Expert review
The long-running Ford Escape remains competitive in a hotly-contested segment that has grown considerably in recent years.
The Ford Escape was developed in partnership with Mazda (known as the Tribute), which has given it a more athletic and livelier feel than it might have had with Ford’s touches alone. It’s one of the most fun and easy-to-drive small SUVs on the market; this car-like ride quality and handling that will appeal to buyers wanting more comfort from their utility vehicle.
The Escape, now six years into its current generation, is getting close to needing a major overhaul. As a result, Ford has only made minor changes to the 2007 model, which include a Silver Appearance Package, a shift in colors and options for the XLT Sport and Limited trims, and an increase in the powertrain warranty coverage to five years/60,000 miles.
The Ford Escape competes with the Kia Sportage, Honda CR-V, Mazda CX-7, and Toyota RAV4. It is targeted at car buyers that want a comfortable, car-like ride with the space and capability of a sport-utility.

What owners say
"Overall, drivers are generally pleased with the 2007 Ford Escape, particularly enjoying its spacious interior, good performance in various conditions, and respectable fuel economy. However, some have faced frustrating mechanical issues, which has impacted their experience negatively."
I think the ford escape is one the of nicest sport utility vehicles in its category. I have owned for just over a year and have had no major issues with it. It is excellet on the highway and the fuel mileage is great.
November 4, 2011Has no power whatsoever. Gets decent mileage. Seems high enough quality. Interior is well laid out and at least somewhat tolerable in aesthetics. Has had no problems to date. Good visibility. Larger inside than just about every other compact suv we looked at.
September 10, 2009The luxury model is gorgeous. Leather, heated seats, sunroof, sweet stereo, hauls all kinds of stuff. Great truck

April 12, 2008Though not a full size SUV, the Escape has a lot of room. This car fills all of our needs quite well. The 4 cylinder engine is quite adequate, even on the hills of Pennsylvania. It handles well and brakes quite well. It has not needed any major repairs, I wish I had waited 1 year to buy though as the desogn changed in 2008. More interior room in the '08. Gas milage and mainenance is respectable. It is fun to drive especially in the Winter snow!
August 27, 2010Traded in my compact car for an SUV for more room, without going huge. Love that it's sporty, but roomy enough to do carpool duty or haul equipment. Small and maneuverable for crowded city driving. Good pick-up with the overdrive, still reasonable on gas mileage.
May 8, 2008For the smaller end of the SUV class, the Escape is very roomy and has alot of storage space. 4WD is big plus for living in CT. The gas mileage is lower than previous car, but that was a given and it's still pretty good for its size.
February 27, 2010I was amazed with my ford escape, with the performance, gas milage. It is a fun car to drive not to big but not to small. this has alot of room for storage. I have a infant daughter and its great to tote the stroller. Very easy to get in and out of this vehicle.
January 16, 2009Great car for the wife and dogs to use small SUV but plenty of room. handles good, V6 needs a little more power. Seats fold down easy to open up the back for moving stuff. overall very nice little SUV to run around in. Seat warmers power button is in a poor location.
April 20, 2010The AWD has been awesome in the snow and ice on Mt. Hood.
June 30, 2008Love my escape but the mechanical problems have been very frustrating. Transmission went out at 63,000 miles, exhaust manifold was cracked at 63,000 miles, loose sway bar at 59,000 miles. Drives nicely and is comfortable. The sound system is pretty good as well.
