The expert write-up also emphasizes how well the 911 delivers its core mission with a polished, confidence-inspiring driving experience. Porsche also notes that the 911 has one of the strongest resale values in the industry, which reinforces the sense that buyers tend to stay committed to it over time.

For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is less about the car’s desirability and more about making sure you choose a well-kept example, since the purchase price and option content can vary a lot.

What should I look for when buying a used 2020 Porsche 911?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 91% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially because this is a high-value sports car where options and condition can materially affect what you’re getting. Focus on wear items, interior condition, and whether the car has the equipment you want, since the 911’s feature content can vary a lot by build. If you’re comparing listings, pay close attention to how much equipment is included versus how much you’d need to add later.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base car is light on luxury equipment, and the content makes clear that some everyday comforts are optional rather than standard. That means you should check closely for the features you care about before assuming a lower-priced example is well equipped.
• Powertrain: The 911 uses a 3.0-liter twin-turbo flat-six, with Carrera and Carrera 4 models rated at 379 horsepower and 331 pound-feet of torque, while Carrera S and Carrera 4S models rise to 443 horsepower and 390 pound-feet of torque. The eight-speed PDK is standard, and a seven-speed manual is available only on S and 4S models.
• Safety package: Forward emergency braking with pedestrian detection and front/rear parking sensors come standard. Lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control, and blind-spot monitoring are optional, so you should verify whether a given car has the driver-assistance features you want.
• Infotainment: Navigation comes standard, along with wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Porsche Connect, and onboard LTE WiFi. The system can also be paired with optional upgrades such as a Bose stereo and 360 cameras.
• Fuel efficiency: The rear-wheel-drive Carrera S with PDK is rated at 18 mpg city, 24 mpg highway, and 20 mpg combined.

Which 2020 Porsche 911 trim should I buy?

The 2020 Porsche 911 is offered in 4 trim levels: Carrera, Carrera 4, Carrera S, Carrera 4S.

Here's the short version:

• Carrera: This is the entry point, and it gives you the core 911 experience with the 379-horsepower twin-turbo flat-six and standard PDK. It makes sense if you want the most accessible way into the lineup, but you should expect a sparse base interior and check carefully for desirable options.
• Carrera 4: This adds all-wheel drive to the standard Carrera formula, which makes it the better pick if you want extra traction for less predictable weather. It suits buyers who want the 911 character with a bit more year-round confidence.
• Carrera S: This is the best-value choice for many shoppers because it brings the stronger 443-horsepower engine and unlocks the manual transmission. If you want the sweet spot between performance and driver involvement, this is the trim to target.
• Carrera 4S: This combines the stronger engine with all-wheel drive, making it the most versatile of the standard trims. It’s the right fit if you want the quickest all-weather version in this lineup and are willing to pay for it.

Lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control, and blind-spot monitoring remain optional, so check each listing for the safety package you want.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2020 Porsche 911?

This is a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 29.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 653 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.59% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 91.0% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $126,029, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2020 Porsche 911's resale value?

The current average of $127,745 sits slightly below last year's $131,148.

That kind of price movement suggests the market has cooled a bit, which can help you buy more confidently now if you plan to own the car for a while. For a future seller, the current softness means you should expect some depreciation pressure in the near term, especially if your car is lightly optioned or not especially clean. Even so, the 911’s desirability and strong market reputation help support long-term demand.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.78/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2020 Porsche 911 safe?

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Forward emergency braking with pedestrian detection and front/rear parking sensors come standard. Lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control, and blind-spot monitoring are optional, so you’ll want to confirm whether a specific used example has the driver-assistance features you want. The overview also notes that advanced safety features are not standard, which is the main caveat to keep in mind when shopping.

Should I buy a 2020 Porsche 911 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2020 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2020 if:

• 29.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 91% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 2.59% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.78/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2020 model year is highlighted for its eighth-generation 992 redesign, which keeps the car feeling current while preserving the classic 911 formula.

The bottom line: If you want the freshest-feeling version of this generation and you value the 2020 model year’s combination of strong owner satisfaction, softened pricing, and broad inventory, this is the one to target. If you’re more price-sensitive, keep shopping and compare listings carefully, because the market still gives you enough room to find a better-equipped or better-priced example.
