overall

Summary
With 374 currently listed for sale and an average price of $34,064, 35.3% of 2023 Toyota Crowns for sale on CarGurus are rated as good or great deals.
Favorably reviewed: Owners rated the 2023 Toyota Crown 3.5 / 5 stars and CarGurus experts gave it a 6.33 / 10.

Why it stands out
The 2023 Toyota Crown stands out by finding a unique middle ground between large sedans and SUVs with its elevated ride. Toyota also gives it a striking design and fuel efficiency that is described as unbeatable, which helps make it appealing to a wide range of shoppers.
Its strengths are easy to see in everyday use: it is fuel-efficient, stylish, and comfortable. At the same time, buyers should not expect impressive performance or decadent luxury, and the Crown’s drawbacks include fairly pedestrian performance, not much cargo space, and interior materials that feel cheap.

Reviewed a 2023 Toyota Crown on May 29, 2023
I did driving Crown Platinum test several times and each time was disappointed. Limited head and shoulder room in comparison with my Avalon Limited 2011. More stiff suspension. During the last test the Crown Platinum had a permanent warning about the hybrid system mulfunction and check engine. And it was on a brand new car that had only 2 miles on the odometer. The dealer was not honest and told me that is normal. Very disappointed.

How much does the 2023 Toyota Crown cost?
| Metric | Value |
|---|---|
| Current Average Price | $34,027 |
| Year-Round Low | $32,933 |
| Year-Round High | $34,500 |
| Average Price a Year Ago | $34,494 |
| Change vs. Last Year | −1.35% |
Prices have softened 1.35% compared to this time last year, making it a favorable time to shop this model year.
There are 377 listings available, which suggests you should have some room to compare prices and equipment.
Is the 2023 Toyota Crown a good car?
The 2023 Toyota Crown is a mixed but appealing choice, with a 3.5/5 user rating and a 6.33/10 expert rating that reflect its strong efficiency and comfort alongside some clear compromises.
The standout strength is Cost effectiveness at 8/10.
From the overview and expert evaluation, you get a vehicle that sits between a large sedan and an SUV, with an elevated ride, distinctive styling, and strong everyday comfort. It is also described as fuel-efficient and broadly appealing, especially if you want something easier to get in and out of than a traditional sedan.
The trade-offs are just as clear: performance is fairly pedestrian, cargo space is limited, and the interior materials can feel cheap. That means the Crown makes the most sense if you value efficiency, comfort, and style more than speed or luxury polish.
With 37.1% of listings marked as good or great deals, the market gives you a decent chance to find a well-priced example.
Is the 2023 Toyota Crown reliable?
The 2023 Toyota Crown is built around a hybrid setup that emphasizes efficiency and everyday ease, and the expert evaluation describes it as enjoyable to drive with a quiet cabin and comfortable ride.
The performance notes point to a standard hybrid powertrain that is tuned more for smoothness than excitement, while the cost-effectiveness commentary highlights that the standard hybrid is the economical choice and that there is not a critical drawback to sticking with it. That combination suggests a sensible ownership profile for shoppers who prioritize efficiency and comfort.
The Crown also includes a first scheduled maintenance visit on the house, which is a helpful ownership perk if you are comparing long-term running costs.
For used buyers, the main long-term risk is that a vehicle with this much technology and hybrid hardware can become more expensive to keep in top shape if it has been neglected, so service history matters.
What should I look for when buying a used 2023 Toyota Crown?
Accident-free inventory is solid at 87.3% — always verify the vehicle history report.
You should still check the report carefully, because a clean history is only the starting point. Prioritize a thorough inspection of the cabin, electronics, and hybrid-related systems, and pay close attention to whether the car’s condition matches its mileage and asking price.
Key things to evaluate:
- Trim level: The Crown’s base trim already includes a modern cabin, a digital instrument panel, and a large touchscreen, while higher trims add more upscale touches such as a two-tone exterior option on the Platinum and a more premium feel overall. The base trim does not get the extra equipment found higher up the range.
- Powertrain: The standard setup uses a 2.5-liter four-cylinder hybrid with on-demand AWD and 236 horsepower, while the Platinum can be equipped with the Hybrid Max powertrain that uses a turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder and produces 340 horsepower. The standard hybrid is the efficiency play, while the Hybrid Max is the stronger performer.
- Safety package: Standard equipment includes frontal and cross-traffic collision warning with automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert, automatic high beams, traffic-sign recognition, and a rear-seat-passenger reminder. The Platinum adds a semi-automated parallel parking system.
- Infotainment: Every trim gets a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, OTA software updates, and a wireless charging pad. Higher trims can upgrade to an 11-speaker JBL audio system, and digital key is standard on the Platinum and available on the Limited.
- Fuel efficiency: The base hybrid is estimated at 42 mpg city, 41 mpg highway, and 41 mpg combined, while the Hybrid Max is rated at 29 mpg city, 32 mpg highway, and 30 mpg combined.
Which 2023 Toyota Crown trim should I buy?
The 2023 Toyota Crown is offered in 3 trim levels: XLE, Limited, Platinum.
Here's the short version:
- XLE: This is the value-focused choice because it gives you the Crown’s standard hybrid efficiency, AWD, and core tech without pushing the price into luxury territory. If you want the best balance of cost and capability, this is the trim to start with.
- Limited: This trim is the middle ground if you want a more upscale experience and are willing to pay more for it. It makes sense if you want extra comfort and convenience features without jumping all the way to the top model.
- Platinum: This is the one to choose if you want the most power and the most equipment, including the available Hybrid Max powertrain, adaptive suspension, digital key, and the semi-automated parking system. It is the right pick if you want the most advanced Crown and are willing to pay for it.
The Platinum trim adds the semi-automated parallel parking system, while the Limited can get digital key as an option.
Is now a good time to buy a used 2023 Toyota Crown?
This looks like a moderate, selective buyer’s market, so you can shop carefully and still find worthwhile listings.
- Deal availability: 37.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Inventory: There are 377 listings available.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 1.35% compared with last year.
- Clean inventory: 87.3% of listings are accident-free.
If you find a listing below $32,933, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.
What is the 2023 Toyota Crown's resale value?
The current average of $34,027 sits slightly below last year's $34,494.
That tells you the Crown has softened a bit in the market, which can help you as a buyer today. For a future seller, it suggests you should expect some depreciation pressure rather than a strong upward price trend.
The good news is that the current pricing is still close to the year-round range, so a well-kept example should remain reasonably marketable. If you maintain the car well and keep mileage and condition in check, you should be able to position it competitively when it is time to sell.
Is the 2023 Toyota Crown safe?
The 2023 Toyota Crown has not yet received published crash test results from NHTSA or IIHS.
It earns a 6/10 safety score from our experts.
Standard safety equipment includes frontal and cross-traffic collision warning with automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert, automatic high beams, traffic-sign recognition, and a rear-seat-passenger reminder. The Platinum trim adds a semi-automated parallel parking system.
The expert drive notes also point out that the adaptive cruise control and lane-keep assist are well tuned, but some of the newer driver aids can feel intrusive. In particular, the Proactive Driving Assist features may be annoying for attentive drivers, even though many can be disabled.
Should I buy a 2023 Toyota Crown or consider a different year?
If you're weighing the 2023 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:
Choose the 2023 if:
- 37.1% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
- Accident-free inventory is solid at 87.3% — always verify the vehicle history report.
- Price trend: Prices have softened 1.35% compared with last year.
- The 2023 stands out for its unique blend of sedan comfort, SUV-like ride height, and strong fuel efficiency.
The bottom line: The 2023 is the right pick if you want the Crown’s distinctive formula now and you value efficiency, comfort, and style over outright performance. If you are especially price-sensitive, keep watching the market for a lower-mileage example near the bottom of the year-round range.
