CarGurus Analysis: 2022 Honda Passport
overall

Summary
With 1,780 currently listed for sale and an average price of $30,005.00, 31.0% of 2022 Honda Passports for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2022 Honda Passport 5 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 6.33 / 10.
82.7% of 2022 Passport models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2022 Honda Passport stands out as a rugged-leaning two-row midsize SUV with a light restyle that gives it a fresher look. It is also the first Honda SUV to wear the TrailSport trim name, a move aimed at making the Passport more appealing to buyers who like outdoor adventure. For 2022, Honda also added revised wheel designs, fresh paint colors, and new safety features.
Beyond the updates, the Passport’s appeal comes from its everyday strengths. It is described as fun to drive, comfortable, and roomy enough to offer plenty of cargo space. The tradeoffs are worth noting, though: its infotainment technology is outdated, its advanced safety features are unrefined, and it does not earn top safety ratings.

All the features are awesome! Plus, I got a great deal on this vehicle! Nothing is missing from the SUV. This SUV is very similar to the Honda Pilot except for the third-row seating.

We love the Honda Passport for the amount of room inside & all the safety features it came with. I thought it was very comparible in price to the Ford Edge.

Reviewed a 2022 Honda TrailSport AWD on Nov 4, 2022
I had narrowed my search to 3 manufacturers and test drove one from each . Actually I drove two at Honda. The EXL and the Trail Sport. IMO there was definitely a different feel to the two trims. This is due to the wheel size I would imagine. The other models were the Mazda CX-5 and the Toyota Highlander. The Honda passport just has a heavier sturdier feel, more like a truck. Almost forgot, I also drove a loaner Subaru Ascent for a week. It was a nice vehicle. But still preferred the Passport. It just has a much sturdier feel to it. I am still learning all the accessories. This vehicle is impressively equipped. I can’t think of anything else I could want as far as features and accessories. Love my new SUV!

Yes — it earns a 5/5 user rating and a 6.33/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Form and function at 10/10.
The 2022 Passport is a rugged-leaning two-row midsize SUV with a light restyle, revised wheel designs, fresh paint colors, and new safety features. It is also aimed at buyers who want an SUV that feels more adventurous than a typical family crossover while still working well for daily use.
The trade-offs are clear: the infotainment technology is outdated, and the advanced safety features are less refined than many rivals. Even so, the Passport’s roomy cabin, comfortable ride, and useful cargo space make it a strong fit if you value practicality and a more outdoorsy personality.
29.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2022 Honda Passport reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The Passport’s appeal comes from its simple utility, robust drivetrain, roomy and comfortable cabin, and generous standard equipment. It is also described as appealing for buyers who do not care about having the latest technology, which can be a plus if you want a straightforward SUV experience.
Its powertrain is a 3.5-liter V6 paired with a nine-speed automatic, and the engine is described as smooth and stronger than its ratings suggest. The AWD system can send power where traction is needed, which supports confidence in everyday driving and light off-pavement use.
If you want a used Passport, long-term ownership risk is more about aging technology and refinement than basic durability.
What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Honda Passport?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 82.9% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still check the history report carefully, because accident-free listings are not the same as guaranteed problem-free vehicles. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you are considering a higher-mileage example or one that has seen rough use. Focus on overall condition, since this SUV’s value depends heavily on how well it has been maintained and whether its cabin, electronics, and driver-assist systems still feel fresh.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The lineup includes the base EX-L, the TrailSport, and the upscale Elite. The EX-L is the new base model and still comes with leather seats, while TrailSport adds orange contrast stitching, amber ambient lighting, embroidered front-seat headrest emblems, rubber all-season floor mats, unique 18-inch wheels, a roof rack, and simulated skid plates. The Elite is the most fully equipped version.
- Powertrain: You get a 3.5-liter V6 with 280 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque, paired with a nine-speed automatic. FWD is limited to the EX-L, while TrailSport and Elite use AWD. The V6 is described as smooth and strong, and the AWD system can send up to 70 percent of power to a single rear wheel when needed.
- Safety package: Honda Sensing includes adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and lane-centering assist. The Passport also includes blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, automatic high-beam headlights, a rear-seat reminder, and a seatbelt reminder. The lane-maintenance features are less refined than you may want.
- Infotainment: Every trim gets an 8-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and satellite radio. TrailSport adds navigation, while Elite adds a 10-speaker premium sound system and HondaLink connected services with WiFi hotspot access. Wireless smartphone charging is standard.
- Fuel efficiency: The EPA rates it at 22 mpg combined with FWD and 21 mpg combined with AWD. In testing, the TrailSport averaged 21.3 mpg.
Which 2022 Honda Passport trim should I buy?
The 2022 Honda Passport is offered in 3 trim levels: EX-L, TrailSport, and Elite.
Here's the short version:
- EX-L: This is the value play if you want the lowest entry point and still want leather seats plus the core Passport experience. It is also the only trim with FWD, so it makes sense if you do not need AWD.
- TrailSport: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds the more adventurous look, standard AWD, and the off-pavement-oriented hardware and styling touches without jumping all the way to the top trim.
- Elite: Choose this if you want the most equipment, including the premium audio system and HondaLink connected services with WiFi hotspot access.
Honda Sensing is standard, but the lane-departure warning and lane-centering assist functions are less refined than you may prefer.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Honda Passport?
This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so it pays to compare listings carefully.
- Deal availability: 29.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,776 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.31% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 82.9% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $29,616.61, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2022 Honda Passport's resale value?
The current average of $29,878 sits slightly below last year's $31,892.
That price movement suggests the Passport has softened enough to create a better buying opportunity now, but it also means future sellers may need to price competitively to stand out. If you buy well today, you may have a better chance of preserving value later because you are starting from a lower entry point than last year’s average.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2022 Honda Passport safe?
It earns four-star ratings in frontal crash and rollover, and five-star ratings in all other NHTSA tests.
It earns a 4/10 safety score from our experts.
Honda Sensing is the standard driver-assistance suite, and it includes adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and lane-centering assist. The Passport also includes blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, automatic high-beam headlights, a rear-seat reminder, and a seatbelt reminder.
The main caveat is that the lane-departure warning and lane-centering assist functions are less refined than you may want, and the IIHS gives the Passport an Acceptable rating for front-passenger protection in a small overlap collision.
Should I buy a 2022 Honda Passport or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2022 if:
- 29.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 82.9% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.31% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2022 adds a light restyle, the new TrailSport trim name, revised wheel designs, fresh paint colors, and new safety features.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $24,809, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $29,878 average.
- It bridges outdoor adventure and daily life with a more rugged personality.
The bottom line: If you want the newer look, TrailSport trim, and stronger current-market inventory, the 2022 is the better all-around pick. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2021 is the smarter value play, especially if you can live without the 2022 updates.
