Used 2020 Mercedes-Benz CLA for SaleNationwide

How much does the 2020 Mercedes-Benz CLA cost?

Prices have softened 13.05% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 396 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2020 Mercedes-Benz CLA a good car?

Generally — it earns a 4/5 user rating and a 7.7/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Look and feel at 10/10.

The 2020 CLA is positioned as a small luxury car that feels more upscale than budget-minded, and it was redesigned for 2020. That redesign gives you a four-door coupe shape that still works for commuters and first-time luxury buyers who want everyday usability with a more dramatic look.

The trade-offs are clear: the back seat is cramped, the headrests cannot be adjusted, and the lane-keep assist is overly aggressive. Even so, the car’s stylish design, great ride quality, and strong voice commands make it feel polished and easy to live with.

37.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which suggests there are worthwhile opportunities if you shop carefully.

Is the 2020 Mercedes-Benz CLA reliable?

Owners rate it 4/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The CLA is described as a more sophisticated vehicle than the one it replaced, and the test-drive notes emphasize a refined ride, precise cornering, and a powertrain that delivers strong performance for the class. The turbocharged 4-cylinder setup is paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic, and the car is praised for feeling athletic without sacrificing ride quality.

Mercedes also gives you advanced voice control through MBUX, which helps the cabin feel modern and easy to use. On the ownership side, the car’s higher positioning in the lineup means you should expect a more premium experience, but also pay attention to option content and upkeep costs over time.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that a well-equipped luxury car can become expensive to maintain if it has been heavily optioned or poorly cared for.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Mercedes-Benz CLA?

At 61.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and then prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the car has been in any collision or has a long option list. Pay close attention to the back seat, seat comfort, and driver-assistance behavior, since those are the areas where the CLA’s compromises are most obvious.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The CLA 250 comes with LED headlights, 18-inch wheels, a panoramic moonroof, push-button start, dual-zone climate control, sport bucket seats, and a 7-inch touchscreen with a center-console trackpad. The CLA 250 4Matic adds all-wheel drive, and the test notes suggest it as the best-value choice if you want the most balanced setup.
• Powertrain: The CLA 250 and CLA 250 4Matic use a turbocharged 4-cylinder engine with 221 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque, paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The front-wheel-drive version is rated at 25 mpg city, 35 highway, 28 combined, while the all-wheel-drive version is rated at 23 mpg city, 33 highway, 27 combined.
• Safety package: The driver-assistance package includes forward-collision avoidance, automatic high beams, and a driver-drowsiness monitor. The lane-keeping assist can be abrupt, and the available surround-view camera is a useful upgrade for parking.
• Infotainment: MBUX brings a touchscreen and trackpad controller, plus advanced voice control. The standard screen is 7 inches, and a larger 10.25-inch display was available on the test car. Wireless charging was also available.
• Fuel efficiency: The front-wheel-drive version is rated at 25 mpg city, 35 highway, 28 combined, while the all-wheel-drive version is rated at 23 mpg city, 33 highway, 27 combined.

Which 2020 Mercedes-Benz CLA trim should I buy?

The 2020 Mercedes-Benz CLA is offered in 4 trim levels: CLA 250, CLA 250 4Matic, AMG CLA 35 4Matic, AMG CLA 45 4Matic.

Here's the short version:

• CLA 250: This is the entry point, and it already gives you the CLA’s core appeal: the dramatic design, upscale cabin, standard LED headlights, panoramic moonroof, and MBUX infotainment. It makes sense if you want the lowest-cost way into the model.
• CLA 250 4Matic: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it keeps the same 221-horsepower turbocharged 4-cylinder while adding all-wheel drive. The test notes specifically point you toward this version if you want the most balanced mix of performance and everyday usability.
• AMG CLA 35 4Matic: This trim is for buyers who want a more performance-focused version of the CLA, based on the model’s sportier positioning and stronger powertrain lineup.
• AMG CLA 45 4Matic: This is the most performance-oriented version in the lineup and suits you if you want the most aggressive take on the CLA’s luxury-sport formula.

The safety package includes forward-collision avoidance, automatic high beams, and a driver-drowsiness monitor, while the lane-keeping assist can be abrupt.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Mercedes-Benz CLA?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it pays to compare listings carefully and move quickly on strong examples.

• Deal availability: 37.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 396 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.05% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 61.4% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $20,748, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Mercedes-Benz CLA's resale value?

The current average of $20,748 sits slightly below last year's $23,862.

That price drop suggests the CLA has already absorbed a meaningful amount of depreciation, which can help you as a buyer today. For a future seller, it means resale value will depend heavily on condition, mileage, and how well the car was optioned and maintained.

Because the market still shows decent inventory and a fair share of good deals, buyers have choices, which can keep pressure on resale pricing. A clean, well-kept example should still stand out more than one with accident history or a sparse feature set.

Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Mercedes-Benz CLA safe?

The 2020 Mercedes-Benz CLA does not have a crash-test rating cited here, but it does come with a full host of driver-assistance features and standard airbags.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

The driver-assistance package includes forward-collision avoidance, automatic high beams, and a driver-drowsiness monitor. Standard equipment also includes front- and side-impact airbags, a reversing camera, and traction control.

One important caveat is the lane-keeping assist behavior: if you drift toward a lane line, it can respond very abruptly by braking and jerking the wheel. That makes it worth testing carefully on your own drive.

Should I buy a 2020 Mercedes-Benz CLA or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 37.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 61.4% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.05% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• The 2020 redesign brings a more upscale cabin, stronger performance, and a more polished overall feel.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $23,526, the 2021 costs more than the current year's $20,748 average.
• The 2021 adds a more polished cabin with an advanced user interface.

The bottom line: If you want the better value, the 2020 is the smarter buy because it already delivers the redesigned CLA’s upscale look and feel at a lower average price. If you can stretch for a newer example and want the latest polish, the 2021 is the better secondary path.
