CarGurus Analysis: 2022 Subaru BRZ
overall

Summary
With 123 currently listed for sale and an average price of $26,926, 30.9% of 2022 Subaru BRZs for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2022 Subaru BRZ 4.29 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 7.67 / 10.
82.9% of 2022 BRZ models on CarGurus are accident free.
Why it stands out
The 2022 Subaru BRZ stands out because it goes against much of Subaru’s usual formula. Instead of all-wheel drive and turbocharged power, it is a two-door coupe with rear-wheel drive and a naturally aspirated engine, built to deliver a more satisfying driving experience. It also arrives with a restyled exterior, more power, and more tech features than before, while keeping the lineup simple with just Premium and Limited trim levels.
That combination makes the 2022 BRZ appealing to buyers who want a focused sports car that is fun to drive and easy to live with on the technology front. It also offers excellent value for money, which strengthens its case as an enthusiast car that does not feel overly complicated. The main drawback is practicality: the back seat is cramped, so this is best suited to drivers who care more about handling and engagement than passenger space.

The car's features: The infotainment is slow, and the audio quality is terrible. Loud enough or just enjoyable enough for a regular commute. It offers an amazing 6-speed manual, easy to clutch in and out. However getting from first to second gear are a bit difficult, and you have to hold the clutch a little bit longer before shifting to prevent shaking. This car is so fun to drive. I love how direct the steering is and how it feels, also doesn't have to be too heavy in parking lots. It also rides surprisingly well for what it is. This car is definitely a good value, literally the cheapest RWD car i could find brand new at the time of purchase with amazing lease deal. I couldn't even afford a Honda Civic Si, or a Hyundai Veloster N. This car is just missing practicality, honestly if rear seats have more foot room (not knee room), and a tiny bit higher ride height, maybe 5.3 inches of ground clearance instead of 5.1? It can survive better with a lot of uneven pavement I see here in Vancouver. It's just missing that bit of practicality where I might want to switch to a different vehicle and wished I had the Honda Civic SI. Also the fuel economy is really bad considering it's still a 4 cylinder engine, and requiring a recommended 93 octane with high insurance makes it difficult to own. I would not compare it to any other car except maybe the Mazda Miata, or Hyundai Veloster N. Those are very different cars due to no one making any sports cars anymore.

The BRZ is a fantastic, not too expensive, sports car. Lots of nice features. But most of all amazing handling and a comfortable ride.

The model I purchased is the top trim line with pretty much all features available. I expected it to have lane keeping rather than only lane departure warning, also assumed that an option called Starlink would include ability to program for remote garage door operation. Small items and would not have changed decision to buy. Car seems like it will be very satisfactory. Feels great.

Its incredible, sporty, fun, comfortable, quiet. Dont be fooled by back seat, there is only room for 2 passengers but its a great spot for a backpack or large purse.

How much does the 2022 Subaru BRZ cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $26,940 |
| Year-Round Low | $25,084 |
| Year-Round High | $27,018 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $27,055 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −0.42% |
Prices have held steady compared to this time last year, signaling a stable and predictable market for this model year.
There are 123 listings available, which gives you a modest amount of inventory to compare before you buy.
Is the 2022 Subaru BRZ a good car?
Generally — the 2022 Subaru BRZ earns a 4.29/5 user rating and a 7.67/10 expert rating, which points to a car that resonates strongly with shoppers who want a focused sports coupe. The model scores 9/10 across Performance and Cost effectiveness.
Owners consistently praise its sporty performance, fun driving experience, engaging handling, stylish design, and excellent value for money. In use, that lines up with the BRZ’s purpose as a lightweight, rear-wheel-drive coupe built for driver involvement rather than everyday practicality. The main trade-offs are a cramped back seat, a desire from some owners for more power, and some complaints about the audio system and seating comfort.
With 30.9% of listings marked as good or great deals, you still have room to shop selectively if you want the right combination of price and condition.
Is the 2022 Subaru BRZ reliable?
Owners rate it 4.29/5, a solid signal of long-term satisfaction.
The owner feedback also points to a car that feels reliable, dependable, and trouble-free enough to inspire confidence over time, especially for buyers who want a sports car they can count on. The expert evaluation reinforces that impression by describing the BRZ as a car that remains easy to live with while delivering a more forgiving ride and a quieter cabin than before. Subaru’s five-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty and three-year/36,000-mile basic warranty also help support ownership confidence.
For used buyers, the main long-term risk is less about outright durability and more about how the car was driven and maintained, since enthusiast ownership can be harder on wear items.
What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Subaru BRZ?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 82.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still run a history report on any car you’re considering, even if the market looks clean overall. A pre-purchase inspection matters here because sports cars are often driven harder than average, and you’ll want to confirm that the drivetrain, brakes, tires, and suspension all match the seller’s description. Focus on condition first, then compare equipment and transmission choice against how you plan to use the car.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The Premium trim gets 17-inch wheels with Michelin Primacy tires, while the Limited rides on 18-inch wheels with Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tires for more grip. The Limited also adds Ultrasuede upholstery with red accent stitching, dual-mode heaters, and a more upscale cabin feel, while the base trim keeps the setup simpler.
- Powertrain: You get a Subaru boxer-four engine with Toyota’s D-4S fuel-injection system, a 2.4-liter displacement, 228 horsepower, and 184 pound-feet of torque. A six-speed manual or six-speed automatic is available, and the automatic was retuned to downshift quicker and hold gears longer.
- Safety package: Subaru’s EyeSight driver-assist tech is standard only on automatic-transmission models and includes adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-sway warning, lead vehicle start alert, and automatic high beams. The Limited adds blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-keep assist, and steering responsive headlights, while automatic Limited models also get reverse automatic braking.
- Infotainment: You get a standard 8-inch touchscreen and digital gauge cluster, plus Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth connectivity, and SiriusXM satellite radio. The digital cluster also gives you access to sport mode and track mode.
- Fuel efficiency: EPA fuel-economy ratings are 25 mpg combined, 21 mpg city, and 30 mpg highway with the automatic, or 22 mpg combined, 20 mpg city, and 27 mpg highway with the manual.
Which 2022 Subaru BRZ trim should I buy?
The 2022 Subaru BRZ is offered in 2 trim levels: Premium and Limited.
Here's the short version:
- Premium: This is the value play if you want the BRZ experience at the lowest entry price. You still get the core sports-car formula, the 8-inch touchscreen, digital gauges, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and the same 228-horsepower engine, so it covers the essentials without pushing the budget too far.
- Limited: This is the best-value trim if you want the more complete version of the BRZ. It adds the grippier Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tires, Ultrasuede upholstery, dual-mode heaters, and more driver-assistance equipment, making it the better pick if you want the car to feel a little more polished and better equipped.
The Limited also gets the added safety-package content, while automatic Limited models gain reverse automatic braking.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Subaru BRZ?
This looks like a moderate market for selective buyers, so you can shop patiently but still move quickly when a strong listing appears.
- Deal availability: 30.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 123 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 82.1% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $25,084, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2022 Subaru BRZ's resale value?
The current average of $26,940 sits slightly below last year's $27,055.
That small decline suggests the BRZ has been holding its value fairly well rather than swinging sharply in either direction. For a future seller, that kind of stability is helpful because it makes pricing more predictable and reduces the risk of a sudden drop in market interest. The BRZ’s niche appeal also helps, since shoppers looking for a lightweight sports coupe tend to be more deliberate and less price-sensitive than average.
Vehicles with solid owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 4.29/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.
Is the 2022 Subaru BRZ safe?
The 2022 Subaru BRZ gets Subaru’s EyeSight driver-assist tech for the first time, albeit only on automatic-transmission models.
It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.
The standard EyeSight suite includes adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-sway warning, lead vehicle start alert, and automatic high beams. With either transmission, the BRZ Limited adds blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-keep assist, and steering responsive headlights, while automatic Limited models also get reverse automatic braking. The main caveat is that these features are not as broadly available on every trim and transmission combination, so you’ll want to confirm exactly what’s on the car you’re considering.
Should I buy a 2022 Subaru BRZ or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2022 if:
- 30.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 82.1% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
- Owners rate it 4.29/5 — a solid satisfaction signal.
- The 2022 model brings a restyled exterior, a more powerful 2.4-liter engine, and more tech features than the previous version.
The bottom line: If you want the BRZ with the stronger engine, updated tech, and a simple two-trim lineup, the 2022 is the right year to target. If you’re mainly shopping on price, you can still compare listings carefully and focus on the cleanest, best-maintained example rather than chasing the lowest sticker alone.
