Expert review
With the redesigned 2006 RAV4, Toyota simultaneously resolves complaints about the previous model while setting new standards for all compact crossover SUVs.
All-new for 2006, the Toyota RAV4 has a few things in common with the previous RAV4. For starters, it’s a Toyota. It has a standard 4-cylinder engine. And it has a side-hinged tailgate with a spare tire mounted to it. Otherwise, the new 2006 Toyota RAV4 is a completely different vehicle sold in standard, Sport, and Limited trim levels.

What owners say
"Overall, owners of the 2006 Toyota RAV4 appreciate its reliability, fuel economy, and spacious interior, making it a practical choice for families and active lifestyles. Many drivers enjoy the fun and enjoyable driving experience it offers. However, some owners have mentioned concerns about the vehicle's acceleration and transmission issues, especially since this model is known to have some bugs due to being the first of its kind."
Its a good overall car for trips, sporting activities, and transporting household goods. The car is very reliable, low maintenance and decent fuel economy. Fun car to drive handles well in all seasons. Over all very practical car to own and drive.
August 2, 2013The car handles well and gets great acceleration. It gets great gas mileage and uses regular gas. I drive a lot and it has been a pleasure to spend so much time in it. It was easy and fairly cheap to maintain.
June 27, 2013This is a fantastic vehicle overall but I recommend that if you purchase one that you buy a 2007 or newer. The 2006 was the first of it's kind and has a LOT of bugs (mainly bad coils). Also the transmission shifts strangely and soils it's fluid quickly. I expect a shorter than average lifespan for this tranny.

November 4, 2010handles okay for an suv, braking okay, accereration slow, build quality excellent, no repairs needed, no squeaks or rattles, good interior appearance, not bad looking on the outside, easy on gas, no maintenance required yet besides oil changes, its not a bad driving vehicle but its not a mustang
December 25, 2009I love the fuel economy and also that the car is very roomy and easy to get around. Very powerful too. The color is nice and has a lot of added features that come only with the limited trim like dual A/C.
January 25, 2015Safe, reliable, easy to park because of size!! It's an excellent car for a college student, elderly couple, young couple, or young couple with small children. It's easy to get into due to the fact that it isn't real low and/or you don't have to climb up into it!
January 7, 2013Unfortunately it's my mom's. It's got a V4 so acceleration isn't great. Decent handling. It's pretty fun to drive. Interior is very nice. 30mpg Hold's it value. It's a toyota so there aren't any major problems with it yet. Can't turn the auto 4WD/stability off.
June 20, 2010Traded up from a Subaru Legacy wagon, Rav4 gives more room especially in the 2nd row seating. Rear cargo area is really decent for ice chest, etc. I4 engine more than adequate power on freeway on ramps.
August 26, 2007i love this Toyota Rav4 it is amazing on gas & it's overall a fun & enjoyable car! I would reccommend this car to anybody who's looking to expand there family, or anyone in general who likes sitting high & cruising in SUV's!
