How much does the 2022 BMW X3 cost?

Prices have softened 10.93% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 3,286 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of inventory to compare.

Is the 2022 BMW X3 a good car?

Yes — the 2022 BMW X3 earns a 4.92/5 user rating and a 7.83/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Technology and Safety.

Drivers consistently praise its comfortable ride, stylish design, and high-quality features, and many also like the quiet performance and added safety equipment. In practical terms, that lines up well with the X3’s role as a spacious luxury compact crossover that feels well equipped and useful for everyday driving.

The main trade-offs are poor fuel economy and an underwhelming base engine, so you should expect the strongest appeal to come from shoppers who value refinement, features, and space over outright efficiency or excitement. Even so, the refreshed 2022 version adds meaningful updates without losing the X3’s broad appeal.

The market also looks reasonably healthy, with 37.9% of listings marked as good or great deals.

Is the 2022 BMW X3 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.92/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

User feedback points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience, with drivers highlighting the X3’s comfortable ride, quiet performance, and high-quality feel. The expert drive notes also describe it as a balanced package that should be easy to live with over time, especially if you value a premium crossover that feels solid and well sorted.

BMW also includes a broad set of standard safety and convenience features, which can help reduce day-to-day ownership stress. For used buyers, the biggest long-term risk is less about the core package and more about making sure the specific vehicle has been maintained properly and hasn’t been neglected.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 BMW X3?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 86.3% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a history report on any candidate, because a clean listing percentage does not replace a vehicle-by-vehicle check. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially on higher-mileage examples or vehicles with multiple owners. Focus on condition, maintenance records, tire wear, brake wear, and whether the electronics and driver-assistance features work as expected.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The X3 sDrive30i is the only rear-wheel-drive model, while the other trims are all-wheel drive. The M Sport Package adds a more aggressive look, larger front air intakes, a sportier rear bumper, a rear diffuser, and blacked-out exterior details, so base trims miss some of the visual and sporty hardware that higher-spec versions can bring.
• Powertrain: The sDrive30i and xDrive30i use a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with 248 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. The M40i steps up to a 3.0-liter turbocharged six-cylinder with 382 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque, plus a mild-hybrid system and a more engaging driving character.
• Safety package: Standard equipment includes adaptive LED headlights with automatic high beams, a rearview camera, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, active blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, rear collision avoidance, park distance control with auto braking, forward-collision warning with pedestrian/cyclist detection, and active pre-collision protection systems. The Driving Assistant Professional Package adds traffic jam assistance, back-up assistant, front cross-traffic alert, a 3D assisted view display, active lane-keep assist with lane centering, side collision avoidance, and Active Driving Assistant.
• Infotainment: Standard BMW Live Cockpit Plus includes a 10.25-inch infotainment screen, a 5.1-inch digital instrument display, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility, over-the-air updates, navigation, a 4G LTE WiFi hotspot, and connected services. An optional upgrade expands both screens to 12.3 inches.
• Fuel efficiency: The sDrive30i is rated at 23 mpg city, 29 mpg highway, and 25 mpg combined. The xDrive30i returns 21 mpg city, 28 mpg highway, and 24 mpg combined. The M40i is rated at 21 mpg city, 26 mpg highway, and 23 mpg combined.

Which 2022 BMW X3 trim should I buy?

The 2022 BMW X3 is offered in 4 trim levels: sDrive30i, xDrive30i, M40i, and M.

Here's the short version:

• sDrive30i: This is the entry point and the only rear-wheel-drive version. It gives you the core X3 experience with the standard tech and safety equipment, and it makes the most sense if you want the lowest starting price and don’t need AWD.
• xDrive30i: This is the best-value trim for most buyers because it adds all-wheel drive while keeping the same basic powertrain and a strong mix of comfort, technology, and safety. If you want the most balanced everyday X3, this is the one to focus on.
• M40i: This is the pick if you want the strongest performance and the most engaging drive. It adds the turbocharged six-cylinder, more standard equipment, and a more premium feel, but it also comes with a higher price and worse fuel economy.
• M: This is the performance-focused choice for shoppers who want the most aggressive version of the X3 lineup. The content points to a more specialized setup than the other trims, so it suits you best if driving excitement matters more than value.

The safety package is broad across the lineup, but the available driver-assistance upgrades add meaningful convenience and parking support if you want more than the standard equipment.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 BMW X3?

This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 37.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 3,286 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.93% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 86.3% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $28,629, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 BMW X3's resale value?

The current average of $28,629 sits slightly below last year's $32,143.

That decline suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy more confidently now but may also limit upside if you plan to resell soon. If you’re thinking about future trade-in value, the current pricing trend means the X3 is more of a value buy today than a strong short-term appreciation play.

Still, the model’s broad appeal, premium image, and strong owner satisfaction should help it remain desirable in the used market. Well-kept examples with the right equipment and clean history should hold up better than neglected ones.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.92/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 BMW X3 safe?

The 2022 BMW X3 earns a five-star crash safety rating from NHTSA, and the 2018 X3 was named a Top Safety Pick+ by IIHS.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Standard safety equipment includes adaptive LED headlights with automatic high beams, a rearview camera, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, active blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, rear collision avoidance, park distance control with auto braking, forward-collision warning with pedestrian/cyclist detection, and active pre-collision protection systems. The available Driving Assistant Professional Package adds traffic jam assistance, back-up assistant, front cross-traffic alert, a 3D assisted view display, active lane-keep assist with lane centering, side collision avoidance, and Active Driving Assistant.

Should I buy a 2022 BMW X3 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 37.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 86.3% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 10.93% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.92/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2022 refresh adds more technology, more safety equipment, and revised styling while keeping the X3’s practical, spacious character.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $24,084, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $28,629 average.
• It offers a spacious, well-rounded luxury crossover with strong tech and engaging driving manners.

The bottom line: If you want the newer refresh, stronger safety content, and better market availability, the 2022 is the better all-around choice. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2021 is the smarter value play, especially if you find one with the right equipment and a clean history.
