How much does the 2024 Mazda CX-5 cost?

Prices have held steady compared to this time last year, signaling a stable and predictable market for this model year.

There are 8,238 listings available, which gives you a solid amount of inventory to compare before you buy.

Is the 2024 Mazda CX-5 a good car?

Yes — the 2024 Mazda CX-5 earns a 5/5 user rating and a 7.67/10 expert rating. The standout strength is Look and feel at 9/10.

The CX-5 fits well as an SUV for active urbanites, with stylish design, excellent outward visibility, a comfortable cabin, commendable quality, and a genuinely enjoyable driving character. It also brings premium interior materials and standard advanced safety features, which help it feel more upscale than many compact crossovers.

The trade-offs are clear: fuel economy is poor in Turbo models, cargo space is limited, and the technology feels outdated. Even so, the CX-5 remains a strong choice if you want everyday usability with a more driver-focused, premium feel.

38.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals, so there are still worthwhile opportunities in the market.

Is the 2024 Mazda CX-5 reliable?

Owners rate it 5/5, a strong signal of long-term satisfaction.

The CX-5’s long-running, steadily refined formula points to a mature and well-sorted vehicle rather than a risky redesign. Its premium feel, strong safety reputation, and polished driving manners all support the case for dependable day-to-day use.

The turbo powertrain is rewarding when you drive it smoothly, and the standard all-wheel-drive setup adds confidence in varied conditions. Mazda also backs the CX-5 with a broad set of standard safety systems, which reinforces its reputation as a well-engineered compact crossover.

If you buy used, the main long-term ownership risk is that the Turbo models can be costly to live with if fuel economy matters to you.

What should I look for when buying a used 2024 Mazda CX-5?

Accident-free inventory is excellent at 90% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.

You should still run a vehicle history report and prioritize a pre-purchase inspection, especially if you’re considering a higher-mileage example or a Turbo model. Focus on overall condition, tire wear, brake feel, cabin wear, and whether the technology and driver-assistance features work as expected.

Key things to evaluate:

• Trim level: The CX-5 lineup includes 2.5 S and 2.5 Turbo models, and the base 2.5 S is the value-oriented starting point. Higher trims add more upscale touches, while the Turbo models bring a more premium look and feel, but the base setup already includes the core safety equipment.
• Powertrain: The 2.5 S uses a 187-horsepower 2.5-liter four-cylinder, while the Turbo models use a turbocharged 2.5-liter four with 256 hp on premium gas or 227 hp on regular gas. If fuel economy matters most, the base engine is the better fit.
• Safety package: Every CX-5 includes adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane departure warning, and lane-keeping assist. Higher trims add adaptive headlights, traffic sign recognition, Traffic Jam Assist, and the top Turbo Signature gets a driver monitoring system, surround-view camera, front and rear parking sensors, and automatic reverse braking.
• Infotainment: The CX-5 uses a 10.25-inch display, and several trim levels add wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto plus wireless charging. Mazda also offers touchscreen operation for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto while driving.
• Fuel efficiency: The Turbo model returns 24 mpg in combined driving, and the test loop returned 22.9 mpg. If gas mileage is a priority, the base 2.5 S is the better choice.

Which 2024 Mazda CX-5 trim should I buy?

The 2024 Mazda CX-5 is offered in 8 trim levels: Select, Preferred, Carbon Edition, Premium, Premium Plus, Carbon, Premium, and Signature.

Here's the short version:

• Select: This is the entry point to the CX-5 lineup and makes the most sense if you want the core CX-5 experience without paying for extras you may not need. It gives you the standard safety foundation and the same basic upscale driving character, so it’s the best-value starting point for many shoppers.
• Preferred: This trim is the next step up if you want a little more comfort and convenience without jumping into the pricier upper trims. It suits buyers who want a more polished daily driver but still want to stay relatively close to the value end of the lineup.
• Carbon Edition: This is the style-focused choice if you want a more distinctive look and a richer presentation. It’s a good fit if appearance matters to you and you want the CX-5 to feel a bit more special.
• Premium: This trim is for you if you want a more upscale cabin and a stronger luxury feel without going all the way to the top. It’s a sensible middle ground for shoppers who care about refinement.
• Premium Plus: Choose this if you want the most fully equipped 2.5 S model and are willing to pay for the added comfort and convenience. It’s the trim to target if you want a near-luxury feel without stepping into the Turbo range.
• Carbon: This is the entry Turbo trim and makes sense if you want the stronger engine and a more premium personality. It’s the right pick if driving enjoyment matters more than fuel economy.
• Premium: This Turbo trim adds more upscale equipment on top of the stronger powertrain, making it a better fit if you want performance and comfort together.
• Signature: This is the top choice if you want the most complete CX-5 experience, including the highest-level safety and convenience features. It’s the one to buy if you want the most advanced version of the model.

Mazda reserves the driver monitoring system, surround-view camera, front and rear parking sensors, and automatic reverse braking for the CX-5 2.5 Turbo Signature.

Is now a good time to buy a used 2024 Mazda CX-5?

This is a moderate market, so you can shop selectively without expecting a deep buyer’s-market discount.

• Deal availability: 38.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Inventory: There are 8,238 listings available.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Clean inventory: 90.0% of listings are accident-free.

If you find a listing below $24,819, that's toward the low end of the year-round range and worth acting on quickly.

What is the 2024 Mazda CX-5's resale value?

The current average of $26,876 sits slightly above last year's $26,708.

That small increase suggests the CX-5 is holding value in a stable, predictable way rather than swinging sharply up or down. For a future seller, that usually means you’re less likely to face a sudden drop in market interest if you keep the vehicle in strong condition.

The model’s broad appeal helps too: it combines style, safety, and driving enjoyment in a way that keeps shoppers interested. A well-kept CX-5 should remain competitive with other compact crossovers, especially if it has desirable equipment and clean history.

Vehicles with strong owner satisfaction ratings, like this model year's 5/5, tend to retain buyer demand, which supports resale value over time.

Is the 2024 Mazda CX-5 safe?

The 2024 Mazda CX-5 earns five-star ratings across the board from NHTSA, except for a four-star rollover resistance rating.

It earns an 8/10 safety score from our experts.

Mazda equips every CX-5 with adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane departure warning, and lane-keeping assist. Higher trims add adaptive headlights, traffic sign recognition, and Traffic Jam Assist, while the top Turbo Signature gets a driver monitoring system, surround-view camera, front and rear parking sensors, and automatic reverse braking.

The standard systems work well, especially the lane departure and lane-keeping features, and the adaptive headlights are excellent on dark, unlit streets. One caveat is that the CX-5 no longer earns the IIHS Top Safety Pick designation it has achieved in the past.

Should I buy a 2024 Mazda CX-5 or consider a different year?

If you're weighing the 2024 against nearby model years, here's how to think about it:

Choose the 2024 if:

• 38.7% of listings are priced as good or great deals.
• Accident-free inventory is excellent at 90% — clean inventory, standard diligence applies.
• Price trend: Prices have held steady compared with last year.
• Owners rate it 5/5 — a strong satisfaction signal.
• It adds wireless charging and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto to several trims.

Consider the 2023 if:

• At $25,782, the 2023 costs less than the current year's $26,876 average.
• It’s a mostly carryover model with familiar styling and strong safety.

Consider the 2025 if:

• At $27,855, the 2025 costs more than the current year's $26,876 average.
• It keeps the sporty, upscale formula while emphasizing driving enjoyment.

The bottom line: If you want the best balance of price, availability, and the latest equipment, the 2024 is the primary pick. If you’re more price-sensitive, the 2023 is the smarter value play, especially if you find one in clean condition.
