Accident-free inventory is solid at 81.3% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a history report on any listing you like, even if it looks clean at first glance. Focus on overall condition, charging equipment, and signs that the vehicle has been used consistently rather than sitting unused for long stretches.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base SE trim gets an 8.0-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a built-in WiFi hotspot, while the XSE adds a 9.0-inch screen and available head-up display and video rearview mirror. The base trim is the value play if you want the core plug-in hybrid experience without paying for extras.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2021 Toyota RAV4 Prime?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 35.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 246 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.76% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 81.3% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $30,853, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2021 Toyota RAV4 Prime's resale value?

The current average of $31,926 sits slightly below last year's $33,173.

That softer pricing suggests the market has cooled a bit, which can help you buy more confidently now. For a future seller, it also means resale value may depend more on condition, mileage, and equipment than on broad market momentum.

Because the model still has strong demand from shoppers who want efficiency and performance together, well-kept examples should remain easier to move than less distinctive compact SUVs. Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.21/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2021 Toyota RAV4 Prime safe?

The 2021 Toyota RAV4 Prime comes standard with Toyota Safety Sense 2.0, plus blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and eight airbags.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

That standard suite includes a pre-collision system with pedestrian and cyclist detection, lane-departure alert with steering assist, lane-tracing assist, automatic high beams, and road-sign assist. The expert review notes that lane-tracing assist does not work as well as similar systems from other manufacturers, so that is worth keeping in mind if you rely heavily on driver assistance.

Other RAV4 versions earned a Top Safety Pick rating from IIHS, missing Top Safety Pick+ because of poorly rated headlights. Those same gasoline and hybrid RAV4 versions also earned a five-star overall rating from NHTSA, with four-star ratings in the driver’s side front and rollover crash tests.

Should I buy a 2021 Toyota RAV4 Prime or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2021 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2021 if:

• 35.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 81.3% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.76% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.21/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• It introduced the plug-in hybrid RAV4 formula with strong performance and standard advanced safety features.

Consider the 2022 if:

• At $35,347, the 2022 costs more than the current year's $31,926 average.
• It adds no major changes and keeps the same core appeal.

The bottom line: If you want the better value today, the 2021 is the smarter buy because pricing has eased and the model already delivers the key strengths you care about. If you are willing to spend more for a newer example, the 2022 is mainly a continuity play rather than a major upgrade, so price-sensitive buyers should focus on the 2021.
