Used 2022 BMW M5 for Sale nearHonolulu, HI

Is the 2022 BMW M5 a good car?

Generally — you rate it 4/5, and the expert rating is 9.00/10. The model scores 10/10 across Look and feel and Performance.

The 2022 BMW M5 stands out because the lineup’s only update is the M5 CS, a carbon-fiber-heavy, track-ready version that pushes the car toward maximum speed and driver involvement. It brings 627 horsepower and a sub-3-second 0-to-60 mph time, and the expert writeup emphasizes its stylish design, fun-to-drive character, and great handling.

The trade-offs are familiar for a performance sedan: poor fuel economy and not much cargo space. It also does not offer a manual transmission, so if you want a more old-school setup, this is not the right fit.

With 36.0% of listings priced as good or great deals, you have some room to shop selectively.

Is the 2022 BMW M5 reliable?

Owners rate it 4/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.

The 2022 BMW M5 is presented as a high-performance sedan with advanced hardware and a strong focus on driver engagement, which usually means you should expect more complexity than in a mainstream sedan. The expert writeup also describes it as controlled and confidence-inspiring rather than unruly, which is a good sign for day-to-day usability.

The performance notes point to a well-developed powertrain with a twin-turbo V8, an eight-speed automatic, and M xDrive all-wheel drive, all of which suggest a thoroughly engineered package. The cost-effectiveness section also notes that the M5 CS is purpose-built and track-ready, which reinforces that this is a specialized machine rather than a simple commuter car.

If you buy used, your long-term ownership risk is mainly tied to high-performance complexity and the likelihood of expensive upkeep rather than basic durability concerns.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 BMW M5?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 85% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully, because a clean listing percentage does not replace a proper records review. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on wear items, brake condition, tire condition, and evidence of hard use, especially if the car has been driven aggressively. You should also pay close attention to whether the car matches the equipment level you want, since the M5 CS is much more focused than the standard M5.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The M5 CS is the standout version, with extensive carbon-fiber exterior pieces, a four-seat layout, M carbon racing seats, and a more focused cabin than other M5 variants. The base M5 and M5 Competition are less extreme and keep a more conventional five-seat setup, so the CS’s feature gaps matter if you want everyday practicality.
• Powertrain: The lineup uses a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 with an eight-speed M Steptronic automatic and rear-wheel-biased M xDrive all-wheel drive. The M5 CS is tuned to 627 horsepower and reaches 60 mph in 2.9 seconds, while the standard M5 makes 600 horsepower and hits 60 mph in 3.2 seconds.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, city collision mitigation, rear collision preparation, automatic high beams, and speed-limit information. Available upgrades add adaptive cruise control with stop and go, lane-keep assist with collision avoidance, evasion aid, front cross-traffic alert, emergency stop assistant, Extended Traffic Jam Assist, Parking Assistance Plus, active park distance control, drive recorder, and a 360-degree surround-view camera. The M5 CS gives up some of those conveniences and keeps a simpler camera setup.
• Infotainment: You get 12.3-inch digital displays, Live Cockpit Professional with iDrive 7, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, over-the-air updates, wireless charging, and a WiFi hotspot. The system also includes a head-up display, cloud-based navigation, and BMW’s Intelligent Personal Assistant.
• Fuel efficiency: The M5 is rated at 15 mpg city, 21 mpg highway, and 17 combined mpg. The expert writeup also notes that the M5 CS returned 17.3 mpg in mixed driving and 23.3 mpg on the highway.

Which 2022 BMW M5 trim should I buy?

The 2022 BMW M5 is offered in 3 trim levels: M5, M5 Competition, M5 CS.

Here's the short version:

• M5: This is the entry point, but it is still seriously quick with 600 horsepower, standard M xDrive all-wheel drive, and the full suite of infotainment and safety tech. It makes sense if you want the core M5 experience without paying for the most extreme version.
• M5 Competition: This trim adds a bit more output and a sharper tune than the base model, making it the best-value choice if you want more performance without jumping all the way to the CS. It keeps the same broad usability while moving the car closer to the top of the range.
• M5 CS: This is the one to buy if you want the most focused version. It gets 627 horsepower, a 2.9-second 0-to-60 mph time, carbon-ceramic brakes, lighter weight, and a more track-oriented cabin with four seats and M carbon racing seats.

The safety package is broad across the lineup, but the M5 CS trims back some convenience features in favor of weight savings and focus.

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, city collision mitigation, rear collision preparation, automatic high beams, and speed-limit information. Available driver-assistance upgrades add adaptive cruise control with stop and go, lane-keep assist with collision avoidance, evasion aid, front cross-traffic alert, emergency stop assistant, Extended Traffic Jam Assist, Parking Assistance Plus, active park distance control, drive recorder, and a 360-degree surround-view camera.

The M5 CS trims back some convenience-oriented safety equipment, including adaptive cruise control and the surround-view camera, so you should check carefully which features are present on any used example.

Should I buy a 2022 BMW M5 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 36.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 85% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Owners rate it 4/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
• The 2022 update centers on the M5 CS, a carbon-fiber-laden, track-ready version with 627 horsepower and a sub-3-second 0-to-60 mph time.

The bottom line: If you want the most extreme factory version of this generation, the 2022 is the year to target because the M5 CS makes it the most focused and engaging M5 in the lineup. If you are more price-sensitive, a nearby year may make more sense, but you should still prioritize condition, equipment, and maintenance history over chasing the newest badge.
