Used 2021 BMW M3 for Sale nearPhoenix, AZ

How much does the 2021 BMW M3 cost?

Prices have held steady compared to this time last year, signaling a stable and predictable market for this model year.

There are 115 listings available, which suggests a fairly limited pool of used M3s to shop from.

Is the 2021 BMW M3 a good car?

It’s a strong choice if you want a luxury performance sedan that prioritizes driving excitement over comfort-first compromises. The expert rating is 6.67/10, and the user rating is 3.67/5.

The standout strength is Performance at 10/10.

The test-drive notes describe it as a car that can feel calm when you want it to and ferocious when you do not, with a powerful engine, a manual transmission available, and sharp responses that make it especially appealing if you want a genuinely engaging driver’s car. The trade-offs are clear, though: poor ride quality and poor fuel economy are part of the package, and cargo space is limited.

For shoppers who want a sedan that still works for everyday use but leans hard into speed and involvement, that balance is the point. The market also shows 34.8% of listings as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2021 BMW M3 reliable?

The 2021 BMW M3 is presented as a high-performance machine first, so you should think about reliability in the context of a car built around serious capability rather than low-stress commuting. The expert notes emphasize that it is engineered for strong engine, oil, turbocharger, and brake cooling, and that its performance hardware is meant to be used hard.

The performance notes also make clear that the car’s limits are best explored on a track, not on public roads, which is a useful reminder that this is a demanding vehicle to own and maintain. The cost-effectiveness notes reinforce that it is not about value or low running costs.

If you buy one used, long-term ownership risk is higher than average for a mainstream sedan because the car’s performance focus can translate into more expensive upkeep and a narrower margin for neglect.

What should I look for when buying a used 2021 BMW M3?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 76.5% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully, because a performance sedan like this can be more likely to have seen hard use than a typical commuter car. A thorough pre-purchase inspection matters, especially for signs of aggressive driving, wheel and tire wear, brake condition, and any evidence that the car has been modified or tracked. Focus on overall condition as much as mileage, since the way the car was driven may matter more than the odometer alone.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base car gives you the manual transmission and the core driver-focused setup, while the Competition model adds more power and an automatic transmission. If you want the best-value setup, the base version is the one to prioritize for manual-transmission shoppers.
• Powertrain: The standard car uses a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter inline six with 473 horsepower and 406 pound-feet of torque, while the Competition version raises output to 503 hp and 479 lb-ft and pairs it with an eight-speed automatic.
• Safety package: The standard driver-aid set includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic warning, drowsy-driver monitoring, post-crash braking, and BMW Assist eCall with SOS and automatic collision notification. The Driving Assistance Professional Package is only available on the Competition model.
• Infotainment: BMW’s iDrive 7.0 system includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and the interface is described as quick and easy to use. The test car also had gesture controls and a head-up display, though the gesture controls were hit-or-miss.
• Fuel efficiency: The base M3 returns 19 mpg in combined driving, and the expert notes call out poor fuel economy overall.

Which 2021 BMW M3 trim should I buy?

The 2021 BMW M3 is offered in 2 trim levels: M3 and M3 Competition.

Here's the short version:

• M3: This is the one to choose if you want the manual transmission and the purest driver involvement. It delivers the core M3 experience with strong power and the most engaging setup for shoppers who value control over outright convenience.
• M3 Competition: This is the better pick if you want the quickest version and prefer an automatic. It adds more power and stronger straight-line performance, and it’s the trim that can be paired with the available advanced driver-assistance package.

The safety-package upgrade is only available on the Competition trim, so that matters if you want the most advanced assistance features.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 BMW M3?

This looks like a moderate, selective-buyer market, so you can shop carefully without expecting a flood of bargains.

• Deal availability: 34.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 115 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 76.5% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $67,235, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 BMW M3's resale value?

The current average of $69,896 sits slightly below last year's $70,148.

That small decline suggests the market has been fairly stable rather than volatile. For a future seller, that can be a good sign because it points to predictable pricing instead of a sharp drop in value.

It also means your resale outcome will likely depend more on condition, mileage, and equipment than on broad market movement. Well-kept examples with desirable specs should remain easier to position than neglected or heavily modified cars.

Is the 2021 BMW M3 safe?

The 2021 BMW M3 comes with a solid set of driver aids, including forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assistance, blind-spot warning, rear cross-traffic warning, drowsy-driver monitoring, post-crash braking, and BMW Assist eCall with SOS and automatic collision notification.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

The available Driving Assistance Professional Package adds adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, extended traffic jam assistance, lane-centering assistance, evasive steering assistance, and emergency stop assistance, but it is only available on the Competition trim. The safety notes also say neither NHTSA nor IIHS has tested the sedan, so there are no crash-test ratings to lean on here.

Should I buy a 2021 BMW M3 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 34.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 76.5% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• The 2021 stands out for its manual-transmission availability and its especially engaging, performance-first character.

The bottom line: If you want the most driver-focused version of this generation and value the manual transmission, the 2021 is the right place to start. If you’re more price-sensitive, keep shopping the broader market and compare condition closely, because the best deal may come down to finding a cleaner example rather than chasing a different model year.
