Used 2022 Ford Expedition for Sale nearRaleigh, NC

How much does the 2022 Ford Expedition cost?

Prices have softened 17.74% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 3,300 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2022 Ford Expedition a good car?

Yes — you’re looking at a 4.83/5 user-rated SUV with an expert rating of 7.5/10. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel and Form and function.

Owners consistently praise its towing capability, comfort on long trips, and spacious interior. They also describe it as a good value relative to other large SUVs, even if some feel the price is steep and the engine note is less appealing than a V-8.

That lines up with the Expedition’s use case as a big, well-equipped family SUV for hauling people, gear, and trailers. The main trade-offs are poor fuel economy, a busy ride, and occasional technical glitches.

With 33.8% of listings marked as good or great deals, you have room to shop selectively.

Is the 2022 Ford Expedition reliable?

Owners rate it 4.83/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction. Review feedback also points to a vehicle people feel good about living with over time, especially for towing, comfort, and roomy everyday use.

The expert evaluation reinforces that sense of dependability by highlighting the Expedition’s strong powertrain, huge cabin, and impressive technology. It also notes that the SUV is easy to park for its size and feels composed on the highway.

If you’re buying used, the main long-term ownership risk is that the same size, power, and tech that make it appealing can also bring higher running costs and more complexity.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Ford Expedition?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 83.2% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the report carefully, because a clean listing percentage does not replace a proper history review. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on the suspension, electronics, and any signs of heavy use, especially if the SUV was used for towing or family hauling. Condition matters a lot here because the Expedition’s appeal depends heavily on how well its comfort, tech, and drivability have held up.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup includes XL STX, XLT, Limited, King Ranch, Platinum, and Timberline. The base trims are more straightforward, while higher trims add more comfort and technology; the Timberline stands apart with standard 4WD, all-terrain tires, more ground clearance, a skid plate, and off-road-focused hardware.
• Powertrain: Every version uses a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 with a 10-speed automatic transmission, and some versions get a high-output tune. Fuel economy ranges from 17 mpg to 19 mpg in combined driving, and towing capacity runs from 9,000 pounds to 9,300 pounds depending on equipment.
• Safety package: Ford Co-Pilot360 is standard and includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, a driver monitoring system, automatic high-beam headlights, and a rear-seat reminder. Limited and above add Co-Pilot360 Assist+, while King Ranch and Platinum standardize Co-Pilot Assist 2.0.
• Infotainment: Standard Sync 4 uses a 12-inch touchscreen, while Sync 4A upgrades to a 15.5-inch portrait touchscreen. Both include wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, FordPass Connect with Wi-Fi hotspot access, natural voice recognition, and connected navigation; Sync 4A adds an upgraded voice-recognition system and personal driver profiles.
• Fuel efficiency: Fuel economy ranges from 17 mpg to 19 mpg in combined driving, and the test vehicle returned 16.2 mpg on the evaluation loop.

Which 2022 Ford Expedition trim should I buy?

The 2022 Ford Expedition is offered in 6 trim levels: XL STX, XLT, Limited, King Ranch, Platinum, and Timberline.

Here's the short version:

• XL STX: This is the entry point if you want the Expedition’s size and core capability without paying for extra luxury or tech. It makes sense if you mainly care about space, towing, and keeping the purchase price lower.
• XLT: This is the best-value choice for many shoppers because it moves you into the heart of the lineup without jumping too far in price. It’s the trim to target if you want a balanced mix of equipment and value.
• Limited: This is where the Expedition starts to feel notably more upscale, and it’s also the starting point for Co-Pilot360 Assist+. If you want a richer feature set and more advanced driver assistance, this is the trim to focus on.
• King Ranch: This trim adds a more premium feel and makes Co-Pilot Assist 2.0 standard. It suits you if you want a more luxurious Expedition with stronger standard safety tech.
• Platinum: This is the top luxury-oriented choice, and it also standardizes Co-Pilot Assist 2.0. Choose it if you want the most upscale version of the Expedition’s comfort and tech.
• Timberline: This is the one to buy if you want the most rugged Expedition. Its standard 4WD, all-terrain tires, added ground clearance, skid plate, and off-road tech make it the clear pick for buyers who want trail-ready hardware.

The safety-package progression matters here: Co-Pilot360 Assist+ starts with Limited, and Co-Pilot Assist 2.0 is standard on King Ranch and Platinum.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Ford Expedition?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.

• Deal availability: 33.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 3,300 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 17.74% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 83.2% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $39,461, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Ford Expedition's resale value?

The current average of $39,461 sits slightly below last year's $47,973.

That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you as a buyer today but may temper future resale upside. If you buy at the right price now, you reduce the risk of taking a bigger depreciation hit later. For a future seller, the key will be how well the vehicle holds up in condition, mileage, and equipment level.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.83/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Ford Expedition safe?

The 2022 Ford Expedition earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Ford Co-Pilot360 is standard, and it includes forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, a driver monitoring system, automatic high-beam headlights, and a rear-seat reminder. Starting with Limited, Co-Pilot360 Assist+ adds adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, lane-centering assist, speed-limit-sign recognition, intersection assist, and evasive steering assist. King Ranch and Platinum standardize Co-Pilot Assist 2.0, which adds a surround-view camera system, rear automatic emergency braking, and Active Park Assist 2.0.

The lane-centering system can be frustrating in heavier traffic and on curving roads, where it may issue unnecessary warnings or behave inconsistently. That means the Expedition’s safety tech is broad and useful, but not every advanced feature feels equally polished in real-world use.

Should I buy a 2022 Ford Expedition or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 33.8% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 83.2% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 17.74% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.83/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• The 2022 brings updated infotainment, stronger available driver-assistance tech, and the Timberline trim for buyers who want a more rugged setup.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $30,859, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $39,461 average.
• It is a practical, capable full-size SUV for towing, hauling, and carrying passengers.

The bottom line: If you want the better-equipped and more modern version, the 2022 is the stronger all-around pick, especially if you value updated tech and a broader trim range. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2021 is the smarter value play, provided you’re comfortable giving up some of the 2022’s updates.
