Why it stands out
The 2022 Lincoln Navigator stands out as Lincoln’s flagship model, and it brings a mix of design, comfort, and technology updates that help refresh the SUV’s appeal. Among large luxury SUVs, it distinguishes itself with classically elegant styling, robust towing capacity, and soothing comfort in all three rows of seats. Lincoln also made numerous changes for the 2022 model year to update the Navigator’s styling, comfort, technology, safety, and driving dynamics, and the result is a facelift that helps keep it competitive against newer rivals.
It also has clear strengths that matter to buyers looking for a full-size luxury SUV. The engine is powerful, the cabin is comfortable, and the technology is impressive. At the same time, the Navigator is not without drawbacks: its grille may not suit every taste, the interior chrome can feel excessive, and voice recognition needs fine-tuning.

Great vehicle for what you pay for. Powertrain wise this is the same thing as the expedition minus tuning. Interior and exterior are the glamorized update for those who care for the luxury. I myself have a family of 5. Wife + 3 under two. We were looking for something we can grow with while riding with performance and luxury. I originally dead set on a Grand Wagoneer however. The features on it are great but not practical for kids in the back as the hvac ventilation is atrocious and it feels very “plastic”. Then was the Cadillac Escalade which we adored however they don’t have any bottom anchors in the rear seats. In fact all of the GM lineup from the suburban to the Denali doesn’t have bottom anchors in the 3rd row. Also in the Lincoln the second row seats can lean forward allowing easier access in the rear without removing the car seat which none of the other full size SUV’s can offer. Just for these two features alone we are choosing it over the other two. —— Cadillac I feel has better quality interior material and feel. Also the l86 + 10 speed is an amazing power platform. Wagoneer has better tech features, lacks in many other areas and the new I6 hasn’t been ran enough to find its shortcomings. Lincoln has more creature comfort and a mix between the two. 3.5 ecoboost platform is tried and tested, excellent platform with growing aftermarket support. The 22+ get the facelift, newer tech and motor refresh. Again another reason why we’re choosing the Lincoln.

Seat comfort is off the charts in the Navigator! Massaging seats work great. ActiveGlide is a nice addition for sure.

Is the 2022 Lincoln Navigator a good car?
Yes — the 2022 Lincoln Navigator earns a 5/5 user rating and an 8.17/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Form and function at 10/10.
It stands out as Lincoln’s flagship model, with classically elegant styling, robust towing capacity, and soothing comfort in all three rows of seats. The 2022 update also refreshes the SUV’s styling, comfort, technology, safety, and driving dynamics, which helps it stay competitive against newer rivals.
The trade-offs are clear: the grille may not suit every taste, the interior chrome can feel excessive, and voice recognition needs fine-tuning. Even so, if you want a full-size luxury SUV that emphasizes comfort, presence, and capability, this one fits that brief well.
29.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2022 Lincoln Navigator reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The 2022 Navigator’s appeal is built around a powerful engine, a comfortable cabin, and a strong luxury focus. Its updated driving dynamics and technology also suggest Lincoln put real effort into improving the ownership experience for this model year.
The twin-turbo V6 delivers robust output, and the updated brake booster and adaptive suspension changes point to a more polished driving feel. The infotainment system also adds over-the-air update capability, which can help keep features current over time.
For used buyers, the main long-term risk is the complexity that comes with a large, highly equipped luxury SUV, so condition and maintenance history matter a lot.
What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Lincoln Navigator?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 83.6% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still check the history report carefully, because a clean listing percentage does not replace a proper records review. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on electronics, suspension behavior, and any signs of heavy use. You should also pay close attention to cabin condition, since luxury trim and technology are a big part of the Navigator’s appeal.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: Standard, Reserve, and Black Label are the trims explicitly identified for this model year. The base setup still brings the Navigator’s upscale design and technology, while higher trims add more luxury presentation and equipment.
- Powertrain: The Navigator uses a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 with a 10-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive. It delivers 440 horsepower and 510 pound-feet of torque, with towing capacity ranging between 8,100 pounds and 8,700 pounds depending on configuration.
- Safety package: New driver-assistance systems include Intersection Assist, Road Edge Detection, Active Park Assist 2.0, and ActiveGlide, and a surround-view camera system is newly standard. ActiveGlide is the hands-free highway system, while the other features add braking, steering, and parking support.
- Infotainment: The 2022 model gets a Sync 4 system with a 13.2-inch touchscreen, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and over-the-air update capability. The larger screen and added functionality are a meaningful step up from the prior setup.
- Fuel efficiency: The Navigator 4WD should return 18 mpg in combined driving, and the test vehicle averaged 18.6 mpg.
Which 2022 Lincoln Navigator trim should I buy?
The 2022 Lincoln Navigator is offered in 3 trim levels: Standard, Reserve, and Black Label.
Here's the short version:
- Standard: This is the entry point, but it still gives you the Navigator’s core strengths: full-size luxury presence, strong towing capability, and the updated tech and safety features that define the 2022 model year. It makes sense if you want the Navigator experience without chasing extras.
- Reserve: This is the best-value trim if you want a richer luxury experience without jumping all the way to the top. It should be the trim to focus on if you want more of the Navigator’s upscale feel while keeping the purchase more grounded.
- Black Label: This is the most indulgent version, and the review vehicle’s Central Park theme shows how far Lincoln can push the luxury presentation. Choose this if you want the most distinctive cabin and are willing to pay for the highest-spec experience.
The safety package includes Intersection Assist, Road Edge Detection, Active Park Assist 2.0, ActiveGlide, and a standard surround-view camera system.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Lincoln Navigator?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile opportunities.
- Deal availability: 29.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,085 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 13.98% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 83.6% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $49,230.74, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2022 Lincoln Navigator's resale value?
The current average of $49,205 sits slightly below last year's $57,201.
That price movement suggests the market has already adjusted downward, which can help you buy with less risk of immediate overpayment. For a future seller, the softer current pricing means resale upside may be more limited unless the vehicle is especially well kept or well equipped.
The Navigator still has strong appeal because it combines luxury, space, and capability in a way that many shoppers want. Well-maintained examples should continue to attract attention, especially if they present cleanly and have desirable equipment.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2022 Lincoln Navigator safe?
It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.
Several new driver assistance systems debut on the 2022 Lincoln Navigator. They include Intersection Assist, Road Edge Detection, Active Park Assist 2.0, and ActiveGlide. A surround-view camera system is also newly standard for the SUV.
ActiveGlide is Lincoln’s hands-free driving technology for approved highways, while Active Park Assist 2.0 can take over parallel and perpendicular parking. Intersection Assist adds automatic braking support in unsafe crossing situations, and Road Edge Detection can help steer the SUV away from the edge of the pavement.
The main caveat is that ActiveGlide still requires your attention at all times, and it disengages in tighter curves. That means the system is helpful, but it is not a substitute for active driving supervision.
Should I buy a 2022 Lincoln Navigator or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2022 if:
- 29.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 83.6% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 13.98% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2022 update refreshes styling, technology, safety, and driving dynamics.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $39,879, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $49,205 average.
- It emphasizes a quiet cabin and premium materials.
Consider the 2023 if:
- At $56,909, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $49,205 average.
- It adds spacious third-row comfort and strong family-travel appeal.
The bottom line: The 2022 is the best all-around choice if you want the refreshed Navigator experience with strong luxury, tech, and safety updates. If price is your top priority, the 2021 is the value play; if you want to spend more for a newer-year alternative, the 2023 is the next step up.
