CarGurus Analysis: 2020 Lincoln Aviator
overall

Summary
With 902 currently listed for sale and an average price of $28,330, 32.2% of 2020 Lincoln Aviators for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2020 Lincoln Aviator 4.61 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it an 8.17 / 10.
80.7% of 2020 Aviator models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2020 Lincoln Aviator stands out as Lincoln’s return to a more focused luxury identity, with a stylish design and a comfortable cabin that aim to make it feel like a true premium SUV. It is a midsize, 3-row luxury SUV, and Lincoln positions it as a fresh, all-new entry built on the contemporary Explorer platform rather than a simple badge exercise. That combination gives it a distinctive place in the lineup: it is meant to be a luxury vehicle in its own right, not just a familiar utility vehicle with upscale trim.
Its appeal is strengthened by multiple powertrain options, which broaden its reach for buyers who want both luxury and flexibility. The Aviator also promises a smooth ride and advanced features, and owners frequently praise its luxurious feel, powerful performance, spacious interior, adaptive cruise control, and comfortable seating. At the same time, it is not without drawbacks: the ergonomic design is a weak point, the third row is cramped, and some drivers are unhappy with the automatic transmission’s shifting.

Great features. This is the highest level trim. Doing some research the reliability for 2020 Aviators is low. It appears that was the first year the car was sold. Decided to pursue a 2021 model.

We were delighted with the purchase of the Lincoln Aviator. We enjoy the large sunroof, seating for seven (heated and cooled seats in second row), and the adaptive cruise control. The vehicle helps steer itself and adjusts speeds not only when coming up on other vehicles, but changes the speed when speed limits change. Very comfortable ride and is very responsive with the twin turbo engine. It is a well designed vehicle!

With 30.9% of listings marked as good or great deals, there’s still room to shop selectively.
Is the 2020 Lincoln Aviator reliable?
Owners rate it 4.61/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience for many shoppers, with praise centered on comfort, performance, and the kind of luxury feel you can count on over time. The expert notes also emphasize smooth refinement and confident acceleration, which supports the impression of a well-sorted vehicle.
Lincoln also includes the first scheduled maintenance visit on the house, which helps reduce early ownership friction.
For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that a premium SUV can be more expensive to keep in top shape if prior maintenance was skipped.
What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Lincoln Aviator?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 81.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still check the history report carefully, because a clean listing percentage does not replace a vehicle-by-vehicle review. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially on a luxury SUV where repairs can be costly if wear items were neglected. Focus on cabin condition, seat wear, electronics, and how the transmission and ride feel on a test drive.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The Standard trim comes well-equipped with three-zone climate control, front and rear parking sensors, leather upholstery, heated front seats, Sync 3 with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a WiFi hotspot, four USB ports, and satellite radio. The Reserve adds second-row captain's chairs, 12-way power front seats, upgraded leather, a hands-free power liftgate, a Revel premium sound system, quad-zone climate control, a surround-view camera system, and navigation. The Grand Touring adds the plug-in hybrid drivetrain and can be optioned with a head-up display, wireless charging, 30-way massaging seats, and a 28-speaker Revel 3D premium sound system. The Black Label makes many of those upscale features standard and adds unique upholstery choices.
- Powertrain: The standard setup is a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 with 400 horsepower and 415 pound-feet of torque. The Grand Touring pairs that engine with a 100-hp electric motor, battery pack, and charging port for a net 494 hp and 630 lb-ft of torque. Both use a 10-speed automatic transmission, and the plug-in hybrid setup is the more fuel-conscious choice.
- Safety package: Lincoln Co-Pilot360 includes forward-collision avoidance, lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control, and automatic high beams. Blind-spot monitoring and a head-up display are also included. Some driver-assistance features are optional on the Reserve, so check equipment carefully if those matter to you.
- Infotainment: The Aviator uses a 10.1-inch touchscreen with Sync 3, plus Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It also offers a fully digital instrument panel, and some versions include a head-up display.
- Fuel efficiency: The conventionally powered Aviator with RWD returns 18 mpg city, 26 highway, and 21 combined. With AWD, it returns 17 city, 24 highway, and 20 combined. The plug-in hybrid returns 23 mpg combined, 56 miles per gallon equivalent combined, and 21 miles of electric-only range.
Which 2020 Lincoln Aviator trim should I buy?
The 2020 Lincoln Aviator is offered in 5 trim levels: Standard, Reserve, Grand Touring, Black Label, and Black Label Grand Touring.
Here's the short version:
- Standard: This is the best-value trim because it already gives you a strong luxury feature set, including leather upholstery, heated front seats, three-zone climate control, parking sensors, Sync 3 with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a WiFi hotspot. If you want the core Aviator experience without pushing deep into luxury pricing, this is the trim to start with.
- Reserve: This trim adds a more upscale cabin with second-row captain's chairs, upgraded leather, a hands-free power liftgate, a Revel premium sound system, quad-zone climate control, a surround-view camera system, and navigation. It makes sense if you want a more premium feel and more convenience features.
- Grand Touring: This is the pick if you want the plug-in hybrid drivetrain and the strongest performance numbers. It also brings a more fully loaded feel, and the available head-up display, massaging seats, and 28-speaker audio system make it especially appealing if you want near-top-tier luxury without going all the way to Black Label.
- Black Label: This is the most luxurious gas-oriented choice, with many of the upgraded seats and audio features made standard, plus unique upholstery choices and nearly every feature available as standard equipment. It suits you if you want the richest cabin presentation.
- Black Label Grand Touring: This combines the Black Label luxury treatment with the plug-in hybrid drivetrain, so it is the most complete and most expensive version if you want maximum equipment and electrified performance.
Lincoln Co-Pilot360 is standard, but some additional driver-assistance features are optional on the Reserve.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Lincoln Aviator?
This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop with some leverage if you stay disciplined.
- Deal availability: 30.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 879 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 11.71% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 81.1% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $28,372.62, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2020 Lincoln Aviator's resale value?
The current average of $28,396 sits slightly below last year's $32,160.
That price movement suggests the Aviator has already absorbed a meaningful amount of depreciation, which can help future sellers if they buy at the right price today. If you enter ownership near the lower end of the range, you may have less downside exposure later. Strong equipment, luxury appeal, and broad buyer interest can help support demand when it’s time to sell.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.61/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2020 Lincoln Aviator safe?
It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
Lincoln Co-Pilot360 includes forward-collision avoidance, lane-departure warning, adaptive cruise control, and automatic high beams. The Aviator also includes blind-spot monitoring, a full array of front and side-impact airbags, traction control, and a tire pressure monitoring system.
One caveat is that some driver-assistance features are optional on the Reserve, so you should confirm the exact equipment on any used example you’re considering.
Should I buy a 2020 Lincoln Aviator or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2020 if:
- 30.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 81.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 11.71% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.61/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2020 introduces Lincoln’s cohesive new luxury direction with a stylish, comfort-first three-row SUV.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $31,032, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $28,396 average.
- It adds a more polished luxury-car feel with modern technology and a premium cabin.
The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2020 is the smarter starting point because prices are softer and inventory is healthy. If you’re willing to pay more for a newer model-year alternative, the 2021 is the path to consider.
