How much does the 2022 Mazda CX-5 cost?

Prices have softened 4.60% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 3,164 listings available, which gives you a healthy amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2022 Mazda CX-5 a good car?

Yes — the 2022 Mazda CX-5 earns a 4.88/5 user rating and a 7.67/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Safety at 10/10.

Drivers consistently praise its affordability, smooth ride, and excellent safety features, and many also like the comfortable interior and strong turbocharged performance. The CX-5’s stylish design and fun-to-drive character help it feel more upscale than many mainstream rivals, and the overview points to a compact SUV that works well if you want a polished daily driver with family-friendly appeal. The main trade-offs are a cramped back seat, limited cargo space, and technology that can feel unintuitive. Even so, 36.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which suggests there are still attractive opportunities in the market.

Is the 2022 Mazda CX-5 reliable?

Owners rate it 4.88/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The user feedback points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience, with drivers highlighting the CX-5’s smooth ride, excellent safety, and overall satisfaction over time. The expert evaluation also emphasizes the SUV’s improved solidity, quieter cabin, and more composed ride, all of which support confidence in day-to-day use. Mazda’s standard connected-services trial and broad safety equipment add some ownership value, especially if you plan to keep the vehicle for several years. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about durability and more about living with the CX-5’s cramped rear seat and less intuitive tech.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Mazda CX-5?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 81.3% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still run a vehicle history report on any candidate, even if the listing looks clean. Prioritize a close inspection of the interior and cargo area, since the CX-5’s packaging is one of its known compromises. Also pay attention to how the technology operates in real use, because the interface can be frustrating if you rely on it heavily.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base CX-5 2.5 S is the value play if you want standard all-wheel drive and the core upscale look without stretching the budget. Higher trims add more comfort and convenience, and the Signature stands out with premium Nappa leather, real wood trim, body-color lower exterior trim, and the most luxurious cabin presentation.
• Powertrain: The CX-5 2.5 S uses a 2.5-liter four-cylinder with 187 horsepower and 186 pound-feet of torque, while the 2.5 Turbo delivers 256 hp and 320 pound-feet on premium gas, or 227 hp and 310 lb-ft on regular gas. Both use a revised six-speed automatic and standard all-wheel drive, and the turbo version trades efficiency for stronger acceleration.
• Safety package: The standard i-Activsense suite includes adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. Adaptive headlights are added on the 2.5 S Premium, while the Signature adds a surround-view camera system, front and rear parking sensors, automatic rear braking, a driver monitoring system, and Traffic Jam Assist.
• Infotainment: You get a 10.25-inch Mazda Connect display, standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, text-messaging support, E911 automatic emergency notification, and Mazda Connected Services. The system is not touch-sensing, and it does not have natural voice recognition, so usability matters here.
• Fuel efficiency: The 2.5 S returns 26 mpg in combined driving, while the 2.5 Turbo returns 24 mpg in combined driving.

Which 2022 Mazda CX-5 trim should I buy?

The 2022 Mazda CX-5 is offered in 8 trim levels: 2.5 S base, 2.5 S Select, 2.5 S Preferred, 2.5 S Carbon Edition, 2.5 S Premium, 2.5 S Premium Plus, 2.5 Turbo base, 2.5 Turbo Signature.

Here's the short version:

• 2.5 S base: This is the entry point if you want the CX-5’s standard all-wheel drive, upscale design, and core safety equipment at the lowest price. It makes the most sense if you care more about value than extra comfort or tech.
• 2.5 S Select: This is the first step up if you want a little more equipment without moving too far up the price ladder. It should suit you if you want a better-balanced daily driver than the base trim.
• 2.5 S Preferred: This is a sensible middle ground if you want more comfort and convenience while staying with the efficient non-turbo engine. It’s a good fit if you want a nicer-feeling CX-5 without paying for the top trims.
• 2.5 S Carbon Edition: This trim is for you if style matters and you want a more distinctive look. It adds a more expressive appearance while keeping the same basic mechanical setup.
• 2.5 S Premium: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds meaningful upgrades, including the 10-speaker Bose sound system and SiriusXM satellite radio. It also gets Mazda Intelligent Drive Select with Normal, Sport, and Off-Road settings.
• 2.5 S Premium Plus: Choose this if you want the most fully equipped non-turbo CX-5. It builds on the Premium trim and keeps the stronger feature set while staying below the turbo models.
• 2.5 Turbo base: Pick this if you want much stronger acceleration and are willing to give up some fuel efficiency. It mixes equipment from higher 2.5 S trims, so it’s the right choice if performance matters more than value.
• 2.5 Turbo Signature: This is the luxury-leaning choice, with the richest cabin materials and the most advanced safety tech. It’s the one to buy if you want the most premium CX-5 experience.

The 2.5 S Premium is the best-value trim for most buyers, while the Signature is the one to choose if you want the most upscale cabin and the fullest safety feature set.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Mazda CX-5?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, so you have room to shop carefully without waiting forever.

• Deal availability: 36.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 3,164 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.60% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 81.3% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $23,157, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Mazda CX-5's resale value?

The current average of $24,015 sits slightly below last year's $25,173.

That softer pricing suggests the CX-5 has already absorbed some depreciation, which can help future resale stability if you buy at the right price. If you purchase near the lower end of the current range, you may have a better chance of limiting your loss when it’s time to sell. The model’s premium feel, strong safety reputation, and broad shopper appeal should continue to support demand. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.88/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Mazda CX-5 safe?

The 2022 Mazda CX-5 earns a Top Safety Pick+ rating from IIHS.

It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.

The standard i-Activsense suite includes adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability, forward-collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. Higher trims add more protection, including adaptive headlights on the 2.5 S Premium and a surround-view camera system, front and rear parking sensors, automatic rear braking, a driver monitoring system, and Traffic Jam Assist on the Signature. The safety package is especially strong for the class, and the CX-5’s crash-test recognition reinforces that strength.

Should I buy a 2022 Mazda CX-5 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 36.4% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 81.3% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 4.60% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 4.88/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• Mazda’s premium push is backed by stronger ride quality, quieter cabin behavior, and a more polished driving feel.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $22,019, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $24,015 average.
• It offers strong value with updated tech and a practical, family-friendly setup.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $25,782, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $24,015 average.
• It’s largely a carryover with the same core strengths and a fresh paint option.

The bottom line: If you want the best mix of price, safety, and premium feel, the 2022 is the sweet spot. If your budget is tighter, the 2021 is the better value play, while the 2023 mainly makes sense if you specifically want the newer model year and are comfortable paying more for essentially the same formula.
