Summary
With 514 currently listed for sale and an average price of $23,133, 34.4% of 2022 Toyota Priuses for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.

Why it stands out
The 2022 Toyota Prius stands out as a hybrid that built its reputation on efficiency, reliability, and everyday practicality. Toyota’s buying guide describes the Prius as the car that started the hybrid trend, and the fourth-generation model brought significant advancements in fuel efficiency, performance, and design. For 2022, it also benefits from the fourth generation’s improved handling and ride comfort, along with a more aerodynamic body that helped boost fuel economy.
Inside, the 2022 Toyota Prius is appealing because it combines useful equipment with a straightforward layout. The buying guide notes better materials, newer tech, and comfortable front seats, plus a touchscreen infotainment system and a rear-view camera. It also includes safety features such as adaptive cruise control and lane-keep assist. Buyers looking for more capability can also find all-wheel drive on models from 2019 onward, and the car’s reputation for reliability remains one of its biggest selling points.
There are tradeoffs, though. The buying guide says some models can achieve up to 56 combined mpg, but it also notes that hybrid components can raise repair costs and that some models lack power. Owner feedback for the 2022 model echoes that efficiency-first character, praising its fuel economy and comfortable ride while also describing it as somewhat sluggish, especially on inclines.

Reviewed a 2022 Toyota Prius on Jan 25, 2023
We rented a 2022 Prius base model for a week on Oahu. We really loved the short battery only driving and the phenomenal MPG’s. 175 miles required only 2.5 gallons of gas. 2022 was sluggish on the hills on Pali Hwy and Likelike why’s, but was able to easily maintain the speed limit when it arrived at that speed. Plus, we were totally impressed by never hearing the engine turn off or on as it switched from engine to battery and back! I asked the rental attendant if I could drive it home, I loved it so much! Great car that will just get better with the 2023 version with almost 200 HP and same MPG’s! Toyota has had a winner on their hands and continue to provide excellent products for us to drive!

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Toyota Prius?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 78.8% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should prioritize a history report first, then focus on a pre-purchase inspection that checks the hybrid system, brakes, tires, and overall maintenance records. Pay close attention to condition, because a Prius that has been used heavily for commuting may show wear even if it looks clean on paper. If possible, compare several listings so you can separate a well-kept example from one that only looks like a bargain.

Should I buy a 2022 Toyota Prius or consider a different year?

- Accident-free inventory is solid at 78.8% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices are up 2.01% year-over-year.

Consider the 2021 if:

Consider the 2023 if:
- At $27,967, the 2023 costs more than the current year's $23,099 average.

The bottom line: The 2022 is the best all-around choice if you want a balance of price, efficiency, and owner satisfaction. If your priority is spending less, the 2021 is the smarter value play. If you want a newer-feeling Prius and can stretch your budget, the 2023 is the upgrade path to consider.
