The S2000 is sportier, but the 2000 Honda Prelude still isn't bad. The overview? It comes with a 2.2-liter 4-cylinder engine, that, when combined with a manual engine at 7000 RPMs, gives you 200 HP!!!
It also has dual overhead camshafts and Honda's special VTEC variable-valve-timing system. All in all, the 2000 Honda Prelude has great acceleration, steering, and handling and music lovers really enjoy the standard six-speaker audio system.
But really. It is outdated. And it's still kind of expensive for a six-year old car at around $9,500 to $12,000. Drivers complain about the noise factor - especially in the back and many say that the manual transmission is far superior to the automatic.

What owners say
"Overall, owners of the 2000 Honda Prelude love its fun-to-drive nature, impressive handling, and reliable performance. They appreciate the vehicle's acceleration, braking, and build quality, making it a favorite among sports compact enthusiasts. However, some drivers have noted a lack of rear seat space and limited power at lower RPMs. Fuel economy is viewed as decent but could be better, especially on premium fuel."
Great overall car. Its quick and the v-tec rocks. Holds up great as long as you keep up with normal maintenance. The inside is comfortable and is very user friendly. Honda parts are cheap if your into modding or if u mess something up. I get about 29 mpg with normal city and hwy driving but I can get 34 if I drive slow with the windows up. Fun to drive and lasts forever. Deff worth the money.

November 16, 2010By far one of the funnest cars to drive ever. Low center of gravity, wide frame and excellent handling makes you want to do 50 on every exit ramp. The 2.2L 4 cylinder DOHC VTEC under the hood is a lovely high revver redlining at 7400 RPM and pushing out 200HP (156 ft-lb tq.); which before the S2000 was definitely something worth noting in the 4-cylinder compact market. The exterior aesthetics are to this day beautiful and appealing with cars like the 1st generation Ford Fusion taking hints from it. The build is very strong and sturdy, making it a little heavier sports compact (about 3042 lbs in curb weight). However it maintains an acceptable 22-27 MPG...on Premium fuel. The only problem I ran into was rear seating space. It is truly recommended for small adults or children as it is very confined.
November 14, 2009Over all this car is pretty nice it never breaks and it looks like a very sharp car as well, its 200 hp 2.2 l vtec is pretty quick but you have to wait till 5000 rpms before its fast could have used a little more torque but its desent, reliable and looks good gas mileage could be better but better then truck gas mileage. small interior though
July 23, 2011Love my car- overall performance is great. Built solid, over 100k miles and it still runs like new and looks like it is a new car. price of ownership isn't very high, typical regualr maintenance. Love taking it out on a curvy road or somewhere I can really open her up and let her CAMS sing
August 23, 2010I bought this car in Aug of 06, and i absolutely love it. It was my affordable dream car back when i owned a saturn sl2 and still is. My prelude has been the best handling FWD car ive ever owned. Ive taken it on several backroads and raced it in autocross and even had it on a few tracks and it has only exhibited a minimal amount of understeer when i really push it. The car will stop on a dime, the brakes are great and really inspire confidence when in a difficult situation. I know the prelude was only given a 4 cyl. but the H22A4 accelerates just like a v6. I drove a 97 accord v6 not too long ago and it would out perform it easy. The build quality is solid, ive owned it for 2 years and havent had a problem with it. Its very easy to modify too, ive spent many summer afternoons outside tinkering w/ my car trying to squeeze out a little more performance. The car looks great, even when dirty. Sometimes i look outside and think "wow, i cant believe i own one of these". Even when im out in public, i will get comments on how the car looks. Every now and then someone will drive by and say "hey, nice car" or smile or even turn their head and follow the car. Gas mileage is subjective, based on how much of a lead foot you are but my gas mileage has been about 23-24 in the city and about 26-28 on the highway, although i did get 30mpg on a trip back home from college once. The car will use about a quart of oil between oil changes but again thats a subjective thing based on how much you hit vtec b/c vtec uses oil pressure to move the solenoid. As ive said, the car is a blast to drive. Inspires confidence in the corners, accelerates like a v6, stops great, looks great. Amazing car all around
September 7, 2008Only problem I have is the lack of power and rear or all wheel drive.
May 16, 2008Gas mileage is amazing(if you drive it correctly), handles awesome, has great pick up speed, reliable as hell, never had any problems with it, great shocks and delivers a smooth ride a 100% of the time.
January 4, 2008Great car, very fun to drive with its high reving v tec dohc engine. However the high reving does lead to a higher fuel consumption. SH makes this a fun car to drive hard into the corners as the ATTS pulls you through where a normal FF would be understeering.
