CarGurus Analysis: 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
overall

Summary
With 152 currently listed for sale near Washington, DC and an average price of $41,977.00, 30.9% of 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class models for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class 5 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it an 8.17 / 10.
94.1% of 2022 E-Class models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class stands out for offering a rare kind of luxury in a class of one, especially in Cabriolet form. Following a substantial refresh for the 2021 model year, the 2022 lineup changes little, which means it continues to lean on the polished character and upscale appeal that define the E-Class rather than chasing major reinvention.
For 2022, the most significant change is the cancellation of the AMG E63 and E63 S variants. The lineup also loses V8 engines, leaving turbocharged four-cylinder and six-cylinder power plants. At the same time, automatic high-beam headlights are standard on all 2022 E-Class models, a couple of paint colors are new, and rear USB charging ports are now standard on the coupe and convertible body styles. That mix makes the 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class appealing to buyers who want a refined luxury car with useful standard equipment, though shoppers looking for the most powerful versions will find those options gone.

The E-class is the midsize line of Mercedes cars, so it’s fine for all sizes except for very tall and large people. The new inline six cylinder is my favorite engine because it has plenty of power and is fuel efficient. Overall, the quality is here and has been for years.

The E-class Mercedes Is the midsize car segment, and is large enough for many people who are not over 6’ 6” or more than 380 pounds in my estimation. Quality is noticed in interior seating and fit and finish. The relatively new Inline six cylinder engine has enough power with above average fuel economy. Other engines are available in four cylinder and eight cylinder variants.

Great value. 39K with 14K miles and in great condition with premium package. Took it to the Mercedes dealer for inspection and they said it was in great shape (tires, brakes, belts, filters, oil, fluid level, electronics, and even spark plugs). The interior was in pristine condition and the exterior is just as perfect.

How much does the 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $39,806 |
| Year-Round Low | $39,841.69 |
| Year-Round High | $43,072.82 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $43,071 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −7.58% |
Prices have softened 7.58% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 1,044 listings available, which suggests you have a workable amount of inventory to compare.
If you find a listing below $39,841.69, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class a good car?
Yes — the 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class earns a 5/5 user rating and an 8.17/10 expert rating.
The standout strength is Safety at 10/10.
You’re looking at a luxury car that emphasizes polished character, upscale appeal, and broad body-style variety rather than a major reinvention. The 2022 lineup also keeps useful standard equipment in place, including automatic high-beam headlights, while the Cabriolet adds the kind of open-air appeal that makes this model stand out in its class.
32.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which gives you some room to shop selectively.
Is the 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The 2022 E-Class leans on a refined, well-developed formula after its substantial 2021 refresh, and the expert evaluation points to a polished luxury-car experience rather than a rushed redesign. Its turbocharged four-cylinder and six-cylinder powertrains, along with the mild-hybrid setup on higher-output versions, are presented as robust and efficient enough for the car’s mission.
Mercedes also builds in a lot of ownership-friendly hardware, including standard safety tech and a cabin that’s designed to feel special over time. If you’re buying used, the main long-term risk is paying for a complex luxury car without getting the right equipment, condition, or maintenance history to match.
What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 85% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still check the history report carefully, because a clean listing percentage does not replace a proper records review. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on condition, electronics, and any signs of heavy use or incomplete maintenance. On a car like this, the right equipment mix matters as much as mileage.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The lineup spans coupe, convertible, sedan, and station wagon body styles, and the base E350 sedan is the entry point. Higher-spec versions add the turbo 3.0-liter inline-six with EQ Boost, while AMG-tuned versions bring a more powerful setup and a more dramatic look and feel. The base E350 is the most stripped-back choice, so compare equipment carefully if you want the richer cabin presentation and stronger performance.
- Powertrain: You’ll find a turbocharged four-cylinder in E350 models and a turbo 3.0-liter inline-six with EQ Boost mild-hybrid technology in E450 versions. AMG E53 models use a more powerful version of that six-cylinder, with 429 horsepower and 384 pound-feet of torque, plus a nine-speed automatic and variable AWD.
- Safety package: Standard equipment includes forward collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. The Driver Assistance Package adds adaptive cruise control, Active Steering Assist, Active Lane Keeping Assist, Active Blind Spot Assist, Evasive Steering Assist, Active Emergency Stop Assist, and more, so check whether a used example has it.
- Infotainment: The cabin centers on two 12.3-inch screens, and MBUX includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. WiFi service, augmented reality navigation, and a head-up display are available, so verify which upgrades are fitted on the car you’re considering.
- Fuel efficiency: The EQ Boost mild-hybrid setup is designed to improve both power output and efficiency, but no MPG figure is stated here.
Which 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class trim should I buy?
The 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class is offered in 4 trim levels: E350, E450, AMG E53, AMG E53 Cabriolet.
Here's the short version:
- E350: This is the entry point if you want the E-Class experience with the turbocharged four-cylinder and the broad body-style choice. It makes the most sense if you care more about the luxury atmosphere than maximum performance.
- E450: This is the best-value trim if you want the stronger turbo 3.0-liter inline-six with EQ Boost and a more satisfying all-around balance. It gives you the richer powertrain without jumping all the way to AMG pricing.
- AMG E53: Choose this if you want the sharper AMG-tuned version with 429 horsepower, 384 pound-feet of torque, AMG Dynamic Select modes, and the performance-focused chassis tuning. It’s the right pick if driving engagement matters most.
- AMG E53 Cabriolet: This is the open-air version for you if you want the AMG character in the most distinctive body style. It suits buyers who want the most dramatic look and the top-down experience, even though it’s the priciest route.
Most other safety features are bundled into the extra-cost Driver Assistance Package, so it’s worth prioritizing if you want the fullest safety setup.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully without expecting every listing to be a bargain.
- Deal availability: 32.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,044 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 7.58% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 85.0% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $39,841.69, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class's resale value?
The current average of $39,806 sits slightly below last year's $43,071.
That price movement suggests the market has cooled enough to give you better entry pricing now than a year ago. For a future seller, that can mean less upside if you buy at the wrong point in the cycle, but it also means you may be starting from a more favorable purchase price than recent shoppers faced.
Because this model still carries strong desirability, especially in well-equipped form, condition and specification should matter a lot when you eventually resell. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class safe?
It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.
The E-Class comes with standard forward collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. The Cabriolet also adds pop-up rollbars for rollover protection, and Mercedes Pre Safe plus Pre Safe Sound are standard as well.
The Driver Assistance Package adds adaptive cruise control with Active Speed Limit Assist, Active Steering Assist, front automatic braking for cross traffic, Evasive Steering Assist, Active Lane Keeping Assist, Active Blind Spot Assist, Active Emergency Stop Assist, and Pre Safe Plus. That package is a major safety upgrade, so you should confirm whether a used example has it.
Should I buy a 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2022 if:
- 32.3% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 85% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 7.58% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2022 lineup adds standard automatic high-beam headlights and keeps the refreshed, polished E-Class formula intact.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $35,920, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $39,806 average.
- It offers broad versatility across body styles, engines, and equipment choices.
The bottom line: If you want the newer model-year pricing trend, stronger standard equipment, and the current-year market depth, the 2022 is the better default choice. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2021 is the smarter path, especially if you find one with the equipment you want.
