Is the 2022 BMW M3 a good car?

Yes — the 2022 BMW M3 earns a 5/5 user rating, and its overview points to a high-performance sedan that still works for everyday use. You get a twin-turbocharged inline-six, a standard manual transmission, rear-wheel drive in the base setup, and the kind of usable sedan body style that makes it easier to live with than a more specialized sports car. Is the 2022 BMW M3 reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The overview suggests a car built to deliver serious performance while still serving as a practical sedan, which usually matters when you plan to keep a vehicle for a while. Its everyday usability, rear seat, and trunk space make it easier to live with than many performance cars. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is making sure prior use and maintenance history match the car’s performance-focused mission.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 BMW M3?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 84.5% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should prioritize a history report first, then focus on a thorough inspection of the car’s condition and maintenance records. Because this is a performance sedan, pay close attention to signs of hard use, uneven wear, and any issues that could affect how the car drives day to day. A careful pre-purchase inspection matters most when you want both speed and long-term livability.

If you find a listing below $71,607, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 BMW M3's resale value?

The current average of $73,582 sits slightly below last year's $76,498.

That price movement suggests the market has cooled a bit, which can help you buy more carefully now but may also limit short-term upside if you plan to resell soon. If you buy well and keep the car in strong condition, you can help protect value over time. Demand should remain supported by the model’s performance reputation and everyday usability.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Should I buy a 2022 BMW M3 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 31.5% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 84.5% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 3.81% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $69,896, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $73,582 average.
• It feels like a more raw, driver-focused performance sedan.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $82,290, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $73,582 average.
• It adds broader versatility with stronger premium appeal.

The bottom line: The 2022 is the best fit if you want the current-year balance of performance, practicality, and market value. If your priority is spending less, the 2021 is the smarter price-sensitive path. If you want to stretch for a newer-feeling premium performance package, the 2023 is the upgrade to compare.
