 3.9-liter V8 mounted behind the seats. Here, it develops 710 horsepower and 567 pound-feet, giving it a 49-hp boost over the 488 Spider and making it the most powerful V8 Ferrari ever produced. Thanks to a slick-shifting 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, rear-wheel drive (RWD), and launch control, the F8 Spider reaches 62 miles per hour from a standstill in just 2.9 seconds and reaches 211 mph. That said, this car isn’t just a speed demon; flicking through the drive mode selector lets you dial in specific amounts of fun and drama. Ferrari gives every F8 Spider standard items that include 20-inch wheels, magnetic front shocks, keyless entry, a 6-speaker Karman/Kardon sound system, navigation, 4-way power seats, leather upholstery, carbon fiber trim, automatic LED headlights, LED taillights, and an alarm system. You can then choose from a number of paint, interior, and finish options, including the color of the roof, carpet, and tachometer dial. There’s not much in the way of safety with the F8 Spider, given its mission in life, but you do get front and side airbags, stability control, and a rear-view camera. The passenger airbag can be switched off, in case you’re transporting small children in that seat. The F8 Spider is Ferrari’s maximal level of open-top enjoyment for a road-legal car.
