How much does the 2022 Volvo XC90 cost?

Prices have softened 24.72% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.

There are 1,602 listings available, which gives you a solid pool of inventory to compare.

Is the 2022 Volvo XC90 a good car?

Yes — the 2022 Volvo XC90 earns a 5/5 user rating and an 8.33/10 expert rating. The model scores 9/10 across Look and feel and Safety.

Owners consistently praise its spacious interior, impressive safety features, and luxurious family-SUV character. The user feedback also points to its hybrid technology and advanced handling as recurring strengths.

On the downside, the expert review calls out a cramped third row and sluggish touchscreen response. That means you’re getting a polished, upscale three-row SUV, but not the most practical or quickest-to-use cabin tech in the class.

With its stylish design, quiet cabin, and safety-first identity, it fits best if you want a premium family SUV that emphasizes comfort and atmosphere over maximum space or snappy infotainment. 36.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals, which suggests there are still worthwhile opportunities in the market.

Is the 2022 Volvo XC90 reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The owner feedback points to a dependable, trouble-free ownership experience, with praise centered on the XC90’s long-term appeal, safety, and family-friendly usability. The expert review also reinforces that sense of confidence by describing the XC90 as a vehicle that combines strong safety credentials with a polished, upscale feel.

Volvo’s Care by Volvo subscription includes maintenance, which can be a useful ownership perk if you’re comparing long-term running costs. For used buyers, the main risk is less about the XC90’s reputation and more about how well the specific vehicle has been maintained and equipped.

What should I look for when buying a used 2022 Volvo XC90?

Accident-free inventory is solid at 87.5% — always verify the vehicle history report.

You should still check the history report carefully, because a clean listing percentage does not replace a proper records review. Prioritize a pre-purchase inspection that focuses on the cabin electronics, touchscreen behavior, and overall interior condition. If you’re shopping a plug-in hybrid, make sure the charging system and battery-related functions work as expected.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The base Momentum trim starts the lineup, while higher trims add more luxury equipment and upscale finishes. The content also points to a leather-free interior option, but ventilated front seats require Nappa leather.
• Powertrain: You can choose from T5, T6, and T8 powertrains. The T5 uses a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder, the T6 adds supercharging, and the T8 plug-in hybrid adds electric power for stronger output and better efficiency.
• Safety package: Volvo’s Pilot Assist combines lane keeping, adaptive cruise control, and related driver-assistance functions. Standard safety equipment also includes blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, parking assist front and rear, slippery road alert, lane-keeping aid, oncoming lane mitigation, and road-sign recognition.
• Infotainment: The XC90 uses a nine-inch portrait touchscreen, a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel, wireless capability is not stated, and the system supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The interface can feel slow to respond.
• Fuel efficiency: T5 FWD models are rated at 21 mpg city/30 mpg highway/25 mpg combined, T5 AWD models at 20 mpg city/28 mpg highway/23 mpg combined, T6 AWD models at 19 mpg city/27 mpg highway/22 mpg combined, and the T8 plug-in hybrid reaches up to 66 MPGe with up to 36 miles of electric range.

Which 2022 Volvo XC90 trim should I buy?

The 2022 Volvo XC90 is offered in 7 trim levels: Momentum, T5 AWD Momentum, T6 AWD Momentum, T6 AWD Inscription, T8 Inscription Expression, T8 Inscription, T8 R-Design.

Here's the short version:

• Momentum: This is the entry point, and it makes the XC90’s core strengths accessible without pushing you into the highest price brackets. It’s the trim to start with if you want the XC90’s style, safety, and premium feel at the lowest cost.
• T5 AWD Momentum: This is the best-value choice if you want all-wheel drive without jumping to the more expensive six-cylinder or plug-in hybrid models. It keeps the XC90’s essential character while adding traction confidence.
• T6 AWD Momentum: Choose this if you want more power than the T5 and still prefer a relatively straightforward trim structure. It adds stronger performance while staying below the luxury-focused upper trims.
• T6 AWD Inscription: This is the step up if you want a more upscale cabin and a richer feature set. It suits you if comfort and presentation matter more than keeping the purchase price down.
• T8 Inscription Expression: This is the plug-in hybrid entry point, so it’s the trim to consider if electrification is a priority. It gives you access to the XC90’s efficiency-focused side without going straight to the most expensive versions.
• T8 Inscription: This is the better-equipped plug-in hybrid choice for buyers who want the XC90’s premium character and hybrid capability together. It’s a strong fit if you want the most balanced mix of luxury and efficiency.
• T8 R-Design: This is the most expressive trim in the lineup, aimed at buyers who want the plug-in hybrid powertrain with a sportier presentation. It makes sense if you want the top-end feel and are willing to pay for it.

The safety package is a major strength across the lineup, and Pilot Assist is one of the XC90’s standout standard driver-assistance systems.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2022 Volvo XC90?

This is a moderate market for selective buyers, with enough inventory to shop carefully and enough deal activity to find value.

• Deal availability: 36.6% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 1,602 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have softened 24.72% compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 87.5% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $29,489, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2022 Volvo XC90's resale value?

The current average of $29,489 sits slightly below last year's $39,173.

That price movement suggests the XC90 has already absorbed a meaningful amount of depreciation, which can help future sellers if the market stabilizes. If you buy at the right price now, you may have less downside left than a shopper who paid closer to the prior-year average.

The model’s premium image, strong safety reputation, and broad family appeal should help support demand over time. Well-kept examples with desirable equipment are likely to remain easier to move than neglected ones.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2022 Volvo XC90 safe?

The 2022 Volvo XC90 earns a Top Safety Pick+ designation from IIHS and a five-star overall safety rating from NHTSA.

It earns a 9/10 safety score from our experts.

Volvo equips the XC90 with blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, parking assist front and rear, rain-sensing wipers with integrated washers, slippery road alert, lane-keeping aid, adaptive cruise control, oncoming lane mitigation, and road-sign recognition. Pilot Assist combines several of those systems to help keep you centered in your lane and at a set speed or following distance on the highway.

That safety story is one of the XC90’s biggest strengths, and it aligns with the model’s family-focused mission. If safety is a top priority, this is one of the clearest reasons to put the XC90 on your shortlist.

Should I buy a 2022 Volvo XC90 or consider a different year?

• Price trend: Prices have softened 24.72% compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It pairs upscale design with strong safety and available plug-in hybrid efficiency.

Consider the 2021 if:

• It emphasizes safety-first luxury with modest updates.

Consider the 2023 if:
