CarGurus Analysis: 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
overall

Summary
With 1,024 currently listed for sale and an average price of $40,512.00, 34.7% of 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class models for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class 5 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it an 8.17 / 10.
86.5% of 2022 E-Class models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class stands out for offering a rare kind of luxury in a class of one, especially in Cabriolet form. Following a substantial refresh for the 2021 model year, the 2022 lineup changes little, which means it continues to lean on the polished character and upscale appeal that define the E-Class rather than chasing major reinvention.
For 2022, the most significant change is the cancellation of the AMG E63 and E63 S variants. The lineup also loses V8 engines, leaving turbocharged four-cylinder and six-cylinder power plants. At the same time, automatic high-beam headlights are standard on all 2022 E-Class models, a couple of paint colors are new, and rear USB charging ports are now standard on the coupe and convertible body styles. That mix makes the 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class appealing to buyers who want a refined luxury car with useful standard equipment, though shoppers looking for the most powerful versions will find those options gone.

The E-class is the midsize line of Mercedes cars, so it’s fine for all sizes except for very tall and large people. The new inline six cylinder is my favorite engine because it has plenty of power and is fuel efficient. Overall, the quality is here and has been for years.

The E-class Mercedes Is the midsize car segment, and is large enough for many people who are not over 6’ 6” or more than 380 pounds in my estimation. Quality is noticed in interior seating and fit and finish. The relatively new Inline six cylinder engine has enough power with above average fuel economy. Other engines are available in four cylinder and eight cylinder variants.

Great value. 39K with 14K miles and in great condition with premium package. Took it to the Mercedes dealer for inspection and they said it was in great shape (tires, brakes, belts, filters, oil, fluid level, electronics, and even spark plugs). The interior was in pristine condition and the exterior is just as perfect.

See more price trendsHow much does the 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $40,152 |
| Year-Round Low | $40,191.64 |
| Year-Round High | $43,142.22 |

There are 1,044 listings available, which suggests you should have some room to compare prices and equipment.
If you find a listing below $40,191.64, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
Is the 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class a good car?
Yes — the 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class earns a 5/5 user rating and an 8.17/10 expert rating.
The standout strength is Safety at 10/10.
The overview points to a luxury vehicle that blends performance, comfort, and advanced technology, with multiple body styles and turbocharged four-cylinder and six-cylinder engines. It also highlights the E-Class Cabriolet’s four-adult seating, standard forward collision warning, and automatic emergency braking, which make it especially appealing if you want a premium convertible with real usability.
The market also shows 35.2% of listings as good or great deals, which gives you a decent chance to find a well-priced example.
Is the 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class reliable?
Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.
The overview emphasizes a broad mix of performance, comfort, and technology, while the expert notes point to a lineup that keeps the E-Class appealing after its 2021 refresh. The performance write-up also describes the AMG-tuned version as strong and composed, with robust response across the rev range and a drivetrain that balances power with efficiency through EQ Boost mild-hybrid technology.
Mercedes also builds in a practical ownership perk with the standard first scheduled maintenance visit included on some configurations, which helps soften early service costs. For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that a luxury model with complex tech and available performance hardware can be expensive to keep in top shape if prior maintenance was inconsistent.
What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 85.4% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still check the history report carefully, because a clean listing percentage does not replace a proper records review. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that covers electronics, suspension behavior, and any signs of hard use, especially if the car has performance or convertible equipment. Focus on condition, maintenance history, and whether the features you want are actually present on the specific car you’re considering.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The base setup is more restrained in appearance, while higher-spec versions add the richer visual treatment and luxury feel that make the E-Class stand out.
- Powertrain: The lineup uses turbocharged four-cylinder and six-cylinder engines, with EQ Boost mild-hybrid technology helping improve both power delivery and efficiency.
- Safety package: Standard equipment includes forward collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. Most other driver aids are bundled into the extra-cost Driver Assistance Package.
- Infotainment: The MBUX system uses dual 12.3-inch screens and supports Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, WiFi service, and an augmented reality navigation overlay.
- Fuel efficiency: The turbocharged engines are presented as a way to enhance fuel efficiency while maintaining strong performance.
Which 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class trim should I buy?
The 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class is offered in 4 trim levels: E350, E450, AMG E53, AMG E53 Cabriolet.
Here's the short version:
- Base trim: The E350 is the most restrained choice, and the overview suggests it lacks the richer visual presence and excitement of the higher-spec versions.
- Sweet-spot trim: The E450 is the best value if you want the core E-Class experience with the turbocharged inline-six, EQ Boost, and available all-wheel drive without stepping all the way up to AMG pricing.
- Premium/top trim: The AMG E53 Cabriolet adds the strongest luxury-and-tech presentation, plus the performance hardware that makes the car feel special.
- Off-road trim: The All-Terrain wagon is not the right pick for most daily drivers if you want the most conventional E-Class experience.
The safety package note is simple: many of the most advanced driver aids are not standard and are instead bundled into the Driver Assistance Package.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class?
This looks like a moderate buyer’s market, so you can shop selectively without expecting a fire sale.
- Deal availability: 35.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 1,044 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.81% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 85.4% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $40,191.64, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class's resale value?
The current average of $40,152 sits slightly below last year's $43,086.
That price movement suggests the market has cooled enough to give future buyers more leverage today, but it also means sellers may need to price carefully to stay competitive. If you buy well now and keep the car in strong condition, you may be better positioned later because the model still carries strong brand appeal and broad shopper interest. The biggest resale advantage will come from a clean history, desirable equipment, and documentation that shows the car was maintained properly.
Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class safe?
It earns a Top Safety Pick+ rating from IIHS and five-star ratings from NHTSA.
It earns a 10/10 safety score from our experts.
Standard safety equipment includes forward collision warning with pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, Mercedes Pre Safe, Pre Safe Sound, rain-sensing wipers with Magic Vision Control, a surround-view camera system, and Active Parking Assist on the AMG E53. The Driver Assistance Package adds adaptive cruise control with Active Speed Limit Assist, Active Steering Assist, front automatic braking for cross traffic, Evasive Steering Assist, Active Lane Keeping Assist, Active Blind Spot Assist, Active Emergency Stop Assist, and Pre Safe Plus.
The expert notes also call out the package as especially strong in practice, with adaptive cruise control and lane-centering assistance standing out. If you’re shopping used, make sure the specific car you’re considering actually has the driver-assistance package, because many of the most advanced features are not standard.
Should I buy a 2022 Mercedes-Benz E-Class or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2022 if:
- 35.2% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 85.4% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 6.81% compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
- The 2022 lineup keeps the refreshed design, turbocharged engines, and standard high-beam headlights while dropping some V8 variants.
Consider the 2021 if:
- At $38,329, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $40,152 average.
- It brings a refreshed infotainment system and a broad range of body styles and powertrains.
The bottom line: If you want the newer market position, stronger safety story, and current-year inventory depth, the 2022 is the better default choice. If your priority is spending less up front, the 2021 is the smarter value play and still gives you much of the same core E-Class appeal.
