About 2023 Cadillac XT4
The SUV is king of the American road these days, and automakers have adjusted their product offerings to accommodate the shift away from sedans and coupes. Iconic American brand Cadillac is no exception, as the automaker now has more premium SUVs in its catalog than sedans, including a stunning electric model. The brand’s entry-level XT4 SUV rolls into the 2023 model year unchanged, but it delivers a strong list of advanced tech and upscale features that make it an excellent value pick. Every XT4 comes with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that makes 235 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. Power hits the front or all four wheels through a nine-speed automatic transmission. At just shy of eight seconds from zero to 60 mph, acceleration is solid but not sporty, though Cadillac does offer a Sport variant that is available with adaptive suspension. The upgraded dampers greatly improve handling while helping the SUV maintain cushy ride quality in most situations. Synthetic leather upholstery comes standard, but Cadillac offers the real thing in top trims. The synthetic material feels nice, though, and it isn’t overly hot or sticky on long drives. Power-adjustable front seats with power lumbar and 60/40 folding rear seats are also standard. Though quiet and comfortable, the XT4’s cabin lacks the pizzazz of its more expensive Cadillac counterparts. It’s also less plush than and not as visually interesting as its German rivals from BMW, Audi, and Mercedes. Cadillac claims a five-person seating capacity for the XT4, but the back seat is too tight to be comfortable for three adults. The front seats offer 44.1 inches of legroom, but the back seat manages just 39.5 inches. Head room up front is 39.4 inches, and it’s 38.3 inches in the back. Cargo space is just ok, at 22.5 cubic feet behind the rear seat. When folded flat, however, the space opens up to 48.9 cubic feet—not great, but much better than the default. Tech is a bright spot in the XT4. It comes standard with an eight-inch touchscreen that runs wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Bluetooth, connected apps, SiriusXM radio, HD radio, and USB inputs are also included as standard. Cadillac offers a Bose Centerpoint surround-sound system as an optional upgrade. The 2023 XT4 hasn’t been crash tested yet, and the last model to receive a partial test was the 2021 XT4. It earned “Good” scores for moderate overlap front and side crash tests. Standard safety tech for 2023 includes front pedestrian braking, automatic emergency braking, LED daytime running lights, a rear parking assist system, an HD rearview camera, blind spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alerts, forward-collision warnings, safety alert seats, and a teen driver mode. An available driver-awareness package brings automatic high beam headlights, a following distance indicator system, and lane-keep assist with lane-departure warnings.
