Used 2021 BMW 2 Series for SaleNationwide

How much does the 2021 BMW 2 Series cost?

Prices have softened 9.79% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 595 listings available, which suggests a modest but workable amount of inventory.

Is the 2021 BMW 2 Series a good car?

Yes — the 2021 BMW 2 Series earns a 5/5 user rating and a 6.33/10 expert rating. The model scores 8/10 across Performance, Technology, and Safety.

The 2021 BMW 2 Series is appealing if you want an entry-level BMW that emphasizes driving enjoyment and modern equipment. The overview highlights great handling and impressive technology, while the expert review reinforces that it feels fun and sophisticated from behind the wheel.

The trade-offs are just as clear: the seats are uncomfortable, the back seat is cramped, and value for money is weak. That means you should view it as a style-and-driving-choice first, especially if you care more about the experience than rear-seat space or bargain pricing.

The market shows 36.0% of listings as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2021 BMW 2 Series reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The 2021 BMW 2 Series is positioned as an approachable entry into BMW ownership, and the expert review backs up that it delivers the kind of driving character many shoppers want from the badge. The review also notes free scheduled maintenance for three years or 36,000 miles, which helps reduce early ownership costs.

The performance write-up describes the car as lively, with a turbocharged four-cylinder, an eight-speed sport automatic transmission, and xDrive available for added traction. That combination suggests a car that should feel capable and well sorted in everyday use.

For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that a sporty premium small car can become expensive if prior owners skipped maintenance or if wear items were neglected.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 BMW 2 Series?

At 74.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.

You should start with a vehicle history report and confirm whether any prior damage was repaired properly. A pre-purchase inspection matters here, especially if you are considering a car with optional equipment or a higher-mileage example. Focus on overall condition, because this model’s appeal depends heavily on how well it has been maintained and equipped.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The 2 Series Gran Coupe is offered in 228i and M235i model series, and the 228i can be had with xDrive while xDrive is standard on the M235i. The 228i is the more affordable entry point, while the M235i adds more standard equipment and a stronger performance focus.
• Powertrain: The 228i uses a 228-hp turbocharged four-cylinder with an eight-speed sport automatic transmission, and xDrive is available for added traction. The setup is quick and responsive, and the review notes that the car feels lively in Sport mode.
• Safety package: The Active Driving Assistant umbrella includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, active blind-spot warning with intervention, and a speed limit information system. A separate Driving Assistance Package adds adaptive cruise control and a parking-assistant feature, but it was not on the test car.
• Infotainment: BMW’s iDrive 7.0 system uses an 8.8-inch touchscreen, and the Premium Package adds Live Cockpit Pro with a fully digital 10.25-inch display. Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, over-the-air software updates, satellite radio, navigation, and connected services are included.
• Fuel efficiency: The test car averaged 27.9 mpg, beating the EPA estimate of 27 mpg in combined driving.

Which 2021 BMW 2 Series trim should I buy?

The 2021 BMW 2 Series is offered in 2 trim levels: 228i and M235i.

Here's the short version:

• 228i: This is the best-value choice if you want the entry point into the lineup without paying for the more performance-focused model. It still gives you the core BMW experience, and the available xDrive system adds confidence if you drive in poor weather.
• M235i: Choose this if you want the stronger standard performance and the more complete equipment set. It suits you best if you care more about driving feel and standard capability than keeping the purchase price down.

The safety package note is important: the Driving Assistance Package adds adaptive cruise control and parking assistance, while the Active Driving Assistant suite covers the rest of the core driver aids.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 BMW 2 Series?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market.

• Deal availability: 36.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 595 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.79% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 74.8% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $21,371, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 BMW 2 Series's resale value?

The current average of $21,371 sits slightly below last year's $23,690.

That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy at a more favorable point. For a future seller, it also means you should expect resale value to depend heavily on condition, mileage, and equipment rather than on broad market momentum alone.

Because this model has a premium badge and strong enthusiast appeal, well-kept examples should remain easier to move than neglected ones. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 BMW 2 Series safe?

The 2021 BMW 2 Series misses earning a Top Safety Pick due to headlights that rate either Poor or Marginal, and the vehicle-to-pedestrian test also results in a less than perfect rating.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

BMW groups its driver-assistance features under the Active Driving Assistant umbrella, which includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, active blind-spot warning with intervention, and a speed limit information system. A separate Driving Assistance Package adds adaptive cruise control and a parking-assistant feature that steers the car into a space while you operate the pedals and transmission.

The main caveat is that the available safety tech is strong, but the crash-test and headlight results keep it from being a class leader.

Should I buy a 2021 BMW 2 Series or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 36.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• At 74.8% accident-free, a meaningful share of listings has prior incidents — history verification is especially important.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 9.79% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It offers an affordable BMW entry point with fun handling and impressive technology.

Consider the 2020 if:

• At $22,870, the 2020 costs more than the current year's $21,371 average.
• It offers approachable luxury with standard advanced safety features and easy-to-use technology.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $25,283, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $21,371 average.
• It brings a redesigned look, larger proportions, and more performance.

The bottom line: If you want the best mix of price and current-market availability, the 2021 is the primary path to consider. If you are shopping strictly on budget, the 2021 still makes sense over the newer model years, while the 2020 is worth a look only if you find a cleaner or better-equipped example.
