overall

Summary
With 483 currently listed for sale near Washington, DC and an average price of $21,096, 21.7% of 2022 Hyundai Tucsons for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2022 Hyundai Tucson 4.82 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it an 8.33 / 10.

Why it stands out
The 2022 Hyundai Tucson stands out for its redesigned shape and the extra room that comes with it. It is longer and wider than before, which gives it more cargo and passenger space. That larger footprint helps the Tucson feel more practical in the compact SUV class, especially for buyers who want a small SUV that does not feel cramped.
Inside, the Tucson’s appeal comes from its high-tech cabin and comfortable ride. Hyundai also gives it a competent engine lineup and standard advanced safety features, which add to its everyday usefulness. The overall package is aimed at shoppers who want a spacious, well-equipped SUV that makes a strong case for a test drive.
There are tradeoffs, though. The Tucson’s performance is described as fairly pedestrian, and the base engine is underwhelming. Even so, its comfort, space, and safety equipment make it a compelling choice for buyers who value practicality over excitement.

I love all the bells and whistles! The ability to set all your personal preferences-seat settings, heat/air,radio,phone,dash board view, and with your name! The blind spots are nice. It was a great deal with decent low mileage, limited AWD, I got more for my money. Fully covered with great warrantys

I LOVE this car! I researched and waited for the right one for months! I am so pleased with how smooth it drives and the fancy features! My know knock would be the lack of power. It doesn’t accelerate very quickly but I didn’t really expect it to. Overall I’m obsessed and can’t wait to drive it for many years to come

How much does the 2022 Hyundai Tucson cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $20,560 |
| Year-Round Low | $20,565.93 |
| Year-Round High | $22,677.11 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $22,680 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −9.34% |
Prices have softened 9.34% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
With 4,159 listings available, you have a healthy amount of inventory to compare across trims and conditions.
If you find a listing below $20,565.93, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2022 Hyundai Tucson a good car?
Yes — the 2022 Hyundai Tucson earns a 4.82/5 user rating and an 8.33/10 expert rating.
The model scores 9/10 across Cost effectiveness, Technology, and Safety.
Owners consistently praise the smooth ride, excellent safety features, and spacious, family-friendly cabin. The stylish design also comes through as a recurring strength, which helps the Tucson feel more polished than a basic compact SUV.
The main trade-offs are its fairly pedestrian performance and underwhelming base engine, so you should not expect quick acceleration. That said, the Tucson’s roomy packaging and comfortable ride make it a strong fit if you want an everyday SUV that prioritizes practicality over excitement.
With the Tucson positioned as a redesigned compact SUV that leans into space, comfort, and tech, it fits especially well if you value a well-rounded daily driver. The market also looks supportive, with 33.0% of listings marked as good or great deals.
Is the 2022 Hyundai Tucson reliable?
Owners rate it 4.82/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
User feedback points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience, with many owners expressing confidence in the SUV over the long term. That kind of praise matters when you’re shopping used, because it suggests the Tucson has earned trust beyond its feature list.
The expert evaluation also emphasizes Hyundai’s strong warranty coverage and complimentary maintenance, which can help reduce early ownership costs. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is making sure the specific vehicle you choose has been cared for properly, since condition and maintenance history still matter more than reputation alone.
What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Hyundai Tucson?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 83% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still run a history report on every candidate, even if the listing looks clean at first glance. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or one with incomplete service records. Focus on overall condition, because the Tucson’s appeal depends heavily on how well its cabin, tech, and safety equipment have been maintained.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base SE gets 17-inch wheels, while higher trims add features like roof rails, heated outside mirrors, and the option for a sunroof. The SEL with the Convenience Package moves up to 19-inch wheels and adds equipment that brings it closer to the upper trims.
- Powertrain: You can choose a 2.5-liter four-cylinder with 187 horsepower and 178 pound-feet of torque, or a turbocharged 1.6-liter hybrid with 226 total system horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. The gas engine is competent but uninspiring, while the hybrid is the more engaging choice.
- Safety package: Hyundai SmartSense includes forward collision-avoidance assist with pedestrian and cyclist detection, lane-keep assist, automatic high beams, driver attention monitor, rear occupant alert, speed limit assist, and leading vehicle departure alert. Higher trims can add blind-spot warning with collision avoidance assist, rear cross-traffic alert with collision avoidance assist, adaptive cruise control with stop and go, a surround-view camera system, and remote parking assist.
- Infotainment: Standard equipment includes an 8-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, HD Radio, and two USB ports. A 10.25-inch screen is available, but it requires a wired connection for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
- Fuel efficiency: The front-wheel-drive gas model is rated at 26 mpg city, 33 mpg highway, and 29 mpg combined. With AWD, it drops to 24 mpg city, 29 mpg highway, and 26 mpg combined. The hybrid returns 37 mpg city, 36 mpg highway, and 37 mpg combined, with the most efficient hybrid rated at 38 mpg city/highway/combined.
Which 2022 Hyundai Tucson trim should I buy?
The 2022 Hyundai Tucson is offered in 5 trim levels: SE, SEL, SEL with the Convenience Package, N-Line, and Limited.
Here's the short version:
- SE: This is the entry point, and it gives you the Tucson’s core strengths without much extra equipment. It makes sense if you want the lowest starting price and are comfortable with the simpler wheel and feature setup.
- SEL: This is the best-value trim for most shoppers because it adds meaningful convenience and tech upgrades, including satellite radio, Blue Link app compatibility, rear USB ports, rear air vents, and dual-zone automatic climate control.
- SEL with the Convenience Package: This is the smart step-up if you want more of the upper-trim experience without going all the way to the top. It adds 19-inch wheels and brings in several features that move the Tucson closer to the Limited.
- N-Line: Choose this if you want the sportier appearance and the unique wheel design mentioned in the equipment list. It also gets sport combination seats, which help it stand apart visually.
- Limited: This is the most upscale choice, with leather-trimmed seats and premium exterior touches. It suits you best if you want the most polished Tucson experience and are willing to pay for it.
The safety package is broad across the lineup, but some advanced driver-assistance features remain optional rather than standard on lower trims.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Hyundai Tucson?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you have room to shop carefully without waiting for a dramatic price drop.
- Deal availability: 33.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 4,159 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 9.34% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 83.0% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $20,565.93, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2022 Hyundai Tucson's resale value?
The current average of $20,560 sits slightly below last year's $22,680.
That price movement suggests the Tucson has already absorbed a meaningful amount of depreciation, which can help future resale stability if you buy at the right price. If you keep the vehicle in strong condition and maintain it well, you may be better positioned when it’s time to sell. The current market also shows enough demand and inventory turnover to support a reasonable exit later on.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.82/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2022 Hyundai Tucson safe?
It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.
The Tucson was not tested and rated by IIHS or NHTSA for this model year, so there are no crash-test results to cite here. Even so, Hyundai SmartSense gives you a strong standard safety foundation with forward collision-avoidance assist with pedestrian and cyclist detection, lane-keep assist, automatic high beams, driver attention monitor, rear occupant alert, speed limit assist, and leading vehicle departure alert.
You can also add a long list of advanced features, including blind-spot warning with collision avoidance assist, rear cross-traffic alert with collision avoidance assist, adaptive cruise control with stop and go, a surround-view camera system, parking collision avoidance assist, and remote parking assist. That breadth is a major strength, especially if you want a compact SUV that feels well equipped for daily driving.
Should I buy a 2022 Hyundai Tucson or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2022 if:
- 33.0% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 83% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 9.34% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.82/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The redesign brings more space, a high-tech cabin, and standard advanced safety features.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $17,504, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $20,560 average.
- It was the final model year of its generation, which makes it appealing if you want a well-equipped compact SUV at a lower price.
The bottom line: If you want the newer redesign, more space, and stronger tech-forward appeal, the 2022 is the better all-around pick. If your priority is saving money and you’re comfortable giving up the newer body and some of the added room, the 2021 is the value play.
