The Dodge Ram Pickup 1500 got some significant changes for 2006. The biggest one comes in the introduction of the Mega Cab trim, which adds another 20 inches to the cabin to maximize interior room. In addition, the Ram Pickup 1500 now has optional navigation and DVD system. With a stouter frame and 28 trims, the Dodge Ram Pickup 1500 has something solid for everyone.
This domestic pickup gives you your choice of 3 standard engines: a 3.7 L V6, a 4.7 L V8, and a 5.7 L V8. For the most part, expect this vehicle to tow up to around 9000 lbs. Gas mileage generally ranges from 14 mpg in the city to 18 on the highway. Trims come in 2 door, 3 seat or 4 door, 6 seat configurations.
Overall, the 2006 Dodge Ram Pickup 1500 plays its dual role quite well as a rugged workhorse and everyday transportation. This truck handles well, the Mega Cab has lots of room, and the V8s give you the extra oomph needed to get to where you need to go. On the other hand, ABS brakes don't come standard and gas mileage could use an increase. Despite its shortcomings, the Ram Pickup 1500 maintains its reputation as a solid all-purpose truck.

What owners say
"Overall, owners of the 2006 Dodge RAM 1500 appreciate its reliability, power, and spacious interior. Many drivers liked the truck's strong performance, especially the towing capacity and comfort during rides. However, the most frequent complaint is about its poor fuel economy, as many find it drinks gas at a high rate. Rust issues were also mentioned by some, along with concerns about certain engine problems related to the Hemi engine. Overall, it's considered a sturdy truck with a mixture of strengths and weaknesses."
21" rims, Viper engine, hood scoop, body kit, Sub between the seats, Bucket seats, Stick shift, and can never forget the START BUTTON!!
March 6, 2008This truck runs absolutely great. Had the oil changed on time or early. Has never been wrecked or in a flood. It does have some very minor dings. The windshield has not cracks or dings in it.
July 18, 2011I liked the look and style of vehicle. The equipment that it comes with is impressive.

December 1, 2020My third Ram in many years and I am loyal to the brand and will not buy any other. This particular truck has been very good to me and gets decent gas mileage and the ride is excellent. Tons of room in the cab and even enough room for my 120 lb dog in the back seat
August 20, 2014What I miss: Being up in the air. Big side view mirrors. 535lb/ft of torque, available from idle to 5500rpm (nuff said) Giving the gas pedal a little tap at a stoplight and having the whole body twist and shake. Downshift from 6th to 3rd @ 80mph = 50ft of rubber on the ground! What I don't miss: Average of 11.8mpg on Premium fuel. Wiping down those giant 22" wheels every week because of brake dust. Buying tires for those 22 inch wheels @ 300.00 a piece. Washing, waxing, and detailing all those acres of sheet metal Truck has a real harsh ride. I would call the S2000 'taught' but my truck was just mean if the road was even just a little rough. Nothing more fun than blowing the doors off of a mustang/camaro/corvette/import with a 5500lb truck with the aerodynamics of a 4x8 sheet of plywood!
August 3, 2009Easy to dive, doesnt seem huge like it might from the outside. Accelerates exactly as you want it to, plenty of breaking power, and handles like a dream (if you are pulling a trailor you wont evn notice it). It is built like a rock, no noticable squeeks or rattles unless you are off a paved or gravled road. Interior is a bit easy to stain but no biggie, and the exterior is awsome, all chromed out with rails and handles, huge tires come stock (20 inch rims) and a royal blue color. Gas is not the best but it does nice for its size, 13-15.5 in city (depending on how many lights i hit and how annoyed i am) and i've had up to 20 on higway but that is only about a quarter tank worth on higway (criusin at 65). The only not fun thing is i don't have 4wd and its stil so new to me i try to take it easy.
July 15, 2009My pick up is the nascar edition and is a dream to travel in. There are 2 adults, 2 teenage girls and two dogs and we drove for 2 12 hour days of driving on our holidays and never had a "not enough room issue" I get 17 to 25 miles to a gallon. The power is unreal, you never have to worry about passing or any thing when you drive this truck.
September 13, 2008i love this truck i will never buy a different make or model of truck the hemi makes the truck most desirable it gets about 20mpg highway and 15 city for a truck this size that's pretty good it has standard 20" wheels it makes it sit taller then most things on the road even some trucks with a lift kit witch is sweet
June 28, 2008Smooth ride on city roads. Nice power on the highway.
October 20, 2021This truck is the 4.9 v8 and feels just as powerful as the 5. + models with way better fuel economy. Very fast and responsive. Great work truck but also a great family truck.Seats six adults comfortably. This truck is a very reliable truck and a joy to drive
