Used 2022 Volkswagen Atlas for Sale nearPhoenix, AZ

How much does the 2022 Volkswagen Atlas cost?

Prices have softened 13.46% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 3,289 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare.

Is the 2022 Volkswagen Atlas a good car?

Yes — the 2022 Volkswagen Atlas earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Form and function at 9/10.

The Atlas is built around passenger comfort, cargo space, and utility, so it makes the most sense if you want a roomy three-row SUV that is easy to understand and use. It is comfortable, has a spacious third row, and offers plenty of cargo space.

The trade-offs are clear: performance is fairly pedestrian, fuel economy is poor, and the interior materials feel cheap. Even so, the Atlas still fits shoppers who value everyday usefulness and space over polish.

Good and great deals account for 39.9% of listings, so you have a decent chance of finding a competitive offer.

Is the 2022 Volkswagen Atlas reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The Atlas is positioned as a practical, family-focused SUV, and its straightforward design supports that role. Volkswagen also includes Carefree Coverage, which gives you complimentary scheduled service for two years or 20,000 miles and roadside assistance for three years or 36,000 miles.

Its performance is described as adequate but not especially refined, and the cost-effectiveness notes point to a need for a more powerful or more efficient powertrain. For used buyers, the main long-term ownership risk is that the Atlas’s weak fuel economy and modest refinement may become more noticeable over time.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Volkswagen Atlas?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 84.6% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if the SUV has been used for family hauling or long trips. Focus on overall condition, because the Atlas’s interior materials and cabin wear can matter more than mileage alone.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The lineup includes SE, SE with Technology, SEL, SEL R-Line, SEL R-Line Black, and SEL Premium R-Line. The base SE is the most stripped-down version, with a tiny 6.5-inch touchscreen and the older infotainment setup, while higher trims add more upscale equipment and features.
• Powertrain: The standard turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder makes 235 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque, while the available 3.6-liter V6 makes 276 horsepower and 266 pound-feet of torque. The turbo four is more efficient, but it requires premium fuel for maximum output.
• Safety package: SE models include Front Assist, Side Assist, and Rear Traffic Alert. SE with Technology adds adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go plus front and rear parking sensors with low-speed automatic braking. SEL trims add the full IQ Drive suite, including Lane Assist, Travel Assist, and Emergency Assist, along with brighter LED headlights and adaptive front lighting.
• Infotainment: SE gets a 6.5-inch touchscreen, while other trims use an 8-inch system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless charging, and connected services. SEL trims add a 10.25-inch digital gauge display, and SEL Premium R-Line models get a 12-speaker Fender audio system.
• Fuel efficiency: The turbocharged four-cylinder returns 22 mpg to 23 mpg in combined driving, while the V6 returns 19 mpg to 20 mpg in combined driving.

Which 2022 Volkswagen Atlas trim should I buy?

The 2022 Volkswagen Atlas is offered in 6 trim levels: SE, SE with Technology, SEL, SEL R-Line, SEL R-Line Black, and SEL Premium R-Line.

Here's the short version:

• SE: This is the entry point, and it gives you the Atlas’s core space and utility at the lowest price. It also includes standard safety features like Front Assist, Side Assist, and Rear Traffic Alert, but its smaller 6.5-inch touchscreen and older infotainment system make it the least polished choice.
• SE with Technology: This is the best-value trim for many shoppers because it adds adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, front and rear parking sensors with low-speed automatic braking, and the newer infotainment setup. If you want a smarter daily driver without jumping too far up the price ladder, this is the trim to target.
• SEL: This trim adds the full IQ Drive safety suite, a 10.25-inch digital cockpit display, a navigation system, and more advanced lighting. It is the right pick if you want the most complete mix of safety and tech without going all the way to the luxury-oriented upper trims.
• SEL R-Line: This trim brings the V6 engine as standard, so it is the choice if you want the stronger powertrain and are willing to accept its lower fuel economy and less refined character.
• SEL R-Line Black: This new-for-2022 trim adds the R-Line look with a darker appearance treatment, making it the style-focused choice in the lineup.
• SEL Premium R-Line: This is the most upscale version, with standard R-Line design elements, 21-inch wheels, a 12-speaker Fender audio system, and the most fully equipped feel overall.

The SEL trim gets the full collection of IQ Drive safety features, while lower trims do not.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Volkswagen Atlas?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory to shop carefully and enough price softness to create opportunities.

• Deal availability: 39.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 3,289 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.46% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 84.6% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $24,367, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Volkswagen Atlas's resale value?

The current average of $24,367 sits slightly below last year's $28,158.

That drop suggests the Atlas has already moved through a meaningful part of its depreciation curve, which can help future resale stability if you buy at the right price. If you keep the vehicle in good condition and avoid accident history, you may be better positioned when it is time to sell.

The Atlas’s practical appeal and family-friendly layout should continue to support demand among shoppers who need space. Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Volkswagen Atlas safe?

The 2022 Atlas does not earn a Top Safety Pick rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), and it gets four-star ratings for the driver and front passenger in frontal-impact tests from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

It earns a 7/10 safety score from our experts.

Volkswagen equips the Atlas with a strong list of driver-assistance features. SE models get Front Assist, Side Assist, and Rear Traffic Alert, while SE with Technology adds adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go plus front and rear parking sensors with low-speed automatic braking. SEL trims add Lane Assist, Travel Assist, Emergency Assist, brighter LED headlights with automatic high beams, and adaptive front lighting.

There are some caveats to keep in mind. Lane Assist can be overly sensitive to road markings, and the parking sensors can react too aggressively when the vehicle is heavily loaded.

Should I buy a 2022 Volkswagen Atlas or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2022 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2022 if:

• 39.9% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is solid at 84.6% — always verify the vehicle history report.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 13.46% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It keeps the roomy, family-focused layout and practical utility that define the Atlas.

Consider the 2021 if:

• At $20,947, the 2021 costs less than the current year's $24,367 average.
• It is a roomy three-row crossover with strong practicality and value.

The bottom line: If you want the newer model-year pricing trend, stronger market inventory, and the same core space-first formula, the 2022 is the better default choice. If your priority is saving money upfront, the 2021 is the more budget-friendly path and still delivers the Atlas’s main strengths.
